Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

I just called and requested additional luggage tags. She said they take about seven days to arrive and we are leaving next Saturday, the 12th.
Anyone know how long they *usually* take to arrive? I know we can just keep the baggage claim tickets and go that route, but would rather have that be a last resort if possible.

Thanks!

I've stayed on site many times but never used ME. I'm sure someone has asked this, but I can't find it. I got my yellow tags yesterday for my trip in January, but have just changed resorts. The CM changing my ressie told me to just cross out POR and add WL, but that seems sketchy to me what with the barcodes, etc. Should I call ME directly and get new tags, etc?
You could call, but the CM's instructions should be fine. Just be SURE not to put any marking on any part of the bar code. This is what's scanned and what directs your luggage. It's also how Magical Express tracks each bag on its route from the airport to your room.

or am I just paranoid that the yellow tag is going to be torn off by accident at one of the three airports before MCO?
Not to worry. As long as you attached each tag correctly (use the whole tag, about 14" x 2", don't utilize anything horizontal that looks like a perforation; slip the tag through your luggage handle, remove ONLY the backing from the two ends of the tag, adhere the two ends together back-to-back as evenly as possible), they shouldn't come off.

Seven days from today is only Thursday. It's always possible they'll arrive sooner. On the off-chance you leave before the tags arrive, the 'show your claim check at the counter' method has worked every (as far as I know) time it's been used in the last four and a half years.

Help, I am confused about the Magical Express tags. I thought everyone who reserved them with their packages got them sent in the mail about 30 days prior to your trip along with your other trip materials, but my TA just told me that because I didn’t give him my flight info, they didn’t send the tags, and I would have to give my bag claim tickets to DME upon arrival and they would have to find my bags that way. This just doesn’t make sense to me, since all the other times that I have driven to Disney and therefore didn’t need the tags for air travel, the tags were always still sent to me anyway! So I don’t understand why my TA is saying I didn’t get tags because I didn’t have flight info sent in, if I’ve always gotten tags before with no flight info indicated. I really don’t feel comfortable just waiting til I get to MCO to give DME my bag claim tickets to find the bags themselves without the easily recognized ME colored tags on them—does Disney really check each piece of luggage and read the tiny numbers on the luggage tags to see if they match your claim ticket?? That seems really inefficient to me, since the whole point of those brightly colored ME tags is for easy recognition, and it also seems risky that they might not find your bag…I don’t know, I guess I’m just skeptical because it doesn’t make sense to me but perhaps I am missing something. Has anyone else done this before, not received tags and handled it at MCO? If so, how did it go for you? And most importantly, does anyone know a phone number I can call to ask for the tags myself and maybe they can still be sent to me? I’m not leaving until 12/30. Thanks so much for your help!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I can't find the other ME thread I was looking for. When you get off the plane @ MCO, you used th have to go down to the ME desk and check in before getting in line for the bus. I read somewhere that now, you don't go to the desk and check in, you just go straight to the bus. Is this true?
TIA!

I notice that disney says that baggage coming in on international flights should not be tagged, but instead the claim checks should be given to ME.

What about international flights where you don't need to go through customs at MCO? For example, flights from some Canadian airports and the Bahamas have pre-U.S. customs screening, so you just walk off your plane. Do these bags still not get tagged?

This just doesn’t make sense to me
Bluntly? You need a new Travel Agent. Yours dropped the ball.

You should not be concerned in the least about Disney's ability to recognize and pull your luggage, even without the yellow tags*. In addition to asking for your claim checks temporarily to note the numbers, the CMs at the Welcome Center will also ask you for a description of your luggage. They may even show you a binder with scads of luggage so you can pick out which yours most resembles.

A couple of times in the last couple of days, CleveRocks (this board's expert on DME as one of its first riders :)) has assured on different threads that we have NEVER had a report of someone needing to use their claim checks ever having had a problem receiving their luggage.

*you could attach a replica of the yellow tags to your luggage, or you could use some distinctive ribbon or yarn.

Thanks, I totally agree my agent dropped the ball. I just called DME myself and they told me my TA never gave them the info of my reservation, and she confirmed that they do NOT need flight info to send the ME vouchers and tags! So when I called my TA he told me that is not true and I said I don't want to argue about it, just take care of it (DME couldn't mail me the tags without the TA's written permission, otherwise the tags would go to them first). I am mad because my TA should just admit he was wrong, I've used him before and like i said I usually drive to Disney and I still get the ME tags, so clearly he just dropped the ball here on this trip and should have said something.

Yikes ... you usually drive??? I live on the island just north of yours, and I don't even like driving as far as Castaway Cove to take my kids on those rides, let alone to Florida!!!

It is curious that you've received DME tags in the past, however. I say this because DME isn't automatically included with your resort reservation. You must opt-in for DME. In other words, DME is available to you because you're a resort guest, but you must make a DME reservation in order to use DME and receive the DME materials.

When you say you've received tags before, are you talking about long yellow sticky paper tags with a lot of personalized information pre-printed on them (your name, resort name, reservation #, etc.)? Or are you possibly talking about the decorative, hard-plastic luggage tags that we receive as a perk of booking a package (as opposed to a room-only reservation)? Those hard-plastic, credit-card sized, decorative tags are NOT Disney's Magical Express tags. Just checking ....:goodvibes

As it turns out, Disney sent it UPS 2-day Airmail and we received the extra luggage tags today. It was a nice surprise :)

we received our luggage tags today!:banana:

however, I do have a question. Our ME info does not list our flight info. I called and gave the info way back in september after we booked our flight but our vouchers say: "no flight information available". Do I need to call again?

I think it couldn't hurt. I called a ME a few months back when we booked our flights and gave them the info. But when I called for some extra luggage tags, she told me they didn't have our flight info :confused3 So I gave it to them again.

OK thanks. That's good to know. Last time we went we didn't even get the ME package so we were really excited that we got it this time! But hey, they say at least 1 thing goes wrong every vacation and if this is all I need to deal with I will gladly take it!:thumbsup2

That's weird, I asked them to send our luggage tags by courier as I leave tomorrow for Florida and won't be home to receive them, and they said they don't courier luggage tags anymore!

Can anyone answer this question?

I am planning a trip for May of next year. My boyfriend's father works for Delta and so we can get "buddy passes" for cheap, which is when you take the seats on a plane that aren't taken due to people not showing up or tickets not being sold. My question is...is there anyway that I could book ME with an estimated time and then call them when I know what time I'll actually be landing in Orlando? Either explaining the situation or saying that the plane has been delayed? Or should I just shell out for a Mears shuttle

It won't be an issue. Just make the reservation and tell them you haven't booked your air yet. They don't need to know when you are arriving. All bags with yellow tags get pulled automatically...as long as it isn't between 10pm and 7am.
You aren't assigned a particular bus, so you can show up at any time and get on a bus. The only issue you will have is going home. DME does need a specific flight in order to get you picked up on time.

Alright -

1) we leave 2/5 - when should I start thinking about calling them because we didn't get them? Meaning, how long should I go before I call and ask if they have been sent?

2) there are 6 of us - 2 rooms. Both rooms I booked, but my nanny and her sister are in the other room. Will their tags be sent to them or to me? Just want to tell her to be on the lookout if they are coming to her!

3) we booked through DU - will the tags go to them first then, or right to me?

Thanks!

Cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
