Im having a party. Its a game/movie night type of thing. I need some ideas for simple things I can make to serve that arnt too messy since the kids tend to disapear to the carpeted living room with the food (while the grown ups play dirty scrable). Any advice? Budget freindly would be great!
Please note that this depends on the age and 'sitdownability' of your kids, but we did this alot growing up:
We would make a big batch of cheese dip, cover the entire coffee table with paper towels, dump handfuls of chips in our 'spot' and proceed to pig out, usually during Monday Night Football. Kids would LOVE this because it's SO not healthy and you get to eat right off of the table!
Granted, if your kids are spillers, or they are rambunctious and run around more than hunker down to watch a movie, this isn't for you!
Cheese dip Party
1 brick (I think we used 2lb) Velveeta (original, not lofat or anything fancy)
1 can Ro-Tel (again, original, but now they have diced so you do not get big HUNKS of tomatos).
2-4 Types fo chips (we favored Doritos and Fritos)
Nuke the cheese until almost completely melted as directed on package (don't add milk or anything). Add Rotel and continue to nuke in 1 minute increments until a smooth dip has been acheived.
Cover the ENTIRE coffee table with paper towels.
Put the entire bowl of dip in the middle of the table so everyone can reach it. To make sure everyone can reach AND so that there is no mess, everyone should sit on the floor indian-style around the table.
Each person grab a handful (or two) of chips and put it on the paper towel in front of them.
Dip, eat, repeat!
