Just wondering your opinions on which resort feels the most relaxing. We may have to go during a peak time:sad1: and would like to stay somewhere that's not too chaotic. We aren't too fussy and would probably be happy to pitch a tent as long as it's Disney.LOL.Just thought I'd ask you veterans out there...THANKS!!

Most of the resorts are pretty busy during a peak time. SSR and OKW are two that even when other resorts are booked still have rooms. I've never stayed at either. It depends on what you want to spend as well and the atmosphere you like. You could pitch a tent at Fort Wilderness if you want!!

You will probably get a million opinions on this. I guess the most sound advice I can give you is to avoid the value resorts. I think they tend to be hectic during moderate times. During slow times I think they are great. But, during peak season - :sad2:.

Because the moderate resorts are more spread out and have quiet pools, I think they give the impression of being less crowded.

I do agree that SSR and OKW are very spread out and nice during crowded times. I stayed at SSR in June of 08 and Kidani in June of 09 (both mod to heavy crowd levels) and I found them to be equally relaxing. Oh yeah - I also stayed at SSR during Thanksgiving (heavy crowds) and still found it relaxing.

I think we'd probably be able to give a little more advice if you could give us more information. Do you have a certain budget in mind? How many are in your travel party and their ages?

For sheer relaxation during 'peak periods'.. I don't think even the lake side 4th floor at a value would cut it..

At the moderates, those that are a bit more spread out leave you feeling less 'congested'... as such, CSR and CBR immediately spring to mind. POR/POFQ have their fans and probably would be alright but if its a true 'peak period' .. that may feel busier than Coronado Springs or Caribbean Beach.

As for the Deluxes.. even when the Poly is hopping busy... I still feel very relaxed there. :)

My vote for most relaxing is Kidani village. Many places to relax, sit back and watch the animals. There is a library with very comfortable that also overlooks the savannah. And sitting outside by the fire pit in a rocking chair at night after dinner is extremely relaxing. SSR also very relaxing, but I found it kind of boring. If you are looking for a great spa though, SSR is supposed to have one of the best.

I wholeheartedly agree - except at the pool which gets jam packed :crowded:

Sounds really nice. We are staying at Kidani for the first time in just under 100 days and I can't wait :cloud9:

You didn't say anything about a budget, but if you can swing it I would recommend the Polynesian which has a very relaxed vibe to it, especially at night. When the torches are lit and the music is playing, there's a unique quality about it. Late at night one of my standard routines is to use the quiet pool and just soak and relax. Even sitting by a table by the quiet pool late at night having a beer is pretty damn cool. No one ever bothers you and it's usually very quiet for being a Disney resort. I also have had some very good times at the Animal Kingdom lodge and at night the resort takes on another feel. It's pretty big so it can hold a lot of guests without everyone being on top of each other. I would take the advice about staying far away from the value resorts during this time period.:scared1:

I would agree with Old Key West. It is very quiet there and spread out. I have heard that SSR is the same way. Having a 1 BR would make it even more relaxing. At SSR you can walk to DTD so that would give you some peace away from mobbed buses.

I find that AKL is the most relaxing - it's such a warm, inviting enviroment - I feel so cozy and comfy there - it's just peaceful. That's why we puchased DVC there........... I'm sure Kidani is a close second........ we haven't stayed there yet!!

Obviously, I can only speak from my personal experience which has been CBR, ASMus, ASMov, Pop, and POFQ. I would agree with avoiding the values. I have to say that we stayed at POFQ over JULY 4th :-)scared1:) last year and it was awesome!!! Never once did we feel like there were a lot of people. It was extremely quiet and actually felt empty. I'm sure it has something to do with having so few rooms for a Disney resort! I have not stayed at a deluxe yet but I will be staying at AKL this June (my DREAM resort) and I have been there for dinner and I feel like it probably has a very relaxed feel!

I would think that OKW or YC would be quietest. Everytime I've been at those resorts they seem dead.

We have stayed at YC in mid-August and it was pretty quiet and relaxing. Also stayed in PC in September for anniversary and it was noisy and crowded. Last November, Thanksgiving weekend til 12/3, we stayed POR and it was very quiet and relaxing. I would definately stay away from the value resorts at peak times, but the moderate resorts seem to meet the needs for relaxation and rest.

I think SSR and OKW are the most relaxing. We have stayed at both several times and t always found ourselves feeling like we had a retreat to return to. Still lots of fun things to do and you have the boats to DTD to take you to all that action but the expansive grounds, multiple pools and low key atmopsheres at both made both never feel crowded even when they were sold out. Which contrary to popular belief does happen at both frequently.

SSR has the spa and Turf Club which I think is one of the best restaurants and for sure the best kept secret for Disney full serve dining. You can dine on their patio with a nice view of DTD and feel unrushed without all the hoopla of other resorts.

Resorts near parks are great for their proximity to the action, but the downside is you get so many non guests who come over to eat, check it out and view fireworks. You feel like you the paying guest are in the minoirty sometimes of who is actually there!

Having a one bedroom at either resort would give you plenty of space, a place to cook if you wanted to dine in or just a place to store things like wine and beer and snacks. The balconies almost always have a nice view and the jacuzzi tub, DVD players, your own laundry, all make it very easy to just relax in your unit as much as you want. Some OKW units are close to main roads so if you go with that, study a map and request a building away from that. SSR is my favorite resort, I've stayed in all sections and every one offered me peace and quiet but with a pool and bus stop just yards away. And at SSR, you can sit in the rockers near the quiet pool in Congress Park and look out over the river with a great view of DTD and watch the boats go by. I love that!

Good luck, all WDW resorts offer something and most all of them have some quiet nooks and crannies to escape in.
