Ferb, I know What We're Going to Do Today! - Updated 9/30

Great room!!! I got upgraded to a concierge in September 2008, but my room was at THE VERY END of that hallway. It was about a 10 minute walk from the lobby!!! I really can't complain, though, since it was a free upgrade & the rooms are so nice there. You really had a great view!

I can't even imagine if I had been at the end of the hallway. I always felt like I had walked quite far enough. It was so quiet and peaceful there, I never really minded not facing the water.

I was a few updates behind, but I am all caught up now! What a wonderful morning and early afternoon at the Grand Floridian! I could almost feel myself relaxing just reading about your massage, and of course, I am going to have to go find something sweet to nibble on after your description of your tea! :lovestruc

The Boardwalk room looks amazing! What a view with the Eiffel Tower in the distance!!! Not to mention the great touch of having a box of chocolates waiting for you! :cloud9:

What an awesome check-in experience!! Your conciege guy sounded so on top of things and eager to help you out. Just the way a Disney employee should be! :thumbsup2

Your room is so, so beautiful. The theming really doesn't appeal to me, but between you and Christine, I'm really growing to like this resort. Being so near WS, my hands-down favorite park, would really rock my world!!

It was a wonderful morning. I felt like I did all the little things I've been wanting to do for awhile now. I haven't had a non-park day at Disney in ages. I definitely need to do more.

The Epcot view was wonderful. You could even see the fireworks from the balcony. It was very calm and peaceful there. A very different feeling from Sports or even from my stays at POFQ.

He was the best. He remembered our names the entire time we were there, and if he was at the desk when we came in he'd chat with us and ask about our day. You could see why he had been picked to work at the concierge desk.

That's one of the things I love about the resorts at Disney. There really is a resort for everyone. I feel the same way about the Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary. I'm not really an outdoorsy woodsy type of person, and I'd probably love the Contemporary if it was anywhere else, but it's just not Disney to me. I do however love the location of both of them. Someday I'd love to try out at least the WL. The Boardwalk really appeals to me because it's a bit more urban, but with the beachy theme that I love if that makes any sense. The location was perfect. It really spoiled me. I loved being so close to both Epcot and the studios.

Ok, finally found time to catch up on your TR !

I'm enjoying your TR greatly and definitely want to to the GF tea next trip. As I'm usually solo, it's nice to know there are other soloers there too. :cloud9: Hopefully, I can get my BFF and goddaughter and her mom there too, but i won't hold my breath.

I'm not sure about the spa as I am not a spa type girl. I had a massage once and I wasn't quite feeling it. I did have a facial or two and that was nice. I'm glad you had a great time there. :thumbsup2

I did not visit the Poly when I was there in December for decorations since I knew they really didn't have any. But I did spend on afternoon/night there watching Wishes from the beach in my first trip in March 09. It was very nice. :wizard:

I'm sorry about your tension with your BFF. I can certainly understand it. Even as BFF, you still need "alone time" to enjoy your stay. I hope it all smoothed over by now?

KTTK tour is alot of walking but I was exhausted or anything. Though, I did have CRT ADR right after, so I did get to rest, sort of. Maybe he was people-watching?

Ooooh, the Boardwalk! This is a resort I would like to stay at with all of its activities nearby, especially since it is about my neck of the woods. Loved your pics of the place. and I almost have the exact my bathroom tub curtain! One day....

I stayed at POP recently, and I never had any problems with the busses. Thankfully! But I think I will skip the All Stars for any future value stays. :goodvibes

Looking fwd to more.... popcorn::

It's a great place to spend some solo time. The tea room especially just lent itself to some quiet time.

I wasn't sure I was going to like it myself, but I loved it. Even if I just go for a pedicure next trip, I want to get away for awhile and go.

Their decorations were definitely not as good as the other deluxe resorts. For me the best part was just wandering around looking at the natural beauty outside listening to the Hawaiian Christmas music.

I think that part of the problem is that I'm really not use to spending 24/7 with another person. I'm single and live alone. I used to going out spending some time with other people than going back to my quiet place for the rest of the night. At least when I travel with family I find it easier to tell them when I need some space, and I know how to do it without rumpling anyones feelings.

I loved it. Happily it lived up to all my lofty expectations for it. I loved that it was both peaceful and restful, yet was still in the middle of everything. Down deep I'll always be a city girl at heart. I love having activity going on close by. I'm just thrilled that they had such a good rate to make staying there a possibility.

I stayed at POP recently, and I never had any problems with the busses. Thankfully! But I think I will skip the All Stars for any future value stays. :goodvibes

Other than the buses on the way home I liked the All Stars. If I had a rental car I wouldn't think twice about staying there.

Love, love, love The Princess Breakfast Tea. I've seriously thought about purchasing it, but I think one of the reasons it tastes so good is because I'm drinking it in the Grand Floridian Tea Room. :thumbsup2

Just a heads up for future reference. I don't like mayo. At. All. And I really love the tea sandwiches. Any of the mayo type ones, are so light, you really wouldn't even realize it. But I can understand how that may be a turn off.

I've never stayed at the Boardwalk, and your room looks so pretty! I'm glad everything went relatively well, and my my, those chocolates!

Do they really sell it? All I was thinking about as I was drinking it was how much I wanted to bring it home with me. Soooo good!

Thanks for the heads up on this. Maybe next time I'll give it a try. As long as it's light I can handle it.

Chocolates never hurt!

They do, and if I remember correctly, it's ridiculously expensive. Of course, right? :lmao:

Honestly, I don't even notice it, and I can't stand gloppy mayo.

Truer words were ne'er spoken! :thumbsup2

Other than maybe the rain ponchos, there is something at Disney that's not ridiculously expensive? :lmao: I came to accept the fact, ages ago, that I have expensive taste most of the time.

Just the words gloppy mayo are enough to turn my stomach.

The grounds at the Boardwalk were great. The whole resort was very quiet and peaceful, with a small exception of the lobby, which was bustling with holiday activity. Even that wasn't really that bad either. We visited the Beach Club later in the week, and it was much louder over there. There seemed to be alot of people just hanging around relaxing and soaking in the atmosphere.

I loved all the courtyards around the grounds. The Boardwalk had all kinds of great, cozy little nooks both inside and out that made exploring just wonderful.

The holiday decorations were just beautiful. I loved the gingerbread gazebo, but even more than that I loved the heavy holiday garland draped over the fireplace.

The Bellvue Lounge. We never actually made it down there for a drink or a bite to eat since we had the concierge lounge.

After our exploring we headed down to the luna pool (crazy clown pool), which for some reason I didn't take any pictures of. :confused3 Finding our way to the pool was a bit of a challenge, until someone directed us to the right elevator. Navigation at the Boardwalk was definitely a bit wonky. When your in the lobby the regular resort is off to the hallway on the left, the DVC portion is off to the right. The major pool is on the DVC side. From where our room was, we'd have to go all the way back down to the lobby, cut across and then down another elevator to get to the pool. In your mind you want to just go directly over on the floor your on, but you can't. Slightly inconvenient. It would have been a better design to have the main pool located a bit more centrally so you could access it from either side of the resort. But, hey, Disney didn't ask me when they were designing it. ;)

I had been hoping to hit the pool this afternoon, but the weather was changing and getting kind of cold out again. Not quite pool weather, but fine for grabbing a drink at the pool bar and doing some people watching.

I wanted to try a pina colava after seeing them on TK and Tink's trip report. Delicious, and dangerous. You could barely taste the alcohol in them, but you could feel it when you went to stand up. I have to say I was a bit surprised by the drinks I had on this trip. They were all awfull potent. Disney may cut corners, but no one is going to accuse them of watering down the drinks.

