We went on an airboat ride in Mar09. The company is called "Cypress Lakes Air Boat Tours" and we would recommend them to anyone! It took about 40 minutes to get there from Disney. We saw a lot of aligators and our driver even got off the boat and caught an aligator with his bare hands and brought it back on the boat for everyone to see and touch! We definitely weren't expecting that! I'm sure there are some cheaper tours (we paid about $180 for two adults and 2 children) but maybe not as exciting! Well worth the $.
We give a big to Spirit of the Swamp that Befferk mentioned! We took a 2-hr tour with them in Nov, and it was GREAT!
My DH and DDad and I really liked that it is private to your party (up to 6, I think, since it's a small boat), so we had no trouble asking about whatever we were seeing. And the headsets w/ mics make it easy to communicate while tearing through the brushy water in search of 'gators.
We saw a couple big tour boats, but we were glad to have Captain Harold to ourselves. We chased 'gators, bald eagles, watched the egrets/ storks/ etc, and enjoyed the beauty of the back waters. It's worth every cent for the longest amount of time you can afford.
We went on Wild Willy's airboat tour last week- it was great- did not see any big alligators but many small ones and the area was beautiful lots of birds to see- ride was an hour- think around $35 each person. Boat held 8 people including driver. We all loved it. At the office they have 2 small alligators and you can hold them.
