Transferring of ressie question.......

If I book a ressie now direct with Disney or an agent, am I able to transfer that ressie and get the on board booking 10% discount when i am on board next January?

The cruise I want is for September 2011 and I am cruising January 2011. Would be great not to have to wait until January 2011 since I figure the prices will go up and cabin selection will not be as great.

Any answers?

Basically, you have to rebook your reservation while on board to get the 10% and onboard credit. You will be booking at the price then in effect, which as you have noted, can be increased from the current fares.

The best suggestion is to book now. Then have the onboard booking person price out the reservation while you are on board and decide whether it is worth rebooking it. By the way, the boards said that I'd have to book on board and cancel the old reservation when I got home; this did not happen. The onboard booking agent was able to e-mail my TA asking her to "release the deposit." She was then able to re-do my reservation keeping the dining assignment, etc. and handled the new deposit internally--they canceled the old and applied the deposit to the new so no money ever showed up on my credit card.

If the price increases, you already have the current ressie.

Ok, I think I understand your question.... Let me get this right. You want to book now at the current rate, selecting your room, paying the deposit and getting locked into the current price for a Sept. '11 cruise date. Then when you get on the ship, 9 months prior to this sailing, rebook to get the 10% discount & SBC..... Is this correct?

Well if so this is how that will work. You can do that, but at that time you will have to lock into the current price for that stateroom. You can not use the price you currently lock into. Now, by that time, the price would have gone up, but the 10% off the current price plus the SBC MAY still be cheaper than what you will be locking into now. So the only true advantage you will have by doing this is the ability to select a better stateroom and keep that room, you will be able to make your deposit now and transfer that deposit and therefore not need to come up with that $ that January and the final advantage would be the security that you got on the ship if just by chance that sailing was to book complete. So the answer is yes you can make the reservation now and transfer it, but no you will not recieve the price you are booking at now and later be able to transfer the savings to the current price. I hope this makes sense.

We did this in 08 for our 09 Halloween cruise. When I got the new price onboard, it was actually $6 more than my original price, due to adding in new fuel surcharge. (No longer in effect.)
I still went ahead and rebooked since DCL would be giving us $200 obc plus another $200 from my TA, still +$394.
Not long after we returned, DCL dropped the fuel surcharge for new bookings and my TA was able to have it dropped from ours, saving another $130-something.

We did lose early dining, no longer available at the time of rebooking, but since my parents did not rebook and we linked with them, we were waitlisted and eventually got early dining.
This is something to consider when rebooking. The onboard agent did warn me prior to rebooking that early dining was sold out.
If you have no other confirmed early diners to link to, you can be waitlisted but no guarantees that you'll get it.

In December, I tried to rebook my reservation while onboard and wasn't able to because the category I'd booked (which was showing GTY status the week before our cruise) wasn't available anymore. I did book a pure dummy date while onboard and my TA and I are both watching out for that category to come available again, so we can transfer the dummy res to my cruise, but so far it hasn't returned.

So book what you want now, and if you're able to rebook while onboard, great.

Your 8/16/11 is a very popular cruise, last double dip of the summer. Not all Dream cruises filled up this quickly. My November 2011 btb hasn't budged in price since I booked 1st day release.

Still is good advice; if you def want to cruise that date, book now.

Yeah, only 589 days out or so and that cruise has been showing Cat 4, 5 and maybe 6 as the only available categories for a family of 4 for the past month or so. It's both the last and cheapest of the summertime double dips.

Wow. I wanted to do that cruise but by the time I could book it (Silver CC tier) it was over $5k. Same cat in the fall for b2b was less than $3500 and still get 2 visits to cc, and 7 nts to explore the new ship.
I just couldn't justify that extra expense just to cruise during summer when my kids get 3 days off 1st week of Nov. each yr.