We returned to the room to get ready to head out for the Hoop Dee Doo Review to find our beds had already been turned down. I loved that in keeping with the hotel theme they left salt water taffy instead of chocolates. The card had a short little poem about the moon on it. Every night we were there they left us a new poem card.

Cute! I loved the turn down service. Just a small little touch, but I loved it.

ONe of the things I'm most looking forward to is exploring the resorts I'm staying in. All the little hidden gems and nooks and crannies.

Only Disney would think to stay in theme and use salt water taffies for the turn down service!! Gotta love that! :thumbsup2

I allways had a soft spot for the BW and your pictures are really doing their part in convincing me that I must stay there! :thumbsup2

The Boardwalk is so pretty- especially during the holiday season. That turn down service looks awesome!

The nooks and crannies are the best parts, even on the values and mods. I love how all the resorts have them, no matter how much money you spend. One of the best things about this trip, was the time I allowed for exploring.

It was lovely, especially with all the holiday decorations up. I felt so at home there. It was really a perfect match for me.

I definitely want to have the turn down service on my Oct. trip too. I think you just need to ask for it if your not staying concierge, but it's no charge at the deluxes.

Potent is definitely one of the words I would use to describe the Pina CoLava! :thumbsup2 But soooo yummy. And very piratey, what with the rum and all.

I love the picture of the gingerbread gazebo! I didn't get to see that, but it reminds me of the carousel at the Beach Club. What wonderful details! :goodvibes

Potent is the key. I remembered how much you had liked them, and just had to try it. It was delicious!:)

I loved that the gazebo had Donald in it. I thought it was adorable, but the BC really did have the best decorations. I have pics of those coming later in the report.

I got changed out of my sundress and into some jeans before heading over to Fort Wilderness for the Hoop Dee Doo Review. The night was getting colder and I didn't want to be freezing all night. Changed and ready to go we headed down to the bus stop and caught a bus over to the Magic Kingdom, and from there caught a boat over to Fort Wilderness. As usual we were running a bit late so we really didn't have the time to explore anything once we got there.

Once we arrived at Pioneer Hall we checked in with a CM wandering around with a clipboard and were directed to a line where they took a photographer of us with a big sign that said something about pioneer hall. Later during dinner they came around trying to sell us the photos for some really crazy price. Ours was horrible so we passed on it. After taking our picture we were directed to a specific line depending on where our seats were located.

We had bought the cheapest tier 3 seats. I'd seen the show back in 1997 from those seats and they had been fine so I had no qualms about booking them again. Unfortunately they've changed the seating setup in tier 3 and I wasn't happy at all about how they were now. The tier 3 seats are the ones on the right and left of the upper level balcony. Previously, the tables were placed around the edge so that you could sit and talk to your table mates, and then just turn your seat a bit to watch the show.

Now, all the seating was arranged in long rows facing the outer wall with your back to the stage. If you were with a group of people, you could no longer sit across from each other and chat because your all sitting in one long row. It's very awkward. I was sitting next to a family with two kids who didn't want to be there at all. They cried and carried on through most of the show. The girl who was sitting next to me had a cold and was coughing and sneezing all over the place without covering her mouth. I was convinced that the respiratory infection I had been battling before I left for vacation was going to be back the next day. It might have been slightly better if at least the tables faced the show, but they face the wall to make it easier for the wait staff to serve the food. To watch the show you had to physically move your chair/stool because the stools didn't swivel. :headache: In addition my chair had a large beam directly in the path of the stage making it difficult to see. I couldn't lean to far to my right, or I'd be blocking the sneezing little girl, and if I went to the left I'd block my friend's view.

It was obvious that the change had been made so they could cram more seating into the theater, but it really made for an uncomfortable viewing experience. I wouldn't recommend a tier 3 seat to anyone any longer. The set up of the tables was horrible, and if I had really young kids I wouldn't have felt comfortable with them sitting on the stools even if they did have backs. Tiers 1 and 2 were fine. Tier 1 is the lower level right in front of the stage, and tier 2 is the sides of the lower level and the center area of the second level. Both tiers 1 and 2 have normal tables and not the weird row seating they have on tier 3. The upper level of tier 2 would probably be my choice if I had to do it again. The upper level gives you a wonderful view.

