DVC & Disney Visa

So, was thinking of adding on points and putting the down payment on my Disney CC. I called the credit card company since I wanted to see if the 0 interest was paid off after the interest. Well, she told us that DVC down payments don't count to the 0 interest. I thought it did from when I originally purchased.

Update: Looks like we spoke to someone that doesnt know anything. I pulled up the card perks, still shows that.

We added on last fall.. our DVC guide told me the 0% applies to DVC Down Payments. We pay our MF's and for our AP's with the card to build rewards.

We added on last fall and was able to put it on our Disney Visa with 0% for 6 months. We will need to pay it off next month to avoid finance charges.

We have used one of our Disnay Visa Accounts for our DVC purchases at 0% a number of times, but be careful! The card company, although straight forward to them, uses what most would think is creative accounting when it comes to what you are paying off in your monthly payments. Say you have put your DVC payment on your card, along with other charges. Typically we pay off all monthly charges that normally would have a finance charge if not paid, but would leave the DVC on for the 6 mo. 0%. Watch out! Payments go first to the 0% balance! The next month statement will show finance charges on what you thought you paid off! :scared1:

To prevent any problems, we have a separate card for DVC purchases only. Payments go to our "monthly" card and get credited as paid in full. Our DVC card gets payments and all ends as we THOUGH it should have the first go around.

Yes, you can. I put the entire cost of my add ons last year (130 points and 50 points) on my Disney Visa's (I have two).

I got 6 months, 0% interest on the entire purchase. I know it says $5000 limit, but I got lucky and the entire amount was interest free.

The key, however, is that you can't make your payment of your other charges until AFTER your statement closing date. If you send in a payment before the statement closes, they will apply it to the DVC purchase first.

Once the statement closes, then your payment will go to the purchases first and DVC last. That is what we did. Once I got my bill, I paid the full amount of that months charges, and then 1/6 of my DVC balance. Over the course of 10 months (I purchased my add ons 2 months apart), I never paid one cent in interest.

And, with the new credit card laws that were just passed, I believe they must use the money you send to pay down balances at a higher rate than a lower one.

Good luck!!!

For what it's worth, I have never had this problem. We routinely have an item that qualifies for 0% (usually a Disney cruise) which we pay off at the end of the 6 month period. We've *never* had a problem with payments being assessed first against the 0% amount - they always go toward what we've charged for the month. We use our Disney Visa like a debit card and pay off our monthly charges every month, less whatever amount that qualifies for the 0% for 6 months. :thumbsup2
