Hi! We are (hopefully) about to leave for Aidan's wish trip, but I wanted to let you know that I am subscribing. Can't wait to follow your PTR once we get back home. The cruise sounds like a blast! I've never been on a cruise, so I'm somewhat jealous.
You know, people can be cruel, and I think that *we* sometimes see that more than others. Aidan has gotten to where he appears more normal on the outside, but that hasn't always been the case. However, his biggest problem with strangers has been his size. For instance, last year, he was five, but still wearing size 2-3T clothes. We were at Vanderbilt Hospital (a children's hospital), and we had a staff member start talking to him. She said, "You are so smart! How old are you?" Aidan replied that he was five. The lady then said, "No, really? How old are you?". Aidan again said five. She said, "I know you're not five. You're too little to be five. Now, tell me how old you really are." It was an innocent conversation on her part, but it really upset Aidan. We walked away from her with him crying and saying, "I am not little! I am a big boy!" I still like to believe that most people are good, but that their ignorance and/or curiosity make them lose that momentarily.
Even Aidan, who has multiple issues, has been known to stare at someone if they are different. Or to ask me questions about people. I usually instruct him to talk to them and find out. But even those conversations don't always go perfectly. I think we all learn as we go.
Aidan has a prominent forehead and low set ears, which will sometimes get comments from kids. And he wears leg braces and has a feeding tube. I love "special" kids. It seems that whatever they lack physically, they more than make up for in love. I love when a child with special needs is the kindest, most loving, tolerant child. Even they know when adults are being ignorant.
Okay, I have a tendency to write long-winded posts. But I do have to get off of here. Almost time for chest PT again. Just wanted to say I'll be following along! And I think all three of your children are just beautiful. Well, I guess I should say handsome for Christopher, but I still think he's beautiful.
Congrats on the dates!
