Why Would Someone Want Turndown Service?

Does anybody use this service? I still get annoyed everytime the cleaning staff knocks on the door to see if I want the covers pulled down and a chocolate. They should leave the bed that way when they clean the room, that way they wouldn't have to come back again later. I think I can do that myself, go away.

Some folks enjoy returning to their room after a 16 mile trek in the parks during the day to find this as a nice extra.

YMMV

If I were ever to stay concierge, yes, I'd use it...after all, it is part of the concierge experience. It isn't something I'd want in a non-concierge location...I like not having housekeeping everyday.

Some people enjoy getting extra pampering and attention. However, I prefer to do things for myself. I generally don't use bell services to carry my bags, it is not the $, I would rather just do it myself. I have a friend who moved to a low income country simply to have a full time maid and gardener, he loves all the attention. I would hate having people living with me. Different strokes for different folks.

The limited mousekeeping with DVC works great for me while others are bothered by it.

When we stay CL, we love the turndown service. So nice to come back and find your bed turned down, chocolates, usually the lights on low. Also when you get turndown service, they replace your towels as well.

The reason why it's not done in the morning/early afternoon is because people often go back to their rooms in the afternoon. Turndown is something for bedtime. So if it's there when people come back for a nap or change clothes etc before their evening activities, then when they get back for bedtime, there's nothing special for that time.

When we've stayed at places with this (like GCH when they still allowed booking on points), we just tried hard to NOT be in the room when they did it.

We find it nice not having Mousekeeping everyday... especially with our DD.(nearly 2 years old) Not having a knock at the door while she's napping is a plus!

so for DVC people, does that mean you have full housekeeping every day? I would think you would have to make the bed for housekeeping to turn it down. How does it all work exactly?

Maybe you should put out the Do Not Disturb sign. It is part of the concierge package so it is understandable that Mousekeeping would think you would want it.

A "normal" DVC stay on points you do not get daily housekeeping nor turndown service. A points stay gets you attention on every 4 days depending on the lenght of your stay it maybe a "full cleaning" or "trash & towel" service. Turndown is not a normal service on a points stay. DVC members may elect to hire daily housekeeping, but that also does not normally include turndown.

Simply put, it's a enjoyable luxury, like heated seats in a car. Some people enjoy the attention others feel its a waste.

I believe if you stay at AKV-club level, you get daily housekeeping & turndown service (not sure about that though).

I believe you're correct - as well as taking a cat 3 with points on DCL, you get the concerige services.

(that's why I used the word "normal" :rotfl2: )

Yes, AKV concierge includes full daily maid service and turndown. Turndown is part of what many just expect as part of the experience when they have concierge and really has nothing to do with whether you really want it, you just like because hey, that is just part of the extra pampering I expected when I decided to pay for this.

If you don't want turndown at AKL club level or housekeeping service at any WDW resort just call and ask that they not service the room. Save yourself the annoyance. :rotfl:

I love turndown. It is so pleasant to come back to the room after dinner to find the drapes drawn, lights low and bed turned down so neatly.

I've used turndown when staying in a DVC unit on cash. It's nice to have them set up the pull out bed on the first night, and those chocolates.. mmm.

Why would you want your bed turned down all day? A few minutes for them to set up any sofa bed, turn down the covers, put chocolates and usually some other treat on your pillow -- what is there there to complain about? :confused3

We stayed concierge in a studio at AKV and it would have been a PITA to make up the sofa bed every night. We also enjoyed the unique cards they left on the pillows, along with the wonderful chocolates! :goodvibes

Maybe because I was trying to have a nap on the couch, nearly impossible at Jambo concierge with all the constant drumming in the lobby. We don't use the sofa bed, so its not an issue - but I see how someone would like that set up, if its a hassle for someone. I just don't want anyone bothering me. Yeah, next time I'll hang the sign on the door, good idea.

The really nice thing about hotel turn down service is that it usually also includes clean towels in the bathrooms. Nice to have after getting back to the room in the evening when you need a shower after having used your towels during the day. Turn down service is more than just turning down of the beds.

HBC

I agree with HBC -- getting fresh dry towels was nice particularly as our Concierge stay was in a studio. I don't need someone to turn down the bed (although I did appreciate the chocolates!) but fresh towels were appreciated.
