Ok, we are buying into BLT. My wife really loves the polynesian. She is worried that we may not like BLT as much. I know it is not the best use of points to use them at the Poly but doing the numbers its still less than paying for them outright. Does anyone use their DVC points on normal Disney resorts?

If thats the case, would you sell your BLT points or keep them and use them on Poly etc?

There is a $ 95 fee to use your points at a non-DVC resort. Have you ever stayed at the Contemporary? The atmospheres are completely different at the two resorts. I have stayed at both (many years ago), and I really preferred the CR. The kids also liked CR better when they were teens.

I suggest trying out some other resorts as well... BCV has a great atmosphere and location. You can always wish, as many do... that there may someday be Poly Villias!

how did you do the numbers? it costs a minimum of 41 pts per night (plus the $95 fee mentioned) to stay in a hotel room at the poly on DVC pts.

you can get a 2BR lake view villa at the BLT for 40 pts per night...or you could rent those 41 pts for roughly $10 per pt and have $410 to pay for the poly (the same room on cash with no discount starts at $365 - and right now cash discounts abound).

also worth noting that the trade costs for the poly are not fixed at all and can increase over time.

link to point chart for information.

When we purchased BLT, we broke it out into (8) contracts (50, 50, 30, 30, 25, 25, 25, 25) with every intention of selling some of those contracts to help pay for DVC Poly if/when it is developed.

we also loved poly, but bought dvc and wish we had done it years before we did. we hop on the monorail and go to the poly to eat and walk down to get on the boat for the mk. you still get that beautiful feeling of the tropics.:goodvibes

dvc may be at poly someday and you can buy some pts. there too.:woohoo:

Pre-DVC, DH and I were also Poly snobs. Post-DVC, while we still love the Poly and know that it will always hold a place in our hearts for housing some great Disney vacations, BLT is our home and I truly do love most every aspect of it (if only Disney could find a way to pump into BLT the smell at the Poly - - it's like olfactory crack in there!).

To the OP, you also have to remember that if DVC ever builds a resort at the Poly, all DVC owners will have booking rights there at the 7 month mark so it may not be necessary to run and sell all of your BLT points just to stay at the Poly. But, if you are talking about using your BLT points for a general stay at the Poly, that really is not a good way to use your points. Sure, once in a while would work, but if you want to buy into DVC just to use your points at the Poly every trip, you are throwing money down the drain. Either way, good luck! :goodvibes

There is no $95 fee for booking resorts in the "Disney Collection" using DVC points.

We have done it twice, and probably will in the future.

awesome for you but it's tricky to flatly promise a newbie that they won't be charged either when it's stated in the trading rules...

I agree. We've done it a couple times over the past few years and were definitely charged each time.

have you even tried BLT?

if you want a hotel room at Polyn, well at least try for 1-bedroom at BLT.

you might be surprised. to me BLT is not like CR. CR is fast, loud, and people are everywhere - like BWV. but BLT is different. It has people but most of the rooms are quiet. the views are pretty good. just remember to ask for higher - the higher the better view.

now sometimes you will heard an excited child or two in the hallway. but that is generally it. once they get in their rooms you can't heard them.

so try BLT before you decide if you like it or not.

now for years loved Polyn, then brought at OKW. for years mother only wanted to stay at the Polyn. so one year we did. (this was way back - no $95 charge and the points were lower).

we got an excellent room - Tahiti lagoon view. the entire time and I mean the entire time - Mother complainted - if we were at OKW then we could....

fill in the words. She missed OKW much more than the Poly.

especially during the meals - she did not like going offsite (I am cheap) and even the few meals we had at the Polyn. She missed OKW and eating what I fixed. plus in the middle of night - she likes her snacks.

good luck!

remember the Polyn is just a monrail ride away from BLT. so you can definitely go visit - anytime you want too.

at the Polyn once you got off the monrail - some of those lodges were a good walk. with BLT - once you get off the monrail - go down the escaltor (or elevator) - take a short walk thru the stores area - you are on the skywalk that connects blt. none of the rooms are far away. the south side elevator is right there and it is not far to the north side elevator.

If you want to stay at the poly, rent the points and pay cash for the poly room. However, you'll maximize your value staying at a DVC resort. BLT is a nice resort... I prefer Boardwalk and Beach Club, but I would stay at any of them. I too wish for a Poly DVC.

have you done it recently, I think it was about two years ago that they began charging the fee....

We did this last for a stay in early 2009 (Feb) which was booked in 2008 (may or june maybe). Maybe this was prior to the change? When was the change implemented?
