Goofy Proposes, Fi Falls for Sleeping Beauty & we Celebrate our Engagement NEW 6/18!

Oh! I'm so sorry your feet were bothering you...that can ruin the entire trip right there. Last year I bought new croc flip flops (never wore crocs before this) so comfortable but the little bumps rubbed a blister on both feet by the toe area

Great pics on the safari, I love AK! but I enjoy the animals and the shows...have not tried PW, yet and EE too afraid...but, Danny can't wait (he missed it last year due to the rain)...
can't wait to hear about the mileage you logged and what you guys did for a free evening

You guys got really lucky with wait times at AK-- safari walk on at 11? Impressive! (Especially for AK, when its day is half over at 11  Biggest park in Disney and some how can't fill it with enough stuff to stay open past 5 pm??)

I think our "best" day we did like 12 miles one day (this of course was pre-Aisling). I should do it in May and see what we do now. It's so funny how the fun of Disney makes you forget how much you are going. If someone asked me to walk 12 miles right now, I'd laugh at them :rotfl:

That is so true! While you're there in the parks it doesn't really seem like you've walked so far. But at home? I am not a walker. I'd rather spend an hour on the eliptical than 15 minutes on the treadmill!

It was nice that you are able to take a break from all of the walking. The last time we went I had blisters on my feet from going comando:eek:. Looking forward to your next update - with no plans.

I get blisters every.single.time! ugh! I have horrible feet for walking (I'm going to talk about it in my next update) so for me it seems like they're unpreventable. :guilty:

Subscribing! Love it so far!

:welcome: Thank you so much for reading along!

Cute pictures with the ant. I have never rode EE or Dinosaur. I usta love roller coster but have gotten more chicken as I grow older. Maybe one day I will try them.

Oooohhh, if you used to like roller coasters you must try EE! It's really not that bad - just enough thrill to be fun but not too much. :thumbsup2 And Dinosaur isn't bad either - its more so just really jerky.

Sorry about Dinosaur but at least EE was fun. I'm still scared of riding that thing more than once. We'll have to see how it goes when we get there! I'm glad the Safari went great! I hope this time we get to go on it! I know I live really close to the San Diego Zoo but this is totally different!

I can't wait to eat at the Tusker House now!!!

We normally ride EE a lot since its FI's favorite "big thrill" but its the only one I will go on with him (I won't do ToT or RnRC). And even though I love it by the last ride I'm normally like, "ok, I've had enough now" :rotfl:

The safari is just amazing! It's so different from the zoo in my opinion because - if you're lucky - you get so close to the animals. :cloud9:

You look so happy in those pictures, I'd never guess your feet were bothering you! (Though maybe you are happy because you are sitting down? haha!)

I can relate to your thoughts on AK. Though each time I visit, I start to like it more and more. Now I really enjoy my time there. Though we do tend to spend less time there than any of the other parks.

A free evening in WDW? that is so exciting, can't wait to see where you end up!

Well I'm glad my pain didn't show through in my pictures! :lmao: We just love AK but yeah, there isn't a whole lot to do (other than walking, of course :rotfl2:)

I have SO much trouble with my feet (I'll detail in my next update) I end up getting blisters every time, no matter what shoe I wear. :sad2:

I've got to start watching some of the shows at the parks - I know I would love them and it would definitely give me some relief from all of the walking. You should try EE! It's so much fun :thumbsup2

We have been SO lucky with the waits on all of our trips that we've taken together. :thumbsup2 AK really does need some more attractions, doesn't it? Especially on this trip when we couldn't even ride Kali Rapids since it was so cold!

Just read the entire thread. Congrats on your engagement!
I am glad to hear that the Chef's Favorites is available on the DDP, thats what I was wanting to get. Looking forward to hearing more!

How did I get 2 1/2 pages behind? Oh, well, I am caught up now...sounds like you had a good day at AK. :)

Can't wait to hear exactly how many miles it came out to be.......popcorn::

Your story about Goofy proposing to you reminds me about mine and my now fiance's first trip to Disney. We were getting our picture taken with Goofy at AK and Goofy takes my left hand and looks to see if there was a ring on my finger. When he saw there wasn't one he looked over at my boyfriend and then started to walk away with me. Ever since then my boyfirend has been "mad" at Goofy and doesn't like having to get him picture taken with him :).

I was so happy about that Chef's Favorites as well! It was a great way to try the cheese soup!

I know what you mean, Michelle! I've been so busy lately I haven't had much time to get on here. I feel like I'm so behind! Hopefully I'll have time to post the update with the miles later tonight!

Haha! What a funny story! :lmao: I think Goofy is the best for character interaction! :thumbsup2

DAY 3 – Pt. 3

After returning home to AKL I had one thing on my mind – relaxation! And that’s exactly what we did!

