Refridge with Dr's note on prescription pad?

Probably, but here's my suggestion. YOU get the medical form and fill out the top part. Attach the Dr. note to it, and fax it to DCL. Wait a day or two and call to be sure they got it.

Reality, all they want it a doc's signature along with your name and reservation number, but you may as well make some clerk's life easy....and hopefully your's as well.

TwingleMum to get a real fridge in your cabin for meds you will need to fill out and fax the medical form that is on DCL's website under forms. Otherwise there is only a 'cooling box' that may/may not keep things cold since they vary from cabin to cabin.

Unfortunately, the "frig" in the room isn't really a refrigerator. It is really is as jilljill said, a cooling box. I know on our last trip it didn't keep our sodas and beer cool enough for us. We had to ice them a bit before drinking. I sure wouldn't trust medicine, baby food/formula, or milk products in it.

If I remember this correctly, Cat. 1, 2 and 3 have the real fridg's and the rest the cooling box. The cooling box does not work well. If you are in the 1, 2 or 3 you are fine if not, fill out the form asap to get the fridg in your room. Happy Cruising! Kathy

I'm so glad I saw this!!! My little girl is on medicine that needs to be kept cold...I was so worried about keeping it cold on the way...I didn't even think about keeping it cold once we get there.

I need to fill out the form as soon as possible! We leave soon!

On a side note, does anyone know what we need to get through security with our medicine...it's a liquid..and I was worried they would make me throw it away. I never traveled with liquid medicine before.

Not sure about the cat. 1 and 2, but we were in a cat. 3 this past cruise. The room had the same old "cooling box". I was just happy that our room steward kept our beer and wine iced during the late afternoon and evening.

Prescription medications in their original containers are exempt from the airline rules on liquids. SO...no problems there.

The cooling boxes have improved greatly in the last year, but are not reliable enough for medications.

The correct procedure to get a real fridge in your cabin is to download the Medical Form from the DCL web site. You can complete the form and just have the doc sign it, or the doc can fill it in for you (obviously, YOU will need to do the heading with the reservation number, etc. Many times, the doc's office will fax it for you--the number is right on the form. A few days later, it is a good idea to call DCL and make sure they have the form. Also, KEEP A COPY and bring it with you. That way, if you get to the cabin and the fridge isn't there, you go to GS with the form and point out that it was faxed on XYZ date and you NEED to put the meds away.

I had not heard this, so I checked the TSA page. They are allowed, but only if you declare them when you get to the TSA inspection station. So there is an extra step required, but it doesn't say what they will do if you don't declar them.

"You are not limited in the amount or volume of these items you may bring in your carry-on baggage. BUT if the medically necessary items exceed 3 ounces or are not contained in a one-quart, zip-top plastic bag, you MUST declare to one of our Security Officers at the checkpoint for further inspection."

So I downloand the medical form this morning. Then completed the top portion, taped the dr's note on it and faxed it. Disney called me in the afternoon and said they'll have a real refig put in our room!

Be careful with the real fridge! We had one for dd's insulin. We kept other beverages and water in it too so that was a nice bonus. However it was very old looking and by the 3rd day our water was freezing so we moved the insulin to the cooler box while we tried to "warm it up" a bit.

When I traveled to the world last year I had to have D10 treatments while I was there. So that meant carrying 2 1 liter bags along with my port access suplies and the ambualtory pump through security at the airport. They each had the prescription info on the bag so I just put it in one of those tote thingys that you slide through the x-ray machine. They ran it through then did a quick chemical test on them. No problems it really only took about 30 seconds longer to get through security. This was in Denver so I guess it may depend on where you are at and who you get.

Your stateroom host can adjust it for you. He probably turned it to as cold as possible when he first plugged it in!

I was on insulin for two of my five Disney cruises and was always able to just request the real refrigerator without ever submitting the note from the doctor. Of course, it may be that I was very lucky, so if it is easy enough to get the form filled out, I would do it! I just kept forgetting to do it!

Also, ask for a sharps container if you have needles!

Actually I think our fridge froze as we started running out of beer. The fridge didn't need to be set as cool as it did at first ( the insulin takes a tiny tiny percentage of the fridge) I think dh was able to adjust it we moved the insulin back into it later that day

Hello all - I'm a pharamacist. Some meds do need constant refrigeration but most of you seem to talking about insulin. Almost all types of vials and pens of insulin are stable at room temperature for 28 days, once you start using them. They only need to be refrigerated until you start using them. A very small number of types of insulin have shorter dates - maybe 10 or 14 days. Check wiith your pharmacist. Just keep them at room temp - no temp extremes like freezing or a hot car or anything like that. Hope this helps.

Just make sure you declare the bottle of liquid med at the same time you declare your 3-1-1 bag. Ours wasn't tested like OP was. Our DS was a RX cold med in one of those brown 8oz bottles. They looks at the RX and returned the bottle.

Recent changes are that all suites have a refrig. Should this happen again, contact concierge and they will change it out for you.
