Questions about evening swimming in September

On our last trip we went from 9/18-9/26. After putting DS to bed (usually around 8pm) we would sometimes take turns going to sit by the pool etc. I remember that there were always people swimming, but that I was chilly in capri pants and short sleeve shirts. So for me, I would not have gone swimming at that time. I really can't remember what the temps felt like from around 6pm-8pm.

I am wondering if it will be feasible to go swimming during that 6-8 timeframe or if it will seem too cold to me. Not only will it be a little earlier in the day, but we are also going earlier in the month if that makes a difference - 9/4-9/12. We bumped up from a value to a mod this year and the pool looks great, so would like to get use out of it. We have an afternoon we are scheduling to stay at the resort, but I would like more time. Most days we plan to have a 5pm dinner in the parks and then leave. I thought that time after that but before bed would be a good time for swimming if the temps are not too cold. Any other chilly people (like me) find that time to swim OK? You would think being from Chicago I would handle being cold better, lol.

You must have been there during a freak cold spell, because Sept is HOT - certainly not cold... :confused3

We were there from 9/19-9/27 in 2008 and I think we swam 2 evenings but I remember one evening being way too cold for me to swim..although my husband and kids did....

This was in 2008. Temps at around 9pm were probably around 75° with a breeze. I would have felt comfortable without the breeze (not for swimming, just for being outside) - with the breeze I had goosebumps.

I usually go for a swim late night (9-10:30)before going to bed.
The air is a bit chilly sometimes, but the water is usually very nice.
It helps to stretch out and relax a little before climbing into bed.

HA! We were probably one of those crazy families in the pool. LOL We were there in 2008 from Sept 17-25. I do remember a couple of those evenings, especially towards the end of our stay, being on the chilly side. The day we left it was actually kind of cold in the morning (mid 60's) and my kids STILL insisted on one last swim before the ME bus picked us up.

Even they didn't last longer than 20 minutes that day.

FWIW, I'm sure people with more experience will tell you, that's not a common occurance in FL even in Sept. Last year we were there a little later (Sept 30-Oct 8). Our first night it was chilly, but the rest of the week was hot. 95 degrees August hot! We were at the pool every day at some point and usually after the parks as well.

regards

75 degrees and breezy for me is paradise. :rotfl:

Me too! :thumbsup2 My perfect weather. Anything above 80 and I'm sweating.

Now, we do go to WDW in the summers because DH is a teacher. I go knowing that I'm going to sweat my butt off. We also leave the parks after lunch to swim and don't go back to parks until after dinner. I still sweat like crazy. I'm a true northern girl. :)

Oh my. I just went from 9/26-10/3 and it was nice and warm in the evenings. We didn't go in the water, but we put our feet in and it was nice. You can definitely swim in the evenings in Sept.

OK, so a couple of other people were there at the same time I was and said there were a couple of chilly nights - that makes me feel a little less crazy, lol! I know that is warm enough to most people (75°ish) but not me. I'm not really a fan of swimming if it's less than 80°.

So, I'm thinking if sunset is around 7:30pm (I checked) that time of year and we go from around 6:30-7:30 I should be OK? Or maybe it really was colder on a few nights and that is just what I am rememebering so I should still be OK for the most part?

I am definitely not a true northerner - I was born in the wrong climate! I loathe winter and don't go outside unless absolutely necessary these days.

Well if 75 was cold to you you would think me(12 then) and my sister(15 then) are crazy:rolleyes1. Our first trip in 92 was over Christmas and our last day the two of us went to Typhoon Lagoon while my parents packed. The lifeguards were wrapping towels around themselves with a couple jackets on and stocking caps:rotfl:.

It was 67 degrees and a couple of them told us we were nuts when we were floating on the lazy river. Then they asked where we were from and we said Washington, then they said DC? When we said no Washington State they said oh your not nuts, Washington State was all over the national news because we were having a big blizzard hit that week:rotfl2:. I went in the pool at the Beach Club every night that trip unitl midnight too.:lmao:

BTW we go at the end of Nov. beginning of Dec. usually and we almost always go to a waterpark and we always go in our resort pool

Agreeing with the above poster. One year, I remember swimming at Port Orleans Riverside in the evening in February!!! The air temp was below 60º, but the water was fine - and yes, it was snowing back home in Massachusetts :)

At this time last year we were in WDW; when we left Cleveland it was -2 degrees. When we arrived in Orlando it was a chilly 75 and breezy. :goodvibes

Two days later we were relaxing in SAB with the temps in the upper 70's when we kept getting texts and photos on our cell phones from our neighbor showing us the 15 inches of snow they were getting back home in a huge snow storm. I must admit, I almost felt sorry for them as I basked in the sun. :rotfl2:
