Room on Magic just switched from 5000 to 6020

Should I be happy? Its still Pixie Dust, since we booked a Cat 11 GTY, but I'm surprised we got switched 10 days out.

You're right we're definitely happy to be getting out of the cold of Wisconsin regardless of the room. Probably just more curious if 6020 is an improvement over 5000. There weren't any room reviews on wdinfo.com and it is a connecting room.

Looking at the deck plans, 6020 is not a connecting room. Personally, I think it's an improvement. You're a little further back rather than being the most forward room. You're closer to the elevators. And you now have a floor of rooms between you and the Walt Disney Theatre where you were above it in your original location. Not to mention that you paid for an 11 standard inside room and you got a three-category upgrade to a Cat 8 Oceanview room with the split bath and a large porthole! Can I guess that you're a first time cruiser on DCL? Those three category upgrades are generally only given to first timers!!

With GTY, they can, and sometimes do, change your room assignment right up to the point you check in at the terminal.

Actually, its our 5th cruise. We've stayed in a Cat 10, 9, 8, and 4 previously. This is our first upgrade. You're right its not a connecting, I guess I didn't look at the map correctly. With it not being a connecting room, it definitely looks like an improvement.

Thanks for information.

Wow! You may be the first non-first timer that I've heard of getting a 3cat upgrade. Way to go! And welcome to the DIS!

Halls is right...I've typically seen upgrades going to people on their first or second cruise. Maybe I'm due for some real pixie dust. I don't count 12 to 11....or 9 gty to 8 as "real" pixie dust.

A 3 category upgrade is a jewel--enjoy!

You got a really great upgrade - congrats!! :yay:

My sister just got her docs this evening and DCL moved one of their two connecting Cat 6 cabins (not guarantee cabins, either...they'd booked assigned cabins to ensure they had connecting cabins) Now, they've put them on opposite ends of the deck from each other and it wasn't for an upgrade or anything...they're not happy about it, but I think the ship was full, so I'm not sure they'll be able to even do anything about it now.

We must be extra lucky then... we've been upgraded 4 out of 6 cruises...

1) booked cat 12 got cat10 (not a huge upgrade, but still nice -- only a family of 3)
2) booked cat 7 got cat 7
3) booked cat 8 got cat 8
4) booked cat 7 got cat 4
5) booked cat 12 got cat 9 (on deck 2 large porthole)
6) booked cat 6 got cat 4

It's not just getting an upgrade, but it's the 3 category upgrade that's unusual. Looks like you've gotten 2 of them on your 6 cruises so that's great! Gives hope for the rest of us!!

My family of 7 was on the Magic in January. We booked 3 cat 11's in a row.
We were upgraded to 3 cat 8's IN A ROW! :cool1: Boy were we SHOCKED! None of us were first-timers, various # of Disney cruises from 3rd to 10th.

I am going on my 5th DC next Thursday and we got the same upgrade! Maybe it's a goodbye to silver hello to gold upgrade! LOL!
