CM comment...what do you think?

When I booked my reservation, I was going to book with the intent that I would do the package, with QS dining.

They told me that, for the room that I wanted, they did not have any of the gc packages left. I decided to just book a room only reservation.

So, she seemed surprised. Then she proceeded to, of her own accord, look at my name and my husband's name to see if we had any codes attached. I made a comment that I've been hoping for one of those for a while, but it just isn't happening.

Her response..."Oh, it will'.

What would you make of that? Do you all think it's possible that my turning down the dining and package may lead to a code, or do you think she was just talking? She proceeded to say it a couple more times when I was laughing about how I know a bunch of people that have gotten them, and my turn hasn't come.

It probably meant nothing...but it would be awesome to get that free QS code. :)

Did you know that if you booked room only, you can swap it into a package and get the tickets & dining? The 'room only' discount just means that the discount is only on the room portion of the package costs.

As to what the CM said... I have no clue. Sometimes they say things, but it doesn't mean they know anything extra. Also, if you do get the PIN for the QS dining, you can always have it applied to your ressie, to save some $$.

This is very interesting to me...

Because when my PIN's starting coming, it was right around the time that I kept going back and forth from Package to RO to Package, etc....

This is a very interesting theory.

I can't still get the gift card though, can I?

I saw that you mentioned this on another person's thread. So, is it basically just add the approximately 850.00 for the tickets then? I'm not sure about dining at this point anyway. We were going to do it when we were staying at ASMo, but we can save money by not doing the dining, and since we're staying at AKL now, the extra bucks will come in handy. We considered it because we thought it might be fun to have extra options, but we don't really need it. Free QS dining would be awesome though, but maybe it isn't the better deal. My brain is getting spinny with all of these options! :)

So, I guess what I am asking is...without the g.c., what is the benefit of the package over room only? Are there extra savings that I am missing?

TIA!

I initially booked my mid-June vacation back in December with no PINs or general public discounts. When they extended the offers/discounts through the summer, I added the room discount to my package, allowing me to upgrade from a value to a moderate for a mere $70 more (TOTAL). However, if I had the free QS dining PIN (we're planning on using the QSDP anyway), that would save me more than $100 than what the room discount is saving me now, so I'm hoping for that PIN.

But, to get back to what you were saying about what the CM was saying to you . . . When I booked my package by phone back in December (prior to having any type of discount), the CM was saying the same types of things to me . . . I said something about how I can't seem to get any of these elusive pins I hear about and she kept saying things like, "Well, we're going to see if we can make some magic happen for you" and something about 'pixie dust'. Needless to say, it has been over 2 months since that conversation and I've never gotten any type of PIN by email (or snail mail). I do plan on calling at some point to see if there is a PIN "attached to my name", but I'm not counting on it.

You can add the tickets to your room only price, and it is whatever the full price of tickets are for your party.
There are currently TWO offers out that will save you money. The first offer is to book a package (hotel + tickets) and get a FREE gift card... the value of the GC depending on what level of resort you choose. You tried to do this, but the CM said they were sold out for your dates/resort choice.

The second offer is to book a discount off the room rate of your resort (what your CM might have done when she booked your reservation). It is 20-40% depending on what level resort & number of days you are visiting. Then, you can choose to add your park tickets (followed by the dining plan) to this offer, making it a package. For some resorts, the % discount is a better deal than the GC offer. Much of it depends on the individual trip (like the length, etc). For example: 5 nights at a value is a better deal on the GC (when you subtract the $300 value from you package total) than it is for the room only by about $30. However, go 6 nights or more, and the better deal is the room discount.

The benefits of a package booked are that you have everything all together. You get some "extras" from Disney (arcade voucher, spa voucher, water sport voucher, mini golf voucher, etc). The big disadvantage to a package is that final payment is due 45 days prior to travel, where as a room only must be paid in full upon check-in.

Okay, that's pretty much what I thought, but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. Thank you!

Definitely, the room only is better for me. It's actually a pretty huge difference. See, I don't subtract the g.c. value at all. The way I see it, you pay what you pay. The gift card is in addition to that. It doesn't really help to subtract it because, especially in the case of the deluxes, we would never spend that much (the 750.00) beyond lodging and tickets. Especially if we were to do room, dining and tickets, we would certainly never need that much. The moderate was a good value for the gift card...we would probably use close to 500. But now that we are staying at AKL, the gift card pkg (with room and tickets) would cost us close to 3400. To reserve room only with the discount and buy tickets separately, it will cost us about 2380. Even with food and all of that, we will be spending under 3000. That's why I was thinking I might be missing something...it's a huge difference for us!

I guess we'll see if the mysterious codes ever arrive! For now, I think I'm finally comfortable with what I've booked. :)

does this sound right?? I originally booked CSR 6/3-6/10 with a 35% code that expired yesterday. I called today because I wanted to switch to POP to save some money and also cancel my tickets because i found them on UT with the mousesavers code for $35 cheaper! The CM was kind of rude and after waiting on hold for about 10 minutes told me I could switch to POP as a courtesy but could not cancel my tickets because then I would have to pay rack-rate and lose my pin-code. Does this make any sense to anyone?? :headache:

I think I know why.. normally when a discount code has expired, you can still make changes (including up or downgrading your resort, pending availability) by modifying your existing ressie. But since you want to change from a package to room only, you would have to cancel the package and book again as room only. So, yes, you'd lose the discount because the code is expired, so they can't apply it to the new room only ressie. If you just keep your tickets and switch to Pop, maintaining your package, they should be able to do it. Does that make sense? :goodvibes

That makes perfect sense!! I wish the CM was nice enough to explain it as well as you did!! Thanks!
