A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

I am very tempted! Especially after reading about the crowds... you made an excellent point. The GAC notwithstanding, heavy crowds would be stressful for Billy and may affect his mood and behavior.

Kathy

I was concerned about the Christmas crowd effect on Billy. It would affect my mood and behavior too :rotfl:. I can't tell you what to do for you and your family, but you know me, I would go for it :rolleyes1. You can always change it back to December 2011 IF you have to.

I LOVE reading about Billy's character interactions, it just makes me grin from ear to ear!

Thanks, Cynthia!

He is so sweet and innocent. Even though I'm pretty sure he knows the characters aren't "real", he always enjoys them so very much!

What do you think of my June/Christmas debate (above) ??

Kathy,
Your first, second and third thoughts are all good reasons to go in June.:thumbsup2 We have been going on a summer AND holiday trip for several years and I prefer summer. I like the summer swimming, water parks, wearing shorts, etc. Now at Christmas, the holiday atmosphere is incredible! sigh

I would definitely make the reservation for June with only you and Ed knowing about it. Let the kids think you are going in December so they won't be let down. Then as the time gets closer, you'll know what month will work out.

This is a difficult situation! (Just hope you don't plan for December, and Eddie announces in July that he can't go. Just messing with you!:rotfl: )

What a great character meet!

I think there's no harm in planning for June and then changing to Christmas if necessary. Like Tracy said, you should know in plenty of time if Eddie has to take that class! :thumbsup2

Kathy
Great character meets! Billy looked really happy! Are you for sure that Eddie will will come in Dec?? I think both times would be fun, but June is sooner....What about a solo trip??

What a great Meet and Greet!

There are so many advantages to the June trip. Is there anything you can do to get Eddie to agree?

I would try to plan for June and keep December as a backup plan. I don't think I would want to deal with those Christmas crowds.:scared1: I really just don't like crowds.:crowded:

Hi Kathy! I think I'm all caught up over here now. :thumbsup2 As for your June/December debate... I say go ahead and reserve the treehouse for June @ 11 months out. By January, your SS will surely know if he'll need the summer class (or when it ends - most colleges around here end the first summer term around 6/20 and then pick up for the second summer term around 7/5), and if he's really not going to be able to go in June, you can move the ressie to December. June will be much better than Christmas for Billy, I think, crowd-wise.

Hey, anything can happen when you're dealing with twenty-somethings, right? I think I would be upset if I planned for June and then we had to postpone until December, but I would be really   if I wait until December and he winds up pulling out after all! (And, it could happen!)

Like most folks that celebrate Christmas, I find that the weeks leading up to it are super-busy. Planning for June would be less stressful, I'm sure.

Oh and you are sooo right about keeping June a "secret"... at least from Billy. He would never be able to handle a disappointment like that!! Oh my!!

I posted some crowd pictures of our Christmas trip of 2009:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2359376

Wow! Those crowds are definitely something to think about... Thanks!

I may have read part of your report... I must go back and finish! :thumbsup2

Thanls for posting these, gives me hope for our Christmas trip-note to self-get to MK EARLY on Christmas Day :)

It's no wonder that Christmas Day gets so crowded... but the 7am opening (although difficult) would really help!

I just can't help but worry about Billy getting over-stimulated with all the crowds... even neuro-typical children could get overwhelmed! ::yes::

Would you go early and then leave, or plan to spend the day?

Aaaahhhh! BABY ALERT! BABY ALERT!! :woohoo: Any minute, now!!!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes Come on, Mr. Stork!!

Julie, there are two summer sessions he could do: 5/23 - 6/28 and 6/30 - 8/5

If our dates are 6/24 - 7/3, he could come with us for the tail-end of our trip if he does Summer Session #1 or for the first half of our trip if he does Summer Session #2. So, we still have a bit of wiggle room!

Speaking of "wiggle room"... I'll bet that baby doesn't have too much now!!

Kathy

Ah... solo would be great, but I simply couldn't justify the $$. Plus, I think I would be lonely without my family! :sad1:

I'm hoping for a Mom & Dad trip in June, 2012 for jordanyosh's PeepFest Meet!

Now, a couples trip would be really nice!

What a great Meet and Greet!

Yeah, the crowds are scary... and you're right, Nancy, they're just as scary for me!

Like I posted in an above reply, I could probably get Eddie to come for half the trip even if he did need to take a summer course. In fact, we would really like that because in 2008 we had him visit for Christmas and we didn't see him again until Thanksgiving of 2009. That was way too long...

(See first response, above, for summer session dates!)

It feels like I'm trying to choose between what Eddie wants/needs and what Billy wants/needs. I hate to say this, because I love Eddie dearly, but he's not the autistic one, KWIM?

* Tonight Billy came up to me and asked me to order the 2010 WDW Planning DVD! Hoo-Boy! Two years to him is an eternity....

Kathy

What a great update Kathy! I love the photos of you meeting the Up characters. We didn't see them in December and I was really bummed about that. Great planning so you could see them. :)

I like your reasons for going in June. I hope it pans out!

Your last update was great - TSM & Up! Sounds like it was a wonderful character meet & greet. :thumbsup2

As far as your June/December dilemma... I'd make the reservation for June because you can always change it. If you plan for December then decide to switch to June, you might miss out on a Tree House Villa. Just don't tell Billy about it until it's definite. And don't let yourself get too set on the June date until you now what's going on with DSS. And like you said, he could make part of your trip even if he does take a summer class.

We have the same issue with late June - school is currently scheduled to finish up on Monday, June 21st and summer session starts Monday, July 5th. We always try to take a long weekend up in the mountains during that time. I think family vacation time is much more important than one day of summer session - I wouldn't worry about that at all!

Kathy

Ya know, in my mind, you're debating between Eddie's *wants* and Billy's *needs* ... and I think you mentioned previously that even if you keep the December dates, there's a chance that Eddie will still not go. Needs always trump wants in my world. :)

All caught up again. I don't have any advice for you about the trip, but I'm anxiously awaiting hearing what you decide!

I'm very tempted to change my ticker... but I think I'll sleep on it. ;)

Planning with Eddie is hard... he is "immediate family," but not a minor child living in our home. There's a cerain element of uncertainty since he's old enough to make his own decisions.

Definitely would take your advice and wouldn't get Billy's heart set on June... I'd hate to have to change it! :sad2:

My gut is telling me the same, Michelle.

Okay Denise ... so you're Switzerland!

I feel the need to make a new ticker... but will hold off for now!

Love your Podcast Cruise Ticker, though!! ;)

We've not been to the Animation building since 2006, definately lots of things in there we want to see. Thank you for the details!

I love Billy's very logical explanation of why Dug had to quickly disappear and the Photopass pictures are great... I like how Kevin's peeking in.

I know someone who will adore the Snow White exhibit princess:... I hope its still there in Nov/Dec.

Uh-oh... I truly hope your peevishness doesn't involve people setting themselves up right in front of you.... soooo :headache: when that happens!

All will be soon be revealed... ;)

There are actually three separate meet and greet areas in that building... we only saw the Up characters. Sorcerer Mickey was there, as well as Frozone from the Incredibles (by himself) :confused3

The girls would rather play games than wait in the queue for Sorcerer Mickey! Sheesh!

We haven't seen the Animation attraction since...well, since 1999, probably.

Oh, what are your thoughts on Sci/Fi Dine-In? We made ADRs there, and I've heard lukewarm reviews about the food.

I liked Sci Fi... we've eaten there only once. The food is okay if you are going for burgers/sandwiches... we had no complaints. It's the atmosphere that is special. :)

You guys are having such a great time in HS. TSM is such a blast and I am glad you got to see the UP characters. Billy's comment about Dug was too cute! You got some nice shots. Curious to see what you think of the parade. Glad you are getting an opportunity to rest your feet!

This was the only day we had for the Studios, so we were making the most of it! I needed to rest in order to make it through to Fantasmic!

Billy's comment about Dug got a few giggles out of the folks waiting in the queue!

Kathy

I wish I could offer some words of advice on the switch or wait debate. I will watch with great interest, though, as you make that decision!:goodvibes
