What exactly is Disney publishing worldwide? Bookdrive questions for GAD

We have two or three of us who are going to sign up for the book drive. It says any book published by Disney Publishing worldwide.

I have enough Disney books to use, but they are all published by different publishers. All are Disney though.

Is anyone else doing the book drive?

I also don't understand why they need customs forms if we are mailing them to Virginia.

Thanks,

Dawn

I don't understand what you are talking about. Book drive? Disney? Eh??? This is something for the Give a day thing? I'd love to know more..my closest volunteer place is 85 miles away and with no details..all to be announced.

I don't know anything about the book drive but I can answer questions about the Disney Publishing.
There is a publishing arm of Disney called Disney Publishing Worldwide. It is comprised of a number of imprints including Hyperion. I don't know the name of all of their imprints. But they publish a number of books. some related to disney (such as the hannah montana novelizations) but not all are related to disney properties/character, etc. Hyperion also publishes Mo Willems and the Percy Jackson books. These are all part of DIsney Publishing Worldwide.

But many of the books based on DIsney shows, movies, etc are licensed to other publishers. For instance the new Toy Story 3 books? They will be published by Random House. Random House has a licensing agreement with the DIsney movie company to exclusively publish these books. This is also true of the Disney Princess & The Frog books that recently came out.

Again i don't know anything about the book drive but I am 100% certain about the publishing info posted above. I have worked in the publishing industry for over 10 years.

Hope that this helps.

The book drive is part of the Give a Day program, yes. It is Called Story Time from the front lines.

It states in the approved book list that any books published by Disney Publishing Worldwide are acceptable.

I have a lot of Disney books but none say Hyperion or Disney Publishing Worldwide.....so these aren't acceptable?

I don't see a number to call and ask and I did a google search and it just says what the previous poster said.....so, there are indeed books that state clearly that it is from Disney Publishing Worldwide? How would I find a list by them online? I can't find anything!

It says gently used is acceptable.

We are hoping to do 2 or 3 of this one and then 2 or 3 of the used winter coat drive for our 5 get one passes.

Where do you sign up for this one. None of the other GADs in our area are worth it. Many are during work hours or want a 24 hour commitment. We only need to get two this way, so 20 gently used books is doable.

I haven't signed up yet, so I am not sure how I even found it.....I will have to play with it later though as I need to get going for a meeting tonight.

UPDATE!:

I found the email address and just received a reply from the person running it. BTW: I haven't signed up yet, but I think she thinks I have....I do plan to sign at least 2 of us up for this.

here is the email:

Thank you very much for volunteering in this program. It is any Disney book with the Disney Logo on the front, or the books published by the other publishing houses (including the ones you mentioned) but copyrighted by Disney are acceptable. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kindest Regards,

Alexandra

Could you PM me the email address so I can sign us up. I will talk to DH tonight before sending the email.

Does that mean that the Disney books published by Random House are acceptable?

Do you have the link to the winter coat drive? Thanks!

I found the web page where the PDF link came from RIGHT HERE.

It looks like you just follow in the instructions in that are in the PDF and then after you send your books to the USO in Asia, you mail your paperwork to Alexandra at the USO in VA and she'll mail you your verification from Disney to get your free ticket(s).

I posted about the Project Linus blankets we made, but wanted to comment on the books for the USO. My DH is retired Navy and while he was deployed his ship offered to video the sailor/soldier reading books so they could send it home to their children. We personally did this prior to deployment, but the girls loved receiving the video from Dad while he was gone. It really held their attention when it wasn't a book we had. I am glad to see this is an option.

Yes, Random House is acceptable.

The winter coat drive is local to Charlotte, NC, but I think they are doing it some other places too.....you will need to check your local listings.