As I mentioned in my previous post, the walking was starting to take a toll on me and no wonder…upon returning to the resort my Pedometer reading was…

32 MILES!

In 2.5 days at Disney! Here’s how the walking broke down:
Our first day (at the MK) we walked a total of 5 measly miles.
Our second day (at Epcot) is where we really raked up the miles. We walked a total of 18 this day!
Finally, at AK we walked 9 miles. Keep in mind we left AK around 2:00 so that reading wasn’t even for a full day.
Also, I will note that my reading later in the evening (after our evening without plans) was 37 miles!

So 37 miles in 3 days…I was a teensytiny bit sore (more like A LOT)! This probably sounds like an excuse but, I have really flat feet – I’m talking zero arch, so, my feet don’t hold up well after 37 miles! In fact, my feet are so flat that I can’t wear flip-flops! Casually, like out to dinner where I know I won’t be walking, sure – but anything that requires some motion and flip-flops are out for me. I actually fare better in heels, believe it or not!

So after a lovely afternoon of recuperation at the resort, we were finally ready to head out for the evening!

This night we did not have a dinner ARD so our plan was to spend the evening at…

Downtown Disney! I loved last year how we arrived to our resort (Port Orleans French Quarter) and then took the boat to DTD for the evening. So part of me felt as though we hadn’t really arrived until we made it downtown! Needless to say, I was super excited to be heading to DTD!

I would like to mention here something about the “remoteness of AKL”. Before our trip I read many things here about how people felt that the resort was remote and everything (with the exception of AK, of course) was a journey to get to. I found that not to be the case. We had no issues getting to the parks or other resorts in a reasonable amount of time (well, except the day we took the bus to MK but that’s a WHOLE other story coming up later). The only destination that I noticed the distance was DTD. It took us a good 30 minutes to get there, which I found to be a bit much. Maybe we were just spoiled last year because we stayed at a DTD area resort and had the luxury of taking the boat there, but this WAS a journey.

So after a nice drive, we made our way to DTD and headed…

Where else but the World of Disney?!

I just love this store. Who doesn’t right? So much to see – and buy. Now I have a method for WOD. I do not spend a lot of money on souviners, mostly because I don’t like “things”. You know, little figurines, snowglobes, picture frames. Well, I shouldn’t say that I don’t like them - what I mean is that, I’m very particular about the decoration of my home and if it doesn’t match my décor, it isn’t going out. Disney doesn’t really match my shabby chic theme, unfortunately. So you see, buying all of these things would be a waste of money, right?

Well the problem is, once you’re in WOD you tend to forget about your shabby chic décor and want to buy EVERYTHING, regardless of whether it will totally clash or not.

So my “method” is that one trip to WOD is just to look. This is when I spend most of my time and take everything in and find hundreds of dollars worth of “stuff” I just HAVE to have. But I don’t buy anything. Not yet.

Later in the trip I return to WOD to buy. By this point I’ve decided what it is that I really want and that’s all that I purchase. We try to keep our souvenir purchases under $100.

Ok, now that you know way more than you ever cared to about my shopping habits, let’s take a look at some things we found at WOD.

I loved the stuffed animals :cloud9:

After making our rounds at WOD we passed by TREX. We would be eating there the following night!

Then we walked into RainForest Cafe to take a look at the fish!

And yet another Christmas Tree

After a bit of walking around in the freezing weather, we decided to check out Earl of Sandwich for dinner. I had read so many wonderful things about the place and had to check it out.

YUM! Is all I have to say! Such good sandwiches. Unfortunately I forgot a picture but FI had the club and I had the Full Montague and they were both wonderful! :thumbsup2

After our yummy sandwiches, we headed into Goofy's Candy Company for some sweet treats.

Here's what we left with...

And this...I *might* have bought a *much* larger bag of this later in the week :rolleyes1

After we left Goofy's it was time to head back to the resort for some rest. The next day we had....NOTHING planned!

UP NEXT: Where will we spend our FREE day?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is A LOT of miles :lmao: I am seriously shocked. No wonder we get so tired!

I have never been to DTD! I really want to try EOS one day! I am happy you liked the food. And your sweet treat you made looks SO yum!

Can't wait to hear what you guys do next! Also, glad to find out that the AKL is not too remote. Some of my friends have told me the same thing...guess it is just one of those WDW false rumors ;)

Great update! A nice evening at DTD can be quite relaxing... especially after 32 miles!

Also, that marshmallow gooeyness guy looks amazing and I want some!

Wow do you put inserts into your shoes? I'm sorry about that. I know my feet start to hurt after that long too! But this time I'm bringing really spongy flip flops. I hope it doesn't rain! I'm going to bring three pairs of shoes but I think think I'm going to need the third it's a just in case. :P I'm glad DTD was great! I love the prince hat!!!

