20th September 2009 = Day 13

Well this morning I was wide awake at 4.30am!!!! :faint: I was so excited as it was finally Cruise day! I stayed in bed listening to my ipod so that I didn’t wake Lee too early, then I got showered and woke him up about 8am. Lee got showered & dressed whilst I put the last few bits in the suitcase. I had arranged for the rest of our luggage to be transferred to the Polynesian, although at this point Lee still thought we were staying at Saratoga Springs after the cruise but I had upgraded us months ago & managed to keep it a surprise. ;) The bell boy arrived and took the luggage, thankfully as I had pre arranged it with the desk yesterday the guy didn’t even ask about the resort so no issues there.

We walked up to Hospitality House with the case & holdall that we needed for the cruise & waited on a bench for the FL Tours town car to arrive that I booked to transfer us to Port Canaveral, he soon arrived & by 9.45am we were on our way to the Port. :cool1: It was an uneventful journey, Lee read his book & I enjoyed looking out the window, getting even more excited for every DCL bus that I saw going back towards WDW, I did start to count them at one point but haven’t made a note of how many but would guess at least 15!

We eventually arrived, after much squealing with excitement from me at the first site of the Wonder all the way down into the Port :teeth:, I think the driver definitely earned his tip that day having to listen to me Ooooh’ing & Arrrhh’ing. We dropped off our luggage then headed into the terminal after the documents were checked over. In my excitement (I was resembling a cross between Tigger & the Cheshire Cat) I forgot to take some photo’s of the outside of the building, never mind there’s always next time. ;) We went inside and up the escalator where we were directed to the check in desk.
We were called straight over to an available desk where the Cast Member checked us in, unfortunately at this point he asked us where we were staying after the cruise  I stumbled & had a look of sheer panic when Lee chipped in with “Saratoga Springs”…..:headache: I looked at the guy & shook my head as I said we’re actually staying at the Polynesian. Lee looked at me & laughed then gave me a big kiss & thanked me for the lovely surprise. It was not how I planned on telling him but never mind he was still pleased we would be staying there…..I think it took a matter of seconds before he asked “Do they have Hot Chocolate at the Poly????” :lmao:

Anyway we were soon all checked in and left the desk with our Stateroom Keys (#7070) along with our dining rotation (Animators Palate/Parrot Cay/Parrot Cay/Tritons) & the all important boarding card (Number 10). We went over to have our security photo taken then wondered around taking lots of pics & admiring the large model of the Magic in the middle of the terminal.

The ears we were desperate to walk through:

I loved all the things on the floor:

There was a huge queue for Captain Mickey, which we waited in for ages but a Cast Member came around & told us that Mickey would be taking a break so doubted we would get to have our pic taken. We decided to leave the queue & go outside on the balcony to see the ship close up, however before we went out I needed to use the restroom. Whilst I was washing my hands I heard someone say “Are you Claire?” I turned round and it was Linda. Linda was the main person other than myself who kept our cruise meet thread here on the DIS going, we also keep in contact on Facebook. We had a quick chat and said our goodbye’s as we were meeting up at 3pm in the Promenade lounge with some other DISers.

I met back up with Lee who was very concerned if I was ok as I was in the rest room for quite a while. (Although I should add that Linda & I were chatting outside of the Rest room but Lee couldn’t see me from where he was waiting).

We went outside to get some pics of the ship….

IMG_1180.jpg

When we went back inside Captain Mickey had been replaced by Chip & Dale, however the staff looked as though they were getting ready to start the boarding process so we didn’t bother to queue but I did sneak around to get a photo of them.

IMG_1192.jpg

Eventually they called Boarding Card number 10!!! :yay: We walked through the ears, had our photo taken & then up the ramp on to the Wonder. I asked Lee to film with the video camera as we boarded (I knew what was going to happen ;) ) and as we walked onto the ship we heard…..”Welcome aboard the Disney Wonder, the Maguire family” and all the crew clapped and cheered, it was a lovely welcome. We were then directed towards Parrot Cay for the buffet lunch. We were told that all the tables for two were full & they only had spaces for eight so we shared a table with a family of four & another couple. We were seated & had our drinks order taken, I started with a Bahama Mama & Lee had a coke, we helped ourselves to the buffet (sorry I forgot to take photos) I hardly ate anything as I am a fussy eater plus I was too excited, so I stuck to the cocktails. ;)

After lunch we headed up onto Deck 10 & had a walk around looking at all the pools etc, at 1.30pm we decided to go & find our stateroom as we should be allowed in them now. It was a lovely room, in general it was bigger than I expected (other than the toilet & bathroom which were a little on the small size). Whilst we were waiting for our luggage to be delivered we took lots of photos.

Lee was surprised as I had ordered some gifts to be in our room on arrival. We had some Bon Voyage banners….

Some Choccies & Champers:

I also ordered this as I wanted the beach bag for our Castaway Cay day.

IMG_1238.jpg

Our luggage still hadn’t arrived by 2.55pm so we got ready to go to the Promenade lounge for the 3pm DIS meet. When we opened the door to leave our luggage was sat outside the room. We assumed they would knock on the door or something, anyway we bought them in and as Lee lifted the small holdall up I saw liquid running out of the bottom of it. :scared: Stupidly when packing our stuff I had put a can of coke in the bag thinking we would drink it on the way to the Port & totally forgot about it when we arrived & offloaded our bags.

Thankfully it was a bag full of toiletries, shoes, belts etc & not our clothes. However we couldn’t just go out & leave it as it was leaking all over the floor so we quickly emptied it & I wiped all the items whilst Lee rinsed the bag under the shower and scrubbed the carpet. Once that was sorted we headed out to the meet arriving about 15 mins late, unfortunately some had already left & the group photo had been taken. :guilty: However we said hello to those that were still there but after 10 mins everyone left as over the tannoy they had began to announce the muster drill would be taking place shortly so we went back to the room and grabbed our life jackets then assembled at the meeting point on Deck 4. Once that was over we dropped the life jackets back in the room & grabbed our camera’s then went up to Deck 10 ready for the sail away party, our timing was great as just as we arrived they came around with more cocktails :cool1: this time I had a Pina Colada.

Our cruise director was Christiaan, he came out on the stage with Captain Mickey & Minnie. Along with the entertainment staff & some other characters, everyone had a little dance & eventually we sailed out of the Port.

IMG_1291.jpg

As we past the Carnival Ship (Freedom of the Seas) it sounded it’s horn, then our ship replied with ours….”When you wish upon a star”, everyone cheered, then the Carnival ship did it again, and we replied with ours, this went on several times and eventually Carnival gave up. We filmed this on our video camera so I will try to figure out how to upload it to YouTube and post the link.

Waving goodbye to everyone as we head out to sea…

We went back to our state room & unpacked our clothes. I also decorated our door with the magnets I made & our fish extender. Lee thought these were fab as he didn’t know I had made them.

IMG_1319.jpg

We sat on our verandah for a while and relaxed with a glass of wine watching the pretty sky change colour as the sun began to set. :cloud9:

IMG_1339.jpg

I later realised that we were missing the Golden Mickeys show  but I wasn’t too sad as we had spent some lovely time just relaxing. We got showered and changed for dinner which was at Animators Palate, I love the way the restaurant changes colour throughout the evening.

IMG_1353.jpg

We were seated at a table for four & after a few minutes we were joined by our table mates, Chris & Raylyn from Hawaii. We chatted away with them like we’d known them for years, they were such a sweet couple. Chris had just returned from a year in Iraq, he is a Sergeant in the Marine’s with the logistics core, which he lovingly referred to as “Bullets & Beans”.

Our servers shortly joined us to introduce themselves. We had Kate from Adelaide, Australia & Balwan from India, they were fabulous throughout the whole cruise.

Here is a pic of us with Chris & Raylyn. (It taken on the last night & it's a bit fuzzy as the camera was on the wrong setting)

I have to apologise in advance as I didn’t take any food pictures, I totally forgot. Lee & I both had the Mushroom Risotto to start which was delicious, for main course I had Beef Tenderloin with came with Wasabi mash potatoes, I would usually change for fries or plain mash potato but as it was the first night I didn’t want to be known as the picky eater. :lmao: Well I am so glad I didn’t as the Wasabi mash was so yummy!!!!! Lee had veal chop, red roasted pots & mixed vegetables which he enjoyed. I had ice cream for dessert & Lee had lemon soufflé followed by coffee.

