A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Hi Kathy! I've been sporadically following your updates via your handy dandy links but missing the chatter in between. I'm caught up now so I can finally delurk. Your report is fabulous! I love the chapters... I feel like I'm reading a really good book.

*hand creeping up slowly* I remember Hamburglar and Grimace. *hand still raised* I've not yet had a Dole Whip either.

My favorite part of HM is the dancing banquet scene. I usually ride with Ariana and she always does her bounce of joy when she watches them dance. :goodvibes

*The Phineas and Ferb song talks about "One hundred and four days of summer vacation." :confused3 What kid gets that anymore?? Did they ever?

Kathy

Morgan got very upset when I told him that we didn't get 104 days of summer! He was going around singing it all the time last summer. We had 79 days last year~ all of June, all of July, 1 week in May, and 1 week in August

104 seems crazy!! That would be more than 3 months!

Okay, caught up.

The best advice I got for the party was to do rides during the first parade. We rode the HM with almost no wait (this wasn't Halloween night though~ it was October 13) and a little bit later walked by and saw the line was out into Liberty Square!

I love the Mickey parts costumes. My favorite costumes that we saw were people dressed as the Flintstones. They looked adorable and they looked cool (as in temperature not Fonzie.) It was hot and steamy that night, and I was jealous of them!

OH, Hallowishes and the Boo to You parade. Two of my FAVORITE things we did on our trip!

no dole whip float???? i am a little disappointed but i i'll forgive you. ;)
i need to pay more attention after poohs ride, i never noticed the smell of honey. a dis meet sounds really fun, cant wait to read more.
....and yes i do remember the the fry guys, hamburgler, birdie, grimace, my mcdonalds had a play place with all of them but my hubby and i always fight because i don't remember mayor mccheese at all, thanks to google i know he exists but i just dont remember him at all. oh well

It's so funny you mentioned the Phineas and Ferb song...Every time I hear it I remind my boys that they get nowhere near 104 days for summer vacation! They get out in the last week of June and go back the week of Labor day. I went to school in Pennsylvania and we got out in early June, but I never remember getting a full week in February like my boys do.

I so remember Grimace and Hamburglar...as well as the little Fry Guys! Too funny!! :lmao:

My family loves the Haunted Mansion too! We got to enjoy it in the dark for the first time this past April...so cool! I think my favorite new addition is the ghostly footsteps going up the stairs....it may not be new, but I just noticed them this past trip. :confused3

Mmmmm...Ice cream! It just tastes better at WDW I think!

Cool that you were able to have a DisMeet during the party....love the pic!

Can't wait to hear about Hallowishes and the Parade! :thumbsup2

I had my first dole whip float this last trip - I generally don't bother with dessert if chocolate isn't involved, but I did really enjoy the float! Great update - I'm excited to hear how you liked Hallowishes!

Definitely remember Hamburgler and Grimace! What? Are they not around anymore? :confused3

As someone who tried Dole Whip on my last trip, I say you weren't missing much - especially if you're not crazy about pineapple. :rolleyes1 I love fresh pineapple, but a few bites of Dole Whip and I was over it. Maybe the float would be different, but I haven't tried that yet.

Forgetting the camera battery is definitely something I have done before.

Don't worry about not bringing a gift. I was happy to make them for you guys and they weren't too hard to make. The hardest part was deciding what sizes to buy and I am still wondering if they fit??

Here is a picture of the shirts that I took when I finished making them.

It was my first Dis-Meet ever and I have to say we had a great time with your family! Catie and Tricia are so sweet! I hope Abby is as nice a teenager as they are. They were so kind and patient with Billy, I was very impressed.

I can't wait to read more. . .:surfweb:

I remember the Hamburgler and Grimace!:rolleyes1 I worked at McDonald's when I was in High School.

Love, love, love the t-shirts, Nancy! How did you do it?

I was determined to try a Dole whip last October. It was sizzling and we got the kids ice cream at the shop on Main st. Matt and I wanted floats so he ran over to Aloha Isle. The kids and I sat in front of Caseys waiting for him.

It wasn't long before I see him running towards us with two, dripping, running ice creams! He had forgotten about the floats and ordered regular dole whips. I don't think I ever ate something so fast!

He was a sticking mess. Luckily we were close to a bathroom so he could clean up.

Oh, thanks Nancy!! I'm so glad you've got a picture of the shirts to share... I was not too thrilled at the idea of rummaging through the closet to find them!! :goodvibes (They are packed away with our other short-sleeved Disney shirts.)

Everyone, aren't they cute?

And yes, they all fit!

I will be finishing the rest of our DIS-meet in my next installment...

Kathy

I knew about the shirt surprise ahead of time..I feel so "in the know" ;) :rotfl2: Don't fret about not bringing gifts. I'm horrible about that too! I'll be better prepared on the next trip!

Great update. All that park crossing would have driven me nuts. What a good mommy for you to do that!!!

I remember Grimace and the gang as well. Guess we are the old folks :rolleyes1

How did I never notice that you can smell honey at the end of Winnie the Pooh???

12 trips to WDW and I've never had a Dole Whip either:eek: I actually never even knew what it was untill I joined the Dis:scared1: I like pinapple, but I don't eat too much in the parks because I like to save room for the big dinners I have at disney

Can't wait for morepopcorn::

I feel better... it seemed almost sacraligious to choose something else!

I am intimately familiar with the bounce of joy! Especially at WDW!

I'm sure that the HM was the most popular ride that night, hands down!

So sorry I didn't get a picture of those costumes (and of the hot dog group too!)

Kathy

Great installment, good for you being able to switch gears. I would have wanted character pictures too. We have never been in the stretching room of the HM, can't get the wheelchair in there. I really enjoy reading about it though :rotfl:.

We had our first Dole Whip float in Nov. 2009 and Bill talks about it on a weekly basis, he wants another. Sounds like you had a great DIS meet. I loved the t shirts. I can't wait to read more.

You definitely need to try the Dole Whip or the Dole Whip Float. They're really both great! That, along with the corn dog nuggets are my favorites to eat in Magic Kingdom. I'm sure the CM would give you a sample to try? Maybe? The counter service place at the Poly also sells Dole Whip.

Dreamer and Wisher: Those shirts are too cute! Great job!

I will have to try one next time... and if I don't like it, I'm sure I can convince someone to finish it for me!
