I am finally caught back up..we had such cold weather on our trip. I had the cutest shirts for Caleb to wear but no one ever saw them it was soo cold! He also fell asleep about 2 seconds before spectro magic started one night...i think he would have loved all the music and lights...oh well! LOL!

I noticed that some parts of the party were really crowded, but the waits in the llines were still short??? I am so confused by this when I read the reviews. Would you say that most people are there to see the snow on Main St and the entertainment, so the Main Street area is really crowded for that reason? How would you rate the crowd level overall compaired to a normal MK day? I hope you don't mind me asking all of these questions!!! Just happy to find someone who was there at the same time we are thinking of going

Aww, poor Will's face on Barnstormer! Alex was just under 35" when we took him at 22 months, so he wasn't able to go on it. We did take him to the Little Mermaid show at HS, but the witch on that scared him and he buried his face in DH and didn't watch most of it.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one that has to drag my kid kicking and screaming away from play areas and parks. I used to get so embarrassed, but now I've gotten used to it.

Welcome! thanks for reading along- that is a great time to go! for MVMCP- the weekend parties are more crowded- do a weeknight party if you can (tue/thurs). Our strategy is to ride rides during the first parade (8:15pm i think). Most people watch the first parade. So we were in fantasyland by ourselves almost with no lines! Then holiday WISHES is at 9:30, so we watched that and then caught the second parade at 10:30pm. Yes, holiday WISHES was crowded, much like any fireworks show. The parade route gets a bit crowded too- but by seeing the second one, it isn't as bad. We always stake out spots in Frontierland and get great spots to spread out more.

A lot of people are there for the entertainment, which some happens at the castle stage and some in tomorrowland. there is a special beauty and beast reading i think too in her little reading nook area. there is a dance party in the back by ariel's grotto too. So Main Street isn't any more particularly crowded than usual except during parades and WISHES.

as for rating it- we did a Tuesday night party, which i think can be the least crowded of them all. it wasn't that crowded to me, but again, we rode rides when most wehre watching the parade. we enjoyed it and didn't really fight any crowds. of course we plan very well using Fastpasses etc. and won't wait for anything more than 20 minutes. And.....DH and I are people that do not like crowds. I just hate having to fight through a sea of people in the streets/walkways. the only time we experienced that was trying to get to the hub for a spot for WISHES. It is always like that though for any WISHES, not just the holiday one.

for the second parade, my family had staked out a spot right on the ropes in frontierland. we were able to walk up literally 5 minutes before and still had plenty of room to sit in the front with them.

I'll get back to our last few days here pretty soon. In the meantime, I had made a list of things we missed that I want to tackle on the next few trips.........


THINGS WE MISSED
So you might think, gee they were there for 9 days and 10 nights, surely they saw everything at Disney. Right? Wrong……BIG Wrong. I know, it sounds crazy and yes, 9 days actually got to be a little too long for us. Seriously, when I worked at Disney World for almost 4 months back in 1996, I still never had time to see it all. Most folks don’t realize there are 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, 2 mini golf areas, over 25 disney resorts, downtown Disney, tons of restaurants and so much more- just on Disney property! With all the special events they throw in, it is hard to see and do it all. Especially if it is crowded. Plus, I'd like to spend more time just enjoying the atmosphere and not rushing around.

So 10 nights, 9 days……. If Pooh was a little older, it might not have been too long, but at his age, it was slightly too long and too much for us. I think it was a lot to take in for him and overstimulating! Not for me of course! But we still had a good time and loved everything. But travelling with a toddler meant 3 hour midday breaks everyday for a nap. Heck, we needed the rest too. While we were usually up and out the door by 7;30am or 8am most days and out until 10pm or later- we still didn’t fit it all in. There are a lot of things we missed that I am really disappointed we skipped or just simply didn’t have the time to get too or they didn’t make sense to do with Pooh on board. I think part of our issue was all the sit down meals- which took 2 hours on average per meal. That ate into a lot of our time. Plus in December the park hours are shorter. And we were busy trying to fit some of the holiday stuff in too. It really made for a busy week, despite 9 days!

So what did we miss that I hope we get to do next trip?

• Spaceship Earth for a second time- we rode once, but I wanted to ride again, since it was renovated. I forgot to take a picture of our picture and we didn't spend time exploring the new exit area with the games etc.
• Illuminations- I know in 9 nights we never managed to see it! We were at Epcot only two evenings and one of those was drinking around the world and the other was dinner at Le Cellier and we just missed the show. Bummer. Actually, we saw it as we were driving in on our first night from the airport, but that doesn't count!
• Fantasmic- with fewer shows, it was hard to get into and I think was a little too scary for Pooh at his age anyhow- save for a future trip in a few years.
• Maelstrom at Norway- we had breakfast there, but the ride wasn’t open yet and we never made it back
• World Showcase- we did a ‘drink around the world’ night, but were very rushed and didn’t actually shop or explore. Alan and I rushed through the countries on the last morning, but again, didn’t get to take the time I really wanted to. Didn’t get to enjoy the entertainment each country offers- like the drummers in Japan etc.
• Jumping fountains at the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot- my sisters and I always get a picture here of us trying to ‘catch’ the jumping water, but we didn’t do that this year. I missed the fountains completely in my rush to get to our Coral Reef lunch. Again- the dining sort of took over too much I think.
• Big Thunder Mountain at MK- I completely missed this one. Just never had time to get back there. We did Splash a few times but never Big Thunder.
• Pixie Hollow- I intended to get back there and see Tink, but never did- the one time I tried, the line said it was 45 minutes and I just wasn’t willing to wait that long.
• Carousel of Progress- an oldie but goodie- missed it this time- I knew Pooh wouldn’t sit through it. We may have to save this for way on down the road, not sure he will even sit through it at 3yo.
• Candlelight Processional- I did this back in 1996 and saw Lou Gosset Jr. narrate when I worked at Disney. It was amazing- but again, not something Pooh would sit through. Really sad I missed a chance to see this. It is really amazing.
• Voices of Liberty- I love them!! The American Adventure show at Epcot is good, but the voices of liberty that come out beforehand are the real show. Again- something Pooh wouldn’t sit through, so I didn’t even attempt.
• Talking Trash Can or the Jammitors- since Pooh is so into trash, I thought it would be fun to see one of these, but never found ‘PUSH’ the talking trash can or the Jammitors (a drumming group that plays on trash cans as drums), but our schedule was so packed, that I didn’t make the time to seek them out and check when they would be out and about.
• Innoventions at Epcot- it is fun strolling through here and I think had some things Pooh would have enjoyed- like the fire truck. Plus I wanted to see the Raytheon ‘Sum of All Fears’ design your own coaster thing- since I worked at Raytheon- but we never found time to even go in Innoventions.
• VISA photo time- never made it for the free Disney VISA photo opp at Epcot
• Christmas Tree at Epcot- never really spent anytime in that area to see it up close and personal!
• Chocolate Mousse in France at Epcot- LOVE the French bakery and missed it this time. Again, just eating too much as it was,so there wasn’t a good time to go.
• Mickey’s Toon Town Fair- I know this area will be going away in the next few years- I think construction starts on the new Fantasyland rehab in January! I’ve never spent much time here and Pooh would have loved the Donald’s Boat area with the water sprays. It was too cold the times we were in that area for him to play there.
• Train at Animal Kingdom- we ended up only spending one morning/afternoon at AK and missed our chance to take the train to the conservation station for Pooh to see the petting zoo and pet the animals.
• Primeval Whirl-at Animal Kingdom- one of my favorites- just didn’t find the time!
• Lion King or Nemo show at Animal Kingdom- due to our limited time at AK, never made it to a show- saw all the attractions almost though.
• Shopping at Hollywood Studios- didn’t get to go into the Villains store or a few others that I wanted to visit.
• Downtown Disney- wish I had spent more time in Tren-D, but I knew Alan was ready to go as was Pooh. Also would love to get down to the other end and see the other restaurants like the Irish Pub and the Characters in Flight balloon.
• Activities at our resort- I wish we had more time to do more at the resort- they had an afternoon cookie baking session everyday for the kids, activities at the pool and more.
• Disney Outlet Store- would have liked to made it over there (off site) for some deals!

So yep, we've got a good list going now of things we want to do on our next trip- which is just 9 months away!

Is this just for certain big-thrill rides or all of them?
And how do you get them?

THURSDAY, December 17th

Today the plan was hit 1900 Park Fare for breakfast, morning at MK and then dinner at Hoop Dee Doo Revue! Our family is a little obsessed with HDD! We do it almost every trip. Our breakfast was scheduled for 8:05am. We all drove separately over, so arrived at different times. We had to park across the street and had a short walk to the GF to the breakfast. We’ve done this meal before, but it has been awhile.

I wasn’t sure if we even wanted to do this meal originally, this was one of those ‘extra’ meals my sister scheduled. Since we were up and at em anyway, we decided to head over. We had barely any wait before we were being escorted in for the obligatory picture. Then to our table, in the corner near the entrance. I had made a big mistake, albeit on purpose all week…….I always seated Pooh on the inside of the table- so that he would be ‘trapped’ and couldn’t easily get up and ‘escape’. Being just over 2, he doesn’t sit well through long meals and tries to get up and run around, which isn’t very friendly to the hard working cast members carrying large trays of drinks overhead. Nothing like trying to avoid a toddler loose on the floor! So we intentionally always sat against the wall when possible or on the ‘inside’. Of course for character meals, that made it hard for us to get photos with the characters. I had to drag him out each time, which was difficult. Next trip, we will sit on the outside and hope he does better with mealtime by then. It was very difficult at this particular meal, as we were at the end of the table, up against the wall in a corner. I had to scoot behind 4-5 family members and chairs to get out for pictures.

So anyhow- we enjoyed an okay breakfast here. I wasn’t extremely hungry- I am not a big breakfast eater, I have to be in the right mood. I did enjoy the characters- Alice, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins and then of course Pooh’s favorite- Pooh! The buffet was good and plentiful- I just prefer Crystal Palace. I don’t know, something about the atmosphere here just doesn’t do it for me. I can’t quite place my finger on it though. I just don’t see us going back anytime soon. It was a mediocre meal, but there are just other meals I want to try. So Pooh enjoyed the m&ms and gummi bears with his eggs. We all got autographs in our custom autograph books, which were always a big hit, especially with the ‘face characters’ that could actually express how much they liked it verbally!

After breakfast, Alan, Pooh and I headed out to explore the Grand Floridian a little bit. We had been here before many times. I’ve eaten at the fast food place here, enjoyed drinks at the lounge/bar upstairs more than once and explored the outside too. But Alan really hadn’t seen it all, so off we went. We did see the famous gingerbread house, but it was still so early that it wasn’t open. I did get to see it open last trip though and we did purchase a shingle then. This time, we just enjoyed taking a few pictures of the gorgeous tree and house. As we exited into the back near the pool to explore outside, we noticed they were doing some major construction work to the floors. They were adding custom marble that had the characters built in. It was just beautiful! We could see the already finished work by the front entrance.

So we exited and went out to walk around and enjoy the scenery and smell the roses, literally! Nene and Jeff were also out here looking around. Pooh wanted to go down to the beach area and walk on the sand, so we did that too. Then we finally headed back out to the car and drove over to MK. We had considered just taking the monorail and leaving the car there, but we knew the ‘rules’ and that we shouldn’t do that since we had completed our time at the GF. So we made the short drive over to the TTC, parked and took the monorail to the MK.

Not sure where my parents or Wowo/Mike ended up, but we met up with Nene and Jeff and took the train. We timed it just right- barely a wait at all and we were off. Pooh’s at that age where he is just really getting into trains, so I figured he might enjoy this. We took the loop around to the Toontown station where we got off and got some great shots of the train. Really a beauty!

Then we headed to Buzz and with a short wait, we were saving the empire from the evil Zurg. Of course as Alan was concentrating to get the best score, I was getting barely anything with Pooh at the helm! Alan and I are both pretty competitive! Needless to say, I (or Pooh), lost. We explored TL a little bit more and it was sort of a dreary day, although not chilly or anything. We also did Space again I believe here!

Then it was still so early, probably about 11am, we decided to head to Epcot for a few hours for lunch and exploring. So off we went.

We hit Epcot for a bit and then decided to do the ride in Mexico and then eat lunch at the quick service outside. They’ve changed up the menu since last time I ate here. I used to like their nachos, piled high with black beans, beef and other toppings. I think the beans were gone now (and I love black beans) and it just wasn’t the same. We met up with my parents who also enjoyed some lunch.

We got a nice table near the water and of course Pooh would not sit still, he was obsessed with the trash can nearby. He kept walking over to pretend to throw stuff away.

We had grabbed test track fast passes on the way in, so we rode test track after lunch (not the best idea probably? Lol) . We had a good time. I think Alan really enjoys this one. He used to work for the GM plant in Arlington TX and his brother still does. So we probably could have used his old GM ID to get into the GM lounge, but we never have tried. Anyone been up there? By now it was getting late and we needed to be ready to head to Hoop Dee Doo by 5:15 or so. So we headed back to the room for another break.

on child swap- it is available for i think almost all rides- although i have read that one guest attempted to do child swap on toy story mania and was denied (becuase you can take a child on the ride with you, but that still doesn't make sense to me, and not sure if it is true or was just one particular cast member htey came across)

Child swap works like this- so for example, it is me, my husband and my child. We walk up to say Tower of Terror, i tell the cast member at the queue line that we need a child swap pass. He sees the child with us and so then provides us a 'pass'. it is like a fast pass usually. So then my husband goes through the stand by line (however long it is) while I then go wait at the exit with my son. Once my husband exits the right, he then watches my son, while i go back to the queue line and show the cast member my pass- he then usually directs you to the fastpass line, so then i have a minimal wait. So it basically saves from both parents having to wait in the standby line.

I've used it on all the thrill rides. I've never tried to use it on a ride that our son could ride, since we usually take him on. But youc ould use it at Haunted Mansion i am sure, and probably Pirates, as some kiddos are scared of the dark. Just ask the CM.

MVMCP tickets usually go on sale like May 1st. Pricing is typically:

Usually it is on sunday, tues, thurs and fridays. The weekend ones are more crowded (fri/sun). We did a tuesday and found it to be the least crowded from what I've heard and experienced.

no idea on free dining. I had just gotten a pin for it last year in the fall when they announced it was free to the public anyhow. They will wait for an incentive like that until probably early fall, once they can see how the bookings are going. They only will offer such incentives if bookings are low and they need to get more people to fill rooms. You can't really count on them offering anything, since it all depends on how the numbers are crunching at any given time. ​

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17th- part II

After our nice rest, we were all up and at ‘em, ready to meet in the lobby at 5:15. We took the boat over to Fort Wilderness, which is so convenient from WL. We were there in no time. HDD is a favorite of my parents, so we had to do it! We do it almost every trip and always have a good time. The last trip, Nene was picked to participate in the show as the dancer, which was funny since she teaches dance at the high school she works at and was their drill team director. We also had fantastic seats last time, that big round table right in the middle. It was perfect. With a party of 13, we didn’t really expect to get great seats, but we had paid for the TIER 1 seating, so we knew we would be on the first floor and towards the front a bit.

So we took the boat over and I went to check us in at the window. We did not want to do the photo, so we passed on that. Some of us found rocking chairs on the porch of Trail’s End and just relaxed. A few of us went over to explore the general store. We would have explored a lot more, but it was now raining. One of the few times during our whole trip.

We purchased a few things in the store and then saw the amazing Christmas display at the large camper in the space right near the store. This is like one of those displays you probably saw on the HGTV Disney Holidays special with Samantha Brown. It was incredible to see in person. They must be snowbirds that come down and stay in FL all winter. They had so many Disney themed lights and displays, including a lot of Pooh ones which Pooh loved. And then in the cab/window of the large camper were TONS of stuffed animals, mostly Disney- filling the front dash and windshield completely. There were lots of folks coming over to see the display and other campers driving by in their golf carts. It was a lot of fun to see that- another special holiday moment at Disney! It was especially cool after seeing it on TV!

We headed back over to get in the line for the show. Before they started the ‘tiered’ seating packages, it used to be sort of first come, first serve. I remember standing in that line forever, hoping we would get a good seat. Now with the tiered pricing, we didn’t have to worry, they pre-assign the tables anyhow. So soon we were heading in for the 7:15pm show. Lo and behold, we score once again- front row seats! We were split into two tables- but one was at the very front left corner and the other was second row right next to it. Nene/Jeff and Wowo and her family took the far corner table and then my parents, Nancy, Chase and my family took the other.

