November 21, 2010 3 night Cruise on the Wonder, Anyone going on this cruise??

We have booked at 3 night cruise the week of Thanksgving, November 21-24, 2010. We are 1st time cruisers so I was just wondering if anyone else on Disboards will be on the same cruise and if any of you veteran cruisers could give me any tips about what to expect!

Some of the things were are worried about are:
Getting Sea sick, we will be on deck 7, forward. How will this deck be?
What to do in Nassau with an 8 year old and a 5 year old?
How early should we get to the port and board the ship?
How do we get to sit at dinner with another family we know who is going on the
same cruise?

Any information would be sooooo appreciated!

Seasickness is a very common worry, but it doesn't seem to bother too many people. You can bring something on board with you such as Bonine or Children's Dramamine if you are worried about it, ginger is an alternative remedy that many people swear by. They have meclizine (Bonine) available on the ship for free I believe if you need it. Usually if you are going to have a problem at all it is for a few hours the first night while your body adjusts.

You can find some information about the port of Nassau here on the DIS using this link and you can also check cruise critic which has a ton of good port information. Also if you post a port-specific question on the boards here people are great with giving helpful info. There is a pirate museum in Nassau that is pretty popular and a fairly easy walk from the ship, and Atlantis is amazingly fun if you are into water parks (although very expensive). Sometimes you can get a good deal by booking the Comfort Suites at Atlantis (you get full Atlantis resort access), we did this last November and our family of four spent the day there for about $50 each.

Usually they start letting people into the port around 10:00 a.m., although you don't have to get there that early. It's nice to board and get lunch and have the better part of the day to enjoy the ship, though. Bring suits for the kids in your carry on and they can enjoy the pool before it gets crowded.

For your dining reservation, those can be linked through DCL, or by your travel agent if you used one. Just give them a call.

On our last cruise, we got to the port around 9:00 AM. We had to wait until 10:00 park and go into the terminal. Then we had to wait inside the terminal for about 1 hour before we were able to board the boat. If you have small children it can get a little crazy waiting with the crowd.

The 3 day cruise seems short to me. By the time we unpacked and began to relax it was time to repack and get ready to leave. I like the 4 day cruise because we had the extra day at sea.

When you make your reservations tell them to connect your dinner reservation with the other family. Have the other family do the same for your family as well. They do accommodate request when possible. If they can't seat you together at the time of the reservation, you can always ask after you board for a seating change.

Honestly, IMHO it's not enough, for us anyway. The only reason this will be our second 3-day is because the first time it was a $99 pp bounceback offer, and this time we are taking DD's friend and it's the only possible time she can go for various reasons.

When we go as a family we book 7 days, although I have done a 4 day with my best friend and that wasn't too bad. 3 nighters can be nice for people who are really nervous about cruising or who just can't cruise longer for whatever reason, but if you can make it work it I recommend at least 4.

It is so totally NOT enough, but anything is better than nothing. Last year it was all we did so it was a rushed vacation. This year we are adding a few days at WDW after so at least it will seem like a real vacation. My advice for the 3 day is to not schedule anything. We didn't do any excursions, didn't get off the boat in Nassau (been there, done that) so we were really able to enjoy the boat as much as possible. That might be a little harder if it is your 1st cruise, but still don't feel like you have to do it all.....then you'll just be more inspired to come back again, and again, and again.
