Where would you eat with these two choices?

We have the choice of Biergarten (The German Place in Epcot) or Coral Reef.

I originally booked Coral Reef, because of the theme. But now I am having second thoughts. I just looked up on Dining Reservations and they have Biergarten for the same day and time. What would you do? :confused3

I am leaning for Biergarten... I have read a couple trip reports of people that went there and they all loved it. While Coral Reef seems to be hit or miss... It is for my Mom's Birthday Dinner so I want her to love it. She does love German food, grandma and great grandma are both from Germany so she grew up with it.... Choices... Hmmm...

I would choose Biergarten hands down. How many will be in your party? There is a chance that if it is a small group you may be at a table with other people.

Went to Biergarten for lunch last year for the first time and loved it .....they sit you at a table with other people which was half the fun talking to a couple from Maine and this other family I forget now where they were from. The food is great and don't be afraid to order the large mug of beer if you can not finish it there, they will give you a plastic cup so you can take it with you when you leave. I am making ADR for Biergarten but for dinner this November because the pics I have seen show how it looks like you are sitting outside at night even though your inside. I can not wait to go back there.

I have gone to Coral Reef twice but unless you get a good viewing table for the fish tanks (which we did not either time) I think the food is very over priced for the quality and quantity.

Also the entertainment(Musical) at Biergarten is definately an added plus, I think your Mom will enjoy being of German heritage.

Thanks for the replys. We have 9 people in our party... How many can sit at a table at Biergarten?

The tables at Biergarten fit 8 adults I think, but I am sure they can get 9 at a table. I also vote for Biergarten. The last couple of trips to Coral Reef were disappointing. I used to love going there when I was younger but, IMHO, the food has slipped too much in quality. Sure if you get a table right next to the aquarium it's pretty cool, for about 6 mins. Then the appeal of the aquarium wares off and CR is exposed for what it is, a sub-par-over-priced seafood restaurant.

Wait! I vote for Coral Reef! This is my favorite place to eat in all of WDW!

Ditto for me - love Coral Reef!

What is it that you love about Coral Reef? I was really looking forward to Coral Reef even though I am not a seafood girl... AT. ALL. But then all the horrible reviews lately that I have been reading, have me thinking twice about it. I know that everyone should try it at least once before saying they don't want to do something. I will probably eat at Coral Reef in the future if I don't eat there this time. I just want my mom's Birthday meal to be the best it can be...

Biergarten! I lived in Germany for four years and so did my DH. So whenever we get a chance to eat German food, we do it! I love Biergarten, the band, the food, aww it just reminds me so much of living there! YUM! Okay going to German Gourmet tonight for some BRATWURST- YUM!! :thumbsup2

They are very different experiences so it is hard to say which is better. Biergarden is a buffet, Coral Reef is standard menu service. Biergarden is a busy atmosphere while the Coral Reef is quieter. Biergarden has live entertainment that has some audience participation. In Coral Reef you are surrounded by the literally live entertainment, the aquarium.

Which you will like is pretty much down to which experience you are looking for, not which is really "better".

That is where the problem comes in... lol We as a family would like either one. Maybe with the kids going to the busier one would be a good idea, then if my DS decides to be a typical three year old it won't be as noticeable. Either way I can't wait to go!!!

Have eaten at both and have not returned, mediocre food.

Entertainment at Biergarden is very good. This is a buffet, and you would thing there would be something we would like. Just didn't care for this food.

Coral Reef has changed the cooks since we last ate here. Probably will try it again someday. Best thing about this restaurant is getting a seat by the tank.

I think that is probably true. It is loud anyway so he can just blend in. I think having the kids with me would push me towards Biergarden.

As mentioned, Coral Reef does have "entertainment" of sorts, what with the fish tank. And we've found the food there to be pretty good.
Never could recommend Biergarden since it's a buffet and "community" dining--neither of which we care for. Of course with the # of people in your group, you'd have your own table anyway----

Thanks for all the responses. I think we might try to go to Biergarten. I think that is the type of thing my mom and kids would really enjoy. I've looked at the menu and I know my kids will eat almost everything that they have listed. So they won't go hungry. lol Guess it helps that we have German 'type' food at home a lot, so they are use to it.

biergarten is my DH's favorite WDW restaurant. the pork schnitzel is his all-time favorite food, and i love the entertainment. the children in your party would enjoy it, as everyone is encouraged to come to the floor and dance. it really is a great place.