Congrats on your 32 miles!!!! I so want to wear my Pedometer this trip and see what it is now that we have Ash in tow.

We also don't mind the distance for AKL. It never bothered us either.

Nice restaint at WOD. We too don't do souvies but I can always manage to find SOMETHING in there.

Free day hmmm. I'm guessing you won't be swimming ;) :rotfl:

37 miles! Oh my gosh! I like your method for World of Disney. We usually go there on one of our last nights, so by that point, I'm grabbing everything! I'm excited for the next update :)

That is amazing!! Disney is such good exercise!! That's why I never feel guilty eating all of the rich, yummy food-- it burns off so quickly!
Such a nice DTD evening, you guys saw/did a lot! We somehow ended up there 3 times during our 5-night trip. So much to do and see-- we ate at T-REX too and loved it! Can't wait to hear your opinion about it.

YAY for an update! :yay:

32 miles??? From now on, I'm going to be even more tired at Epcot, just knowing how many miles I'm walking!

I really want to try EoS on this trip. Every picture I've seen or review that I've read, makes it sound delicious! :thumbsup2

Isn't it amazing how much we walk at Disney?! It was so eye-opening to know the actual miles. I wish my pedometer lasted for the whole trip - I would have loved to know the grand total!

DTD is so much fun! We just love it there. :thumbsup2 There's such great shopping and dining. You must go there on your next trip!

Great update! A nice evening at DTD can be quite relaxing... especially after 32 miles!

After 32 miles I definitely needed some retail therapy at DTD! And the marshmallow was amazing! :thumbsup2 It lasted like three days because it was so sweet.

I love to read tr. I can't wait until we get to go back in nov. Im a wdw nut also:wizard:

Isn't reading TR's fun?! I find it so interesting to hear about how other people "do" disney. I'm so glad to have you reading along! :goodvibes

You know, I've never thought about inserts...maybe I need to get some. I hope your flip flops work out well - and that there's NO rain!

We had so much fun with those hats at WOD! I think I have about 20 hat pictures, but I thought I might lose some readers if I posted them all! :lmao:

Congrats on your 32 miles!!!! I so want to wear my Pedometer this trip and see what it is now that we have Ash in tow.

Ooohhh, you should definitely wear your pedometer on your trip! I would love to hear how "far" you make it! :goodvibes

It is sooo hard not to leave WOD with bags full of things that I will have no room for at home! That's why I have my "method" - if I know I'll be back later in the week I can walk away pretty easily.

Haha...no, no swimming for us. :rotfl: However, that was one of the things I had scheduled for our "free" day until we go there and the temperature was below freezing! :scared1:

37 miles! Oh my gosh! I like your method for World of Disney. We usually go there on one of our last nights, so by that point, I'm grabbing everything! I'm excited for the next update :)

I am such a shopper, so I have to have some control in there or I would leave with hundreds of dollars of goodies! I will say though, on our next trip to WOD, we did not leave empty handed :rolleyes1

That is amazing!! Disney is such good exercise!! That's why I never feel guilty eating all of the rich, yummy food-- it burns off so quickly!

I feel the same way about the food! We ate SO much that week it was ridiculous but the walking more than made up for it ;)

We love DTD! It's such a nice way to get away from the parks but still feel the Disney magic, you know? We visited there three times this trip too! Three nights in a row, in fact.

T-REX is a must do for us! The food is so good and you get so much of it! Plus the atmosphere is lots of fun :thumbsup2

YAY for an update! :yay:

32 miles??? From now on, I'm going to be even more tired at Epcot, just knowing how many miles I'm walking!

I really want to try EoS on this trip. Every picture I've seen or review that I've read, makes it sound delicious! :thumbsup2

I couldn't believe it when I saw we had walked 18 miles in Epcot! Crazy, isn't it. I'd say that definitely counteracts that napoleon I had there, would you? :lmao:

EOS is so good! I wish I had pictures of the sandwiches...unfortunately my food picture taking was kind of sporatic on this trip. :sad2:

It turns out I don't need inserts that's what actually caused all my running pain...but I do need new shoes. I'm trying to get the special ones that they mold to your feet so they are just right for you.

But inserts do help a lot. You could either get insert or go to one of those shoe places that will help you find the right shoe for you. Since your flat footed you need support on your arch. They will be able to suggest the right kind of shoes from sneakers to dress shoes. I don't know if they have a "Foot Solutions" around you but you might.

Thank you for posting your 2.5 day pedometer update. I have been encouraging my DH to buy a comfy pair of "walking sandals" before our Easter trip, but he insists his broken in Sketchers will be OK. After telling him your mileage, he is reconsidering! (He better hurry so there's time to break them in!)

BTW - Great trip report!!! We are two without kids 20-/30-somethings who are going together and it's great to read a TR for people in the same situation!
