Has anyone been to the Beach Club recently since Art left?
Not that he could ever truly be replaced, but has anyone taken over the mantle? Or is Beach Club simply "sans greeter" ? If someone has, how are they?

Who is Art?
How can one person change a resort's atmosphere?:confused3

Art The Greeter was, well a greeter. But he was super enthusiastic and greeted every single person coming into the Beach Club with such charm and pep. He treated everyone with equal excitement no matter what age they were and when he retired late last year, I think a lot of people were sad to see him go.

We were never at the Beach Club when Art was there. But Teena is a greeter there and she is great! She even posts on the Beach Club thread.

We visited the lobby a few times when we stayed at BWV. We saw an older gentlemen with white hair and a white mustache. He was very distinguished and very nice. Different from Art, but definitely worked in the atmosphere. I wish I caught his name, but I didn't. I watched him for a while though and he was really good.

They're still rotating - no one has become "The" Beach Club greeter. Not yet, anyway.

I was there last month, and had a nice long visit with Teena. She and Woody are probably the ones who spend the most time in the lobby.

But no one will be "the next Art".

I can't say enough great things about Teena you will love her!! In fact the whole staff at the 2 resorts is just amazing!! We stayed in club level and they were awesome too! We love it there!!

Teena is a fabulous greeter at BC. She's also a wealth of information on the YC/BC thread.

When we stayed at YC there was an older gentleman, I didn't catch his name, who was very nice and very good with the kids.

I can't begin to say enough good things about the cms at both BC and YC. We've stayed in both regular rooms and club level at both resorts and found the staff to be super friendly and super helpful. It just makes the stay fabulous! Now we have trouble staying anywhere else!

Well! though it may not be official, sounds to me like Teena is the "new" Art :) ... I can't wait to meet her next week!!!

Teena is terrific, but I think she (or Woody or anyone else at the BC/YC) would be thoroughly embarrassed if anyone called them "the new Art".

There will never be another Walt Disney, there will never be another Mozart, there will never be another Michael Jordan, and there will never be another Art.

That was one of the first things we noticed after he left. My kids said it first. Over the many years yu just think they are part of the experience because they add so much to it. When we go in May I hope to see Teena as I have heard so many nice things about her and read many of her posts.

We were just there, but didn't make it a point to meet the greeter. I did make a special effort to say a nice hello to the gentleman who was in the lobby (but didn't stop to chat), just because I was thinking to myself what big shoes the new greeter(s) had to fill!

It did seem different without Art and we haven't even stayed there that many times. But I'm so glad we made sure to get a photo with Art on our prior trip, since he retired before we had a chance to return.

I hope he's enjoying his retirement immensely.

It seemed alot different without him when we went this past December. In fact my 6 yr old remembered him and asked me where he was. There was no one greeting a few times we past thru the lobby, not sure if that is because the lobby was busy with all the people looking at the Christmas Carousel or this is how it is now

Art was a Beach Club icon, he was a truly a very nice ,pleasant man .He was the greeter at the BC resort that would gladly spend time just chatting .He always made everyone feel welcome, and always had a smile.

Just love Teena :cloud9: - she typically works just a couple of days a week.

If Woody (who we have met at YC in the past) is working BC lobby, ask him about hidden Mickeys. A couple of years ago we did this with him at YC and he was a wealth of information about YC & BC hidden Mickeys :thumbsup2 Really made it fun for my older boys.

You are right, and I did not mean it that way and would never have said that to her in person. I guess I was just happy to hear that someone with lots of motivation and love for Disney has been placed as greeter at the BC. I do apologize to Teena ( since she's on the boards ) for making it sound like she is a "replacement". She sounds like a wonderful addition to the BC.

You are so right about how he loved to chat with the guests. We saw him for the first (and only time) last March. I was start struck when we I saw him (my kids and DH didn't quite understand, but realized after we got done talking to him). We talked a great length about how he loved his job and he also told us what he did before Disney. He was a very interesting man and I am so honored to of met him. We stayed at BC in December and the lobby was not the same, however I know that Teena is doing an excellent job and we unfortunately did not get to meet her that trip. I hope to meet her one day....hopefully when we stay there in May 2011 I will get my chance :goodvibes

Art Rocks!!

When I stayed at the Yacht Club for a work training last March, I was flying through the Beach Club lobby on my way to Epcot and I heard, "Hey there young man, are you too busy to say hello to an old friend?". I turned around and it was Art. I ran over gave him a hug and he said, "So where are your lovely wife and children?" I was shocked. He rememberd my wife, son and daughter from our previous trip a year earlier. Now this is a man who has met thousands of people in his role yet he actually remembered not only me but my wife and kids as well.

I had made a point each day during our trip that previous year for the family to stop and say hello to him each and every time we saw him and I guess that may have made an impression. I was back with the family last April, though we spent that trip at an offisite time share that my in-laws purchased (never, ever again!) and we spent a lot of time at the Beach Club at the Cape May, Beaches and Cream and the Yachtman Steakhouse. We saw Art there twice during our trip. The last time we saw him he was busy helping another family with something and I didn't go up to him since he was busy. I figured we would see him on our way out of the Cape May. When we were done eating he was gone.

That was our last time back to the Beach Club that trip and after hearing that he had retired a few months after that I felt just awful that I never got a chance to say goodbye and thank him for all the wonderful memories he added to our trips just by his presence and the kindness he showed to my family and I. I wish I had taken the time to say hello to him, even though he was busy with others, just to say hello and see how he was.

The Beach Club will always be our special resort but I have to be honest, I don't ever think it will be the same there for us without Art's presence. Even my kids said, when I told them that Art had retired, "It's not going to feel the same now when we visit there".

That statement alone, from 11 and 8 year old children mind you, should tell you everything you ever need to know about Art and the wonderful person he was. He will be sorely missed.

P.S. Raouf, who works with the kids at the pool and the campfire on the beach is a great guy as well. Another asset to the Beach Club and someone I go out of my way to say hello to each trip as well.

That reminds me of a loosely unrelated ( certainly unrelated to Art, but related to that Disney touch ) story.

My son loves the Beatles. And when he was 7, he literally ROCKED OUT in front of the British Invasion at Epcot. So much so that at the end of the show, they declared him "Air Guitar champion".

Fast Forward TWO YEARS, we go back there and they RECOGNIZED him!! And it wasn't an "oh yeah, we remember you". It was "You were the one rocking out with the air guitar!" ... :O ...

I love this place...

Just wanted to clear something up. Teena has worked at BC for six years - she is not the "new Art", she is still Teena the Greeter! Teena chooses to only work part time because she travels a lot. I spoke to Teena earlier and she and another CM Vic are sharing the Greeter duties until they hire someone else. Apparently they have been interviewing for several months but haven't found the right person yet.

Art was wonderful, Teena is fabulous too - but they are not interchangeable. I don't think Teena ever wanted anyone to think of her as the new "Art". She wants to be thought of as Teena - the friendly, helpful cm who greets people at BC.
