A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Chapter 7, continued...

Uwanja Camp is a really fun place… even the two thirteen year-olds enjoyed it more than they had expected. It’s a great place for little non-swimmers to cool off.

There is no kiddie pool at Samawata Springs, but the pool has an expansive zero-entry where many young ‘uns were happily splashing around under the watchful eyes of their parents. These pictures don’t even begin to show how lovely the pool complex is; I promise I will have more pictures from the disposable cameras to show you in the future.

See the girl to the left? She's shooting one of the water guns at her brothers who are shooting water back from up in the observation area. When the Pembe Savanna is finished, kids will be able to look out and see animals... I think there are even stationary binoculars for them to use...

That building up on the left with all the windows is the health club.

The kids loved getting water dumped on them... the water was very refreshing... some of the resort pools are kept so warm it feels like bath water. The temperature of this pool was perfect, just cool enough to be both refreshing and comfortable...

Billy loved these "Kaa" snakes that spat water!

Well, I have to say that all this fun-in-the-sun was making me a bit thirsty. I’m not one who drinks often, but for days leading up to the trip I had imagined myself lounging by this amazing pool with some sort of tropical adult beverage in hand. The kids all wanted to go back to the pool and I could see Maji out of the corner of my eye as we left Uwanja Camp. I told Ed that I was going to get myself a little something at Maji…

I chose the Tangerine Dream...

The drink was frosty and delicious but, whew! It was strong! I slowly sipped it as I walked back to my lounge chair. No sooner had I settled into my chair than Ed came swimming to the edge of the pool and told me that it was 2:30 and “we” should get going… meaning that “I” should take one of the kids and go back to the villa to get showered off. Seriously? Seriously? I mean, I understood his rationale: I took more time to get ready than he did. But I had just sat down to relax with my drink!

“Hey, you’re the one that wants to get to the party by four,” he pointedly reminded me.

I sighed. Ah well, that was true. I wanted to maximize our party time at the Magic Kingdom and we could get in with our tickets as early as 4:00. Reluctantly, I gathered my things and left with Tricia to take the first round of showers.

“We’ll leave about 15 minutes after you, so don’t dawdle!” he called after me. Sheesh, sometimes he can be so bossy! Tricia and I decided that we would try to go back the shorter way and we found that if we went out the gate and across to the parking garage we could take an elevator that was much closer to our villa.

“We should definitely come this way the next time,” Tricia observed. We walked along and chatted about how much fun the pool had been and I sipped… and sipped… and sipped on my Tangerine Dream. I’m sure that I was drinking much faster walking that way than I would have if I had been sitting back in that lounge chair. By the time we got back to the villa I had drunk about two-thirds of it and was beginning to feel woozy. Could I really be turning into such a lightweight?

I left the rest of the drink on the kitchen counter, and went in to take my shower. As I stood under the water shampooing my hair I began to feel a bit unwell and I couldn’t understand why. We had eaten around eleven, so my stomach couldn’t have been that empty, could it? Perhaps that, plus being hot and drinking too fast, was causing me to feel woozy. I rinsed my hair and sat down on the little bench in the shower and waited for my head to stop spinning. The tile felt shockingly cold underneath me but I didn’t care; I just had to sit down! Soon I could hear the rest of the family coming in so I finished up and dried off. I was so glad that Tricia had been able to shower in her own separate bathroom because I had taken a lot longer than usual.

“Still not out of the bathroom?” Ed asked with mock annoyance. I told him what had happened.

“Serves you right, you lush!” he teased. He knows I rarely drink. I shot him a look and he gave me a hug before taking Billy in to get washed up. I could hear Billy chuckling and saying, “Arrgh!” He was really excited about getting dressed up like pirates. I lay down on the big bed, hair wrapped in a towel, and felt my head begin to spin slowly. I closed my eyes, which made it worse, so I opened them again. I stared up at the bedroom ceiling. That Tangerine Dream had turned out to be a nightmare! Our MNSSHP evening at the Magic Kingdom was starting in one hour… had I ruined it for myself and perhaps everyone else??

I'm glad you guys enjoyed yourself so much at the pool! It looks amazing - I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. :thumbsup2

Sorry about the Tangerine Dream/Nightmare! I hope you recover quickly and make it to MNSSHP at 4:00.

I'm a bit of a lightweight too... I don't usually drink during the day on vacation for just that reason - I'll have a glass of wine (or a wine spritzer) with dinner, but that's about the extent of it!

First off, that pool area is awesome. What a perfect spot for the kiddos to chill out!! I'm sorry though that the drink didn't agree with you Kathy. I am not a drinker at all either.

Oh No! Were you getting sick? You mentioned at some point that you all got sick on this trip.

The pool pics were amazing! (Especially when it is 17 degrees here today!).

I hope you are able to enjoy the Halloween Party!

That pool complex is one of the reasons that Kidani Resort is high on my list for our next trip.

What an amazing pool area! Kidani is now on my list of "must stays." thumbsup2 My DS loves the buckets that dump water out, too, due to the sensory stimulation, so I know that he would just have a ball there!

Oh no! I hope that darn drink didn't ruin your night!

I think that next time I feel like a frozen beverage on a hot day I'll stick to the non-alcoholic kind!

I can't believe I forgot about those other pictures!

It seemed like such a tame drink from the description... I guess I was thinking there would be a little vodka mixed in with the orange puree, not the other way around!

No, no stomach bug... just a gal who can't hold her liquor any more!
I do miss that pool! :cold:

That pool complex is one of the reasons that Kidani Resort is high on my list for our next trip.

Liam would adore it! :thumbsup2 And there's plenty of shady places for the baby, too.

Wow, that is an awesome pool.

I'm hoping to warm myself up with the memories. I don't know why, but my hands are just like ice pops today!

Ah! I see you are going back soon... I will have to stop by your PTR! :thumbsup2

And you're right, the play area by the pool is just one big sensory delight!

Kathy

The whole pool area over at Kidani really is wonderful...(It may be my favorite pool at WDW) when we were at the AKL last summer...we walked over to lunch ressies at Sanna but let the kids check out the pool at Kidani...and it was just fabulous...you couldn't definitely get some R&R there...

I'll be curious to see if you all go back...:goodvibes

Ironically I also had a drink at the bar-I think I had the Poolside Lemonade...and it stayed with me for a while..(so sorry you felt a little off...) I just felt well inebriated...and I don't know if it was the heat, sun or they make their drinks strong...or a combination of all three...

I hope you feel better for the party...
:surfweb:

I love the Giraffe pictures! I love giraffes and you got a great picture!

That pool area is amazing it looks like a lot of fun. And I think I have come down a water slide or two in a similar manner I do not like going under water and water slides scare me. But when your little brother calls you a chicken you really have to go down the slide.

Sorry about the drink, sounds like it had a lot of vodka. I think I would have had the same reaction.

Okay, folks, I could not stand to see Baby Minnie cry for even one minute more! If you are a regular on this board then you know that you just cannot be truly happy until you have some kind of countdown ticker in your signature!! :rotfl:

It's only been two months since our last trip and I am getting so homesick for the World just writing about it!

So, just to make myself feel better, here are tentative plans for the distant future....

The choice for 2012 is either Presidents' Week or Spring Break so the kiddos don't have to miss school. (I just can't "do" Florida in the hot, sticky summer.)

The # of DVC points we would need is exactly the same for either week so I'm thinking Presidents' Week because according to UG and TGM the crowds may be slightly smaller then. :confused3

I'd also like to make a short couple's trip with Ed that year so we can make it for at least some part of Jordan's Peep Fest planned for June of that year.

"What's that?" you say, "Didn't you just tell us you couldn't handle Disney in the summer?" Well, only for you, Jordy!

If I can hold tight and resist planning a trip for 2011 we can save our DVC points and use them for the more "expensive" travel season with the kids the following February plus have a few points left over to use during Peep Fest in June.

**mrsksomeday: Tracy, if you can work it so the Enchanted Tickers can handle trips that are more than two years out (sniff, sniff), I would love to be able to use one of yours instead! :thumbsup2

Kathy

kathy i noticed the ticker before anything else, that sad minnie was killing me too. notice i am tickerless, cross your fingers for a good tax refund, because if i cant pay cash i promised my dh  we wont go. i know it makes good sense i just hope i get a good refund. so i had to take a ticker off once before and i would rather be tickerless than have to take it off (it was such a sad day)
oh and as for the drink, i had a very similar experience with a grandmarnier slushie in epcot, about 100 degrees and no food, not a good feeling as i was trying to keep my kids from climbing the fence to the water while dh got fish and chips , i literally thought i would pass out. luckily i was still upright when dh got back. that pool looks phenomenal

Such a great afternoon only to be foiled by the Tangerine nightmare. Please tell me you recover quickly and make it to the party on time. Maybe it was just the combination of drinking too fast and the sunlight. I do hope you feel better. Do tell what happens next.

I love all your pictures of the pool area and you had a lovely location. So glad the animals decided to come out and play! The girls look like they are having a blast watching the animals.

oh no!! What a great afternoon to be spoiled by the Tangerine Nightmare!! I was just going to say how frosty & delicious that drink looked, but maybe not.

Hope you recovered quickly!

I have enjoyed reading your trip report. I am really excited that I am not the only one who has a ticker that is over two years away:lmao::lmao:

I'm really enjoying your report Kathy. I like your writing style. Can't wait to see how you liked the party. We went to the one on 10/25 and had a great time! I'm sure you did too. :thumbsup2