The show however was still fantastic. Sadly, I forgot to take any pictures. The jokes are a bit corny, but there is something in the show for everyone. There is something I like about a show everyone can enjoy. They actually had added in a few Christmas songs, and each performance gets tweaked a bit depending on the audience. I've seen it about 4 times or so, and I still love it. It never gets old to me - lots of fun for everyone. The food wasn't bad either. Since it was included in the price I had beer with my meal. Everything is served family style, for you and your party. We were given a big pan of cornbread with fresh butter, salad, bbq ribs and fried chicken, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Nothing fancy, but really tasty. I really loved the cornbread, and we had to get seconds on our chicken and salad. Everything is served in old-fashioned cast iron style pails.

After the show they offer dedicated busses back to the resorts, but I had no clue where to go (wasn't really listening) so we just headed back to the boat dock. We were in no rush. It ended up being a good decision. When we were nearly there we had to come to a stop in the middle of the lake so the water parade floats could cross in front of us and get docked for the night. (The parade was over unfortunately, all the floats were dark). The fireworks were just starting though, so we got to watch them from the boat. It was a wonderful view, and we were able to pick up a little of the music coming out of the park.

The original plan had been to head over to Jellyrolls when we got back, but my friend was nearly falling asleep on the boat. Since we wanted to be at rope drop for TSM in the morning we chose to just call it a night and get some rest instead. Even in Disney a little sleep is necessary. ;) (Occasionally).

When we got back to the room we went over the plan for the next day. My BFF asked where we were eating dinner the next day. When I told her the restaurant in Mexico, she gave me a funny look and told be that she didn't really like that place when we ate there the last time. My wonderfully relaxing, stress free day was erroding quickly. The waiting around comment had been the first ding in my day, the seating issues at dinner had compounded it, and this news was nearly enough to make me lose it.

I don’t know how many times I had asked my BFF about where she wanted to eat on this trip and where she didn't. I know that I had asked if there was any place we had eaten on our first trip that she didn't like. I had emailed her copies of all the menus for the places I had made ADRS for before hand and asked for her thoughts. I had never heard one word in response to any of that. Until now.

That night, I smiled and told her I'd talk to the concierge in the morning and see if he could change us to another restaurant. It's my personality, keep the peace and move on. I'll admit now, far away from the event that I was annoyed. Really, really annoyed. I was annoyed that after all the work I had done on this trip, all the changes I had made from my original solo plan to make sure my friend had a great birthday celebration trip, she couldn't even have put enough interest into the planning to read the few menus I had sent her. We've been friends for long enough that I knew she had no interest in planning, and accepted that, but honestly is it that difficult to read a menu and tell me if you can find things on there that you like? Was I really asking that for that much? :confused3

For me it was almost a turning point in the trip. I had a good time after this point for the most part, but things started grating on me much faster. Normally that's not like me at all. I'm usually very true to my Libra sign. I feel the need to keep the peace at any cost. The thought alone of conflict is enough to turn my stomach into a mess of knots, and I'll do anything to avoid confrontation. I'm the person who caves in on her own wishes and desires to make everyone else happy. Usually I do that and just let it go, but I couldn't on this trip. I don't know if I was just more irritated than I usually am, or if it's old age starting to set in, but it ate away at me for the rest of the trip. I felt horrible for feeling the way I did as the week wore on, but felt helpless to stop it.

I'm EXACTLY the same way...and a Libra, too!!!! That comment about the restaurant would have gotten to me, too. I know what you mean about not speaking up about what you want to do just to make everyone else happy. That's SO funny that we do the same thing! For that reason in particular, I wanted to be sure that I get enough time alone in October to do everything I want to do! I seriously can't wait. :yay:
