Deck 1 is fine...have been there before and had no problems....not sure what you mean by away from the action.....you are only 2 flights of stairs away from MOST of the action that takes place in the Atrium....you will be fine!! The pools are only an elevator ride away.....all passenger hallways are decorated the same you will not know if you are stepping out of Deck 7 or Deck 1.

I've been on deck 1 twice. I didn't care for it but that's because we were in cat 9 rooms. The cat 9s on deck 1 are 2 very small portholes instead of one very large porthole like the cat 9s on deck 2.

Being in a cat 10 you will not notice any difference in the room. The only drawback might be at the ports. Depending on where you are going, you will either use the forward or aft gangway. If they use the forward, it is awesome because you just walk out of your cabin and get off the ship! But, if they use the aft ganagway, you have to take the stairs/elevator to deck 2, walk to the back of the ship and then take the stairs back down to deck 1.

Deck 1 is usually nice and quiet since there are so few rooms on that deck and you are not under any public areas, just other rooms.

Thanks everyone for your replies! We're in room 1047.

We were in 1047 and 1049!! Great rooms...it was so easy to sleep in them and my little guy napped well since there was no porthole!:thumbsup2
It was weird though that we each had a different room steward as that is were they split their areas.

I think you are in a great location. To disembark you have to go up to deck 2 and then forward and then down to deck 1. This is a good thing because that means that no one will be walking past your door to leave the ship.

Last spring the carpeting midship deck 1 was terribly stained and I had a moment where I felt like I was in steerage or something, however it was a great location. I'm sure the carpet issue has been resolved since dry dock.

Now make me feel better about my room assignment. ;)

I've never been on that deck on a DCL ship. I've been on the bottom deck on other ships. There really isn't a best deck. The way they're usually spread out on ships is the shows and dining rooms are low, the food court type stuff and pools are up top. The shops can be anywhere. Nobody is by everything. There are pros and cons to every deck.

A pro here for example is the elevators should be empty most of the time when you get on. I've been on floors in the middle of the ship where it was dinner time and people rode the elevators all the way to the top to go down or all the way to the bottom to go up for something else because every time the doors opened the elevators were always full.

We are in 1049 in June...Do you have any pictures? I would love to see it!

Sure! This is actually room 1047-they were identical rooms except they were reversed. So in 1049 the closet is on your left and the bathroom on your right. I just realized I never took a picture with the bunk down. :confused3

Loveys-You mentioned a bunk...bunk beds? Looked liked a futon type bed. My kids would love bunk beds!

The bunks fold down from the ceiling. This is from a Cat 9 room but I believe all the bunks look the same:
