Arriving 5/13 for 5/15 11 day. Need a reasonable hotel for 2 adults. What is the area near the port called? Do you take a taxi from airport and if so how much? Do any hotels offer free transportation from airport to hotel and then from hotel to port?

There are a bunch of us that are at the Praktik Ramblas and Praktik Barcelona (google will find them). They are reasonably priced. There is also a Holiday Inn Express in the business district that is very reasonable.

None of them offer transport to and from the airport or the port - t would all be by cab (or very larg bus for those of us on the WBTA :lmao:). From what I have read a taxi will be about $30 us from the airport to the Praktik Ramblas or HIE. The Praktik barcelona is just a few blocks away, so probably close in price. You can also take the train (we are actually considering this...)

Have a great time!

I'm staying at the Marriott Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel, and it's pretty reasonably priced. They have a free shuttle to and from the airport, and to and from downtown. They also have a reasonably priced shuttle to Las Ramblas (6 euro per person) and a pre-arranged shuttle to the port (it's 10 euros per adult and 5 euros per child).

The area near the port is called Barceloneta. If you are staying for more than the day before your return home, you may prefer to stay closer to Placa Catalunya since that is the transportation hub and also closer to many of the sites and restaurants than the port. You can catch the train or Aerobus to the airport from Placa Catalunya.

Even if you stay in Barceloneta, you may not want to drag your luggage from the ship to the hotel, so you will probably want to take a taxi anyway. DH and I are also staying at the Praktik Ramblas along with many other WBTA cruisers.

Bengals01,

Come join us on the Cruise Meets board. We've got a large group of dis'ers signed up for the 5/15 sailing!

The Novotel is where we will be staying for the May 26th cruise. It is brand new and opens March 1, 2010. It is in the diagonal area and will have to take a taxi from the hotel to the port. Rates are great at $125 per night!!

Hope that helps!

Do you know where this is in relation to Las Ramblas? It looks nice...please come back & post how it works out! I don't know anything yet about the various sections of the city for sightseeing etc.

You bet! There are about 4 or 5 families on the May 26th cruise who plan on staying at the Novotel. I looked it up on google earth and sure enough it is new still under construction in the photos. It is on Avendida Diagonal and doesn't look far from the port. We have a website for this cruise and I'm planning on blogging before, during and after the cruise, so you can go here: http://muchomagico.weebly.com/ and subscribe either by newsfeed or email to receive my blog updates if you would like!!

:thanks: What a fantastic website ya'll have!! Thank you for sharing! I am impressed! You have so much useful info. on there! I love how you put all the links even for currency conversion. So handy. Is eveyone from your group staying at one of the hotels you have the links for? They all look quite nice & reasonable too.:thumbsup2 I will be watching for reviews from all of your peeps!! :thumbsup2

I am studying everyone who's going this summer for hints, tips & tricks!! We orig. booked one of the cancelled 10 night Meds for Aug. 2011. We flipped back to the last one offered in July 2011 when those were cancelled but then just last week switched again back to August to one of the 7 night ones. We hated to give up on the 10 night (Tunisia & Malta in particular) but August is a better month for us to vacation AND DH's engine blew up in his car in January and the final repair bill topped $7,000!!! That was kind of the last straw for us and I said something's gotta give. Dropping the extra nights was a substantial savings and will help pay for the private tours we hope to do in Italy. We also plan to spend at least 3 nights in Paris and 3 nights in Barcelona pre- and post- cruise. (Not sure which one first yet. Weighing those options now.)
