Disney Imagineering Books

We've slowly been trying to purchase books that discuss the construction and Imagineering of all Disney theme parks.

Are there any good books for Euro Disney or Japan?

Are there any books that you would consider above the rest?

I don't have any suggestions, but I would love to hear what books you have already gotten that you really enjoyed. That would make for fun reading I am sure!

WE have Disney Mountains, which was the first one we got. Actualy DS got it because he loved Everest so much he wanted to know everything about it, it was his souvenir from a trip to DW Last October.

and one I have on the way had on the way was Walt Disney Imagineering, but the seller was fraudulant. If you have this book and find you dont need it anymore LMK!!!

So I dont have a whole lot yet, but they are very good. We have other books from DW and DL but they are more to do with Photos and stuff.

That's a good one. The same author has books on The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean -- and has another book coming on the Lucasfilm tie-in rides and shows such as Star Tours and the various Indiana Jones attractions. Not sure if Captain EO will be included, but it very well might.

Is it hard to find these days? That's an excellent book; probably the best I've read on Imagineering.

I'm waiting for the updated version to come out, I think its supposed to be released in May, I'll have to check.

The other book was not hard to find, but I have a budget! It was a first printing New. It was xmas time when I bought it an Mousedjunkies from the same seller. I didnt know until January that they never got shipped. It was a long ebay and paypal nightmare that I am beginning to realise is the norm for their customer service.

According to Amazon, there is a sequel coming out to Walt Disney Imagineering. The description says the Imagineers serve up another dose of magic with an even closer look at who they are, what they do, and how they do it. It says it will be released on May 18th. I already have it in my cart.

I've just ordered the Imagineering Field Guide series, although I have to wait until the summer for Hollywood Studios. I've wanted them for a long time though, has anybody read them? Are they any good?

I've read them. They are pretty good. They aren't really books you "read", they are a compliation of lots of little tidbits of information and anecdotes. I enjoyed them and will be getting the Stuios one when it comes out.

Not exactly Imagineering, but I highly recommend the book "The Pixar Touch, the Making of a Company." It's an extremely interesting look at the beginnings of Pixar and it's dealings with Disney. I thought it was fascinating.

There's a very good book for DisneylandParis. It's called Disneyland Paris: Sketch to Reality. It's by Alain Littaye and Didier Ghez.

There are two versions a french language one and a English language one.

They sell them in the Park stores in DLParis (cost is prob around $50-75). I'm sure you could pick them up online (i noticed amazon (US) only has the french version from a marketplace seller and its $2500)

Ah that's great to hear. I prefer ones with small bits of information which I can glance at. I see a new edition of the Epcot one is due out next month, so I'm just going to get MK and AK for now, and get the updated Epcot and Studios later

I also might have a look at the French language Paris ones. I study French at university and love Disney - what a great combination for a book!

Thats why I never bought those books. I want books that I can take my time and read, we can only get to the parks once or twice a year and I dont want to carry around more than my Hidden Mickeys book! lol!

Not so much Imagineering, but still a great read is Spinning Disney's World:Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press Agent by Charles Ridgway. He covered the opening of DL for a newspaper, started working for Disney in the 1960s, and kept on going. It's a really fascinating book from a different perspective.

Another Disney book that is interesting but *much* harder to read is Vinyl Leaves....Forget the author's last name, it was written in the early 1990s, so a little out of date. It is more of a social/cultural/anthropological analysis of WDW--I was an American Studies major in college, and that was a good excuse to read the book, LOL.

I forgot to add, I liked reality land too.

It's only just dawned on me that my university library will have a lot of the Disney company books. A quick search of the catalogue tells me that they have around 30 books about the Company. I know what I'll be spending the next few weeks doing!

Just did a quick search on my local library system, and they only have a few of the books listed. ILL it is for me, and that can take forever, depending on how far it comes from....But this is fun, I love hearing about new-to-me Disney books.

Make sure you check out Designing Disney by John Hench. He was a such a force behind some of the best loved Disney attractions and theming. He explains how so many aspects combine to create the Disney mood- color, music, atmosphere, costumes, etc. He also spends some time discussing how important the guests are to the entire process of making magic.
