Any RCI members here?

My inlaws are the have many points to use from RCI. I'm wondering if there is a way to use RCI points for a DCL cruise? It would be better for them to use them than lose them. Do any of you RCI experts know? Maybe they could use points for one of them and the other pay cash? I'm trying to find options for them. If it isn't possible, they may just pay cash to go with us on the cruise portion.

I'm hoping they will be able to go on the Dec 11 western with us on the Magic.

I can't tell you specifically about RCI but we booked our DCL cruise with II (Interval International) and used a week that we had available. I can only assume that RCI also offers the same opportunity. The easiest way to check is to see if RCI offers cruise exchanges on their site or to call them direct and see if they can do cruise exchanges. Hope this helps...

RCI does have an exchange with DCL. I haven't deposited my week with them so I don't know the specifics.

From what I could find on the RCI site, it looks like you get about $500 off the cost of a DCL cruise if you deposit your week. That doesn't sound like a good deal to me. I'm thinking my inlaws would be better off renting the RCI points to someone else and using cash for the cruise. I don't know where they would do that though. With DVC, I just use the rent/trade board here!

Unlike DVC, it's quite illegal to rent out RCI points. Your inlaws could lose their membership if they're caught. It is really a case of use it or lose it.

The discount depends on the sailing. You may be able to find a cruise with a larger discount. Again, RCI points work differently from DVC. You get a discount on the cabin, not on a per person basis. So, the more people who are in the cabin, the greater the discount from x number of points. You can really only determine the discount by doing a ghost booking on rci.com.

However, be aware that RCI's cancellation policy for cruises is terrible. I changed my mind about a cruise that I had booked for them, and they kept all of the deposit, even though it was very far out from final payment.

I am unsure about the legality of it, but there are multiple timeshare exchange websites. Many offer a way to rent your week. I have used the Timeshare User Group to exchange weeks with someone in RCI (before DVC went to RCI). www.tug2.net

You may get better info about how to make exchanges on the DVC discussion boards.

Thanks, I'm a DVC member so I am trying there, too. But I thought cruisers might have more background on what to do with RCI for cruising.

I'll check out this tug site but it sounds like renting out RCI points is frowned upon from the post previous to yours.