The show got going and we enjoyed the barbeque, I especially love the beans. Wow, I just have a bean thing huh- between the beans here and the black beans at Mexico! LOL. Pooh also enjoyed the beans too! Of course, an almost 2 hour dinner event isn’t very kind to my poor Pooh who has a very small attention span. He enjoyed the show at first, but soon he was trying to get up and run around the restaurant, which was not acceptable. So I had to go outside for about 15 minutes with him. That was no fun and was the second or third meal this trip that I had to do that. It wouldn’t be so bad, except I was missing the show now. The show was as cute as always, and Pioneer Hall was decorated so pretty for the holidays.

Ally wore the little head gear and Mike and her both had to sing a song. It was way too cute! Once again, we were lucky to be picked! [/COLOR][/FONT]

They also kept teasing my dad. Giggling Clair, the blond, kept going to sit in his lap and kept referring to my dad throughout the show- ‘Oh Jim!’- she’d come over and kiss his cheek etc. Then the redhead got in on it too! He is pretty shy, so this was hilarious- he would turn beet red everytime she came over! Soon enough dessert was being delivered and we all enjoyed it. Not to mention the all you can drink beer and sangria! We participated in the music and singing and had an overall fabulous time!

So as the show ended, I think it was about 9 or 9:15. We headed out and had to get Pooh’s stroller and take a bathroom break. We were instructed by cast members that we needed to head to the buses, not boats, that the boats were not operating, there were also signs saying so. So Nancy, Chase and my family headed towards the bus depot and waited about 20 minutes. My parents, Nene, Jeff and Wowo’s family were not to be found. Turns out the boats were running- but I guess, they just discourage folks from taking it as not to overload it? I don’t know. But the rest of my family went and got on the boat. Turns out, they were in for some pixie dust and we missed out! As they arrived for a stop at the Contemporary first, there was Peter Pan! You might have heard of the little pirate cruise/WISHES cruise they offer and apparently Peter had just landed at the dock. So they all got to see him and get pics and hang out pretty much one on one! How cool is that? But yeah, we missed it. We were sitting on a crowded bus, all wet from the rain. So we made it back to the WL and tucked in for another night.

So what would tomorrow bring? Would we stick to our schedule for AK in the am and Dinner at Le Cellier in the pm? Find out!

GREAT update!!! I know that my in-laws would LOVE HDDR, but I am worried now long my 2 year old (will be 3 when we go) will last. He does really well during long dinners, but he may get too excited and want to run and play there. What do you think?

On my last trip I learned not to take the CM's word for it! While most of them are really helpful and have wonderful information, some times there is miscommunication or, like you said, they try to divert the crowds! So bummed you missed out on Peter Pan, but it still sounds like you had an amazing day!! We still have yet to meet Peter and Wendy..some of our favorites too

Pooh's obsession with trash cans is too funny! I love the ones of him with the Streetmosphere character at DHS!!

The Wishes dessert party looks fun! I kind of wish we had set that up one night on our trip as well, but in the planning, it didn't really fit in with all of the other stuff we wanted to do at night. If I did the party, I'd have to also see Wishes from my regular campout on Main Street another night, because I'm ridiculous like that! But your pictures came out great of the fireworks from where you were sitting. How lucky on getting that front row table! And DH and I definitely enjoy our desserts.

HDD looks fun as well! I haven't done that since the first or second time we went as a family when I was 12 or 13. And of course at that age, I was "too cool" for a silly show like that. I have been reading lots of TRs where they've gone to HDD, and I think we'll have to plan on attending when we go on future trips.

If he does well during long dinners, then you are probably good. plus my little guy had just turned 2, so he is still at that really antsy phase. My nephew, who had just turned 3, did fine and sat through the whole show. My son is just one who won't even watch more than 5 minutes of TV. He is always on the go and can't sit still long. He likes to be playing and active, not watching a show, tv or sitting still. I bet your son would do fine. There is such good entertainment there! I do recommend it.

You can often find Wendy right near the exit of Pirates. There is a bathroom hidden in the corner over there- to the right of hte pirates exit/gift shop (great bathroom, not crowded!) and she is usually right there with little lines.

lol- i totally understand about wanting to see WISHES from the main street vantage point too. I know, i did miss seeing hte castle exactly centered between the fireworks. it is still great though, but i know what you are saying!

HDD is definitely worth doing again as an adult (plus all you can drink beer/sangria!) It is something to check out again though.