After dinner we went for a walk around the ship, firstly to the lobby. I love the glass flower sculpture hanging from the ceiling. I commented to Lee at the time that reminded me of some of the sculptures in both the Atlantis hotel (in the Bahamas) & also the Bellagio (in Las Vegas) by Dale Chihuly, in fact it was the same artist as I looked it up on the internet when we got home.

IMG_1345.jpg

IMG_1343.jpg

Afterwards we went to check out the two merchandise shops, Mickey’s Mates & Treasure Ketch. I was dying to get some DCL goodies. ;) I bought a Photo album, DCL scrapbook & set of scrapbook papers, a picture of the ship & characters along with a few DCL tree decorations.

(On our at sea day I went to the guest services desk and gave them some of the items I had bought for the characters to sign. They were returned all signed later in the evening to our room.)

We took the shopping back to our room where we were met by this fabulous guy who had taken a shine to my sunglasses.

IMG_1356.jpg

We dropped off the shopping and went up to Deck 10 for a nice romantic stroll in the gentle breeze and the bright glow of the moon.

It was the perfect end to a perfect day. :cloud9:

Coming Up – Day 14 = We finally return to the scene of the crime. ;)

ETA - here's the magnet, you can see how big it is by comparing it with the handle.

Woohoo !! It's Cruise time, and what a FAB-U-LOUS day you had. I've just said to Paul how similar our photos are, it's just so easy to take tons of photos on the Disney Wonder. I love all the stateroom gifts you bought too (I've never done that before)

I can't wait to read your next installment ::yes::

OMG!!! YES!!! I can't believe I didn't see the similarity... :headache:

The other two I posted aren't as obvious it's the same artist but the blue one is very similar.

Here is the lobby in the Bellagio which is also of the same style. (Not my pic BTW)

Oooh gorgeous!!!

I have had the Bellagio on my list of places to stay for ages but DH doesn't fancy Las Vegas or some such rubbish!!!   Ah well, some day...

I think Dale Chihuly uses Murano glass techniques which I love - we have the most stunning Murano light fitting to install (post building work, naturally)... :goodvibes

Great day Claire. I was looking earlier today at the stuff you can order and I wasn't going to bother but now I've seen your photo I think I'm going to have to order some of those chocolates. :thumbsup2

Woohoo, you're cruising. :)

What a great day. I love the package, what great value and it makes the room look all festive. :)

I've never fancied going on a cruise, but hubby has said a few times it's something he'd like to try, it wasn't until I started reading this board about the Disney Wonder that it started to appeal to me. I think I might be sold now :rotfl: He will be pleased.

Thanks for posting. Can't wait to read the rest. :)

Ohhhhhh Claire, what a fantastic day-i was so excited reading it :cool1:.I must admit though as much as it looks wonderful,it's something i would never do because of my fear of water :sad2:.
Your pictures are amazing and i love all the little extra's you got for the room.Such a shame about the suprise having to come out-after keeping it to yourself for so long. Can't wait for the next instalment.x.

We haven't stayed at the Bellagio but spent quite a while exploring it. It is a fabulous resort, if, actually when we get back to Vegas I think it will be our first choice of hotel.

Can't wait to see your Murano light, sounds fab. :thumbsup2

Great day Claire. I was looking earlier today at the stuff you can order and I wasn't going to bother but now I've seen your photo I think I'm going to have to order some of those chocolates. :thumbsup2

They were very nice David, I loved the boxes too as they have little Mickey heads all over them.

You should definately give it a go. We opted for the 4 night so we could see if we liked it....you can probably already guess we loved it without me even saying that we have two more booked for next year.

Thanks hun, I hope to have another one up tomorrow or Monday. Just need to finish sorting out the pics for it.

What are you afraid of? Getting sea sick or just water in general?

WOW WOW WOW .... what an amazing day! There is absolutely nothing like that amazing feeling when you board one of the DCL ships. I love your stateroom gifts ... and your magnets are amazing. (don't suppose you have a template of the Mickey heads with the Mickey / Minnie pirates on ... would love to surprise DH with those) Reading about your embarkation day and looking at those wonderful photos brings it all back ... and is making me even more excited for September :yay::yay::yay::yay:
