Changing Reservation at 7 Month Window

Hi all, I made a reservation today at our home resort (BLT) for September. Member services could not answer my question, which I thought was simple, so I think I must not have asked it correctly. This is only our 2nd DVC trip, so I thought I would ask the experts here!

OK, here goes...this is what we booked
Day 1,2,3,4 BLT studio
Day 5,6,7 BLT 1BR

At the 7 month window (which is about 6 weeks from now), ideally we would like....
Day 1,2 Animal Kingdom studio
Day 3,4 Saratoga Springs 1BR
Day 5,6,7 BLT 1BR (same as the original reservation)

Member services gave me 2 reservation numbers, one for the studio, and one for the 1BR. My question...

At the 7 month window, let's say only AKV was available for days 1 and 2. Can I cancel days 1 and 2 at BLT, but leave days 3 and 4 alone??
Or do I need to cancel the entire BLT studio reservation...book days 1 and 2 at AKV....and try to rebook days 3 and 4 at BLT?

You will not have to cancel the reservation you will simply modify it by taking two days off the reservation.

Yes Key word is modify.
We booked OKW for a week and I called every day(almost) looking for nights 1-4 or 4-7 at BWV. I was able to get 1&2 only so MS gave me a new res for BWV and modified my OKW by dropping days 1 & 2. I think your all set if they are available.

You can modify the BLT studio by taking off from the beginning or end, without canceling the reservation.

You would not be able to book AKV in the middle and still keep the BLT nights. But if you call and either your AKV nights (1 & 2) or your SSR nights (3 & 4) are available, you can change that part of your reservation.

And, because of the 7 month window, you will have to call at different times to do each one--which is probably a good thing.

Thanks all for the info. A follow up question...

If I call at exactly the 7 month mark for day 1 (which will be Feb 22), if AKV has availability for days 1 AND 2, can I modify the BLT studio reservation for days 1 and 2 on 2/22? (In other words, I don't have to call back the next day to see about day 2, do I)?

Along the same lines...if days 1 thru 4 show availability when I check at the 7 month window for day 1, can I modify the entire BLT studio reservation on the one call?

You can book and modify the same day for the first 2 days on Feb. 22. You would have to call back on Feb. 24 for the SSR booking and modify the last 2 days at BLT.

When you call on the 22nd, you will be able to modify the BLT studio reservation at the beginning or the end for whatever days you need.

So, yes, if Day 1 & 2 is available at AKV, you can book those and cancel Day 1 & 2 of the BLT studio. Then call back on the 24th to do SSR. Again, you will be able to book day 3 & 4 at SSR if available. If only day 3 is available, you won't be able to change that and keep the day 4 at BLT, unless you have already changed Day 1 & 2 at AKV.

It can be confusing at times, but it is really only the middle of the reservation that can't be touched without a cancellation.

Sandi, that last piece of info cleared it all up, about not being able to modify the middle of the reservation.
Now I am going to start another thread about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of switching resorts after only a few days...

I did that last summer to try out the different resorts. We made 2 switches in 7 days, and it was a lot (2 @ BWV, 2 @ BLT, and 3 @ VWL) but not horrible. I don't think I would do it again, but will always do at least one split.

I really like having the 2 different resorts and next summer will do BCV for 2 nights, and BLT for 4.

If I ever get to the point where I can go for 10 nights or more, then I would reconsider the 3 resorts option!
