Not sure if this is the place to start this, but....I am sailing on the wonder in a few months and I have 25-30 pounds to lose. Hoping to lose half this amount by following the south beach diet. Anyone with me?!

I am going to start a list here as requested by some of you:

Neenslovesdisney: 1/10/10 = lost 9
TravelfamMI: start 1/4/10
1/8/10 = lost 2.25
Maryrn11168: start
1/8/10 = lost 11 lbs

I'm a low carber. I actually started about a month before I booked my cruise. I'm down about 20lbs since Oct 23.

Still would like to lose another 20 but I don't really have to. I just want to slim down so I can pig out on board! :thumbsup2

I'm right there with you both! Just lost 5 pounds since Monday!!! Walking 2-4 miles a day, aerobics 3x a week and strength training (push ups and stuff like that mostly, not weights) 3x a week...here's my diet...

5 meals a day...
Breakfast, one protein one whole grain one fruit/veg
Snack, one fruit, one protein (1/2 apple and handful of nuts or cheese stick)
Lunch, one protein, one vegetable, one grain
Snack same as above
Dinner one protein, two veggies

smaller portions but as long as I get that small snack in I eat much smaller main meals!! Hope to keep it up!!

Wow! 5lbs since Monday is incredible!
I didn't weigh this week. With all the stress with my son I don't recall eating much at all. For the two days he was in and out of the hospital I know all I had was coffee. Not good at all.

5 pounds is awesome! I hope we can post here regularly and keep eachother motivated. I have been trying to lose weight for years and just ran into a friend who lost 35 pounds with the south beach diet. She went from a size 12 to a size 6 in 4 months! I have to give this a try. I am 35, 5'3" and 152 lbs, my highest weight ever, including full-term pregnancy. I actually exercise regularly but I binge on the weekends. Hope Sb can keep my cravings under control.

I have to give a shout out to Weight Watchers;). About 4 years ago I started Weight Watchers. Within 6 months I lost 30 pounds. In 4 years I've managed to keep it off (well 5lbs up and down here and there) but consistently have kept the same weight. I tried all the low carb type diets and it's so hard to stick with something if you have to deprive yourself of certain things. With Weight Watchers I NEVER felt deprived. I am now a lifetime member. I don't go to meetings anymore or anything. But, i took a lot of what I learned there and continue to use it in everyday life. Just a suggestion, as it is the ONLY thing that worked and I've managed to maintain.

Well, you have to figure in I was coming off a Thanksgiving no no restate a Southern Thanksgiving weekend! :) Strawberry cake, pecan pie, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes...oh it's just heaven! :) So, I'm sure 2-3 pounds of that was water from all the sugars!!! :)

I keep reminding myself how much easier it will be to handle a full day of excursions and not let my weight slow me down..so I stay on task, I also let myself have one off meal a week, as long as the portion is okay I'll splurge and have a cheeseburger but try to load the veggies on it! :)

I'm so pleased someone started this thread. It's strange what works for some may not work for other's. I was always thin however I have the fat gene in my family and since the birth of my first son I've been battling with my weight. I would gain a ton of weight with my pregnancies and lose all by ten pounds. Well after four kids and 40lbs later I was over 180lbs. Two years ago I was just under 200 at 199! I freaked!
I first tried WW and lost HALF POUND A MONTH! Very discouraging! The South Beach diet didn't work at all. The scale didnt budge but I've low carbed before...not Atkins..just a plan I designed for myself and it works well. I know I'm addicted to carbs so the first few days was a bit rough but I also have an iron clad will so I find it easy to follow. As long as I can see the scale moving each week Im happy and I can stay on track. But with S. Beach and WW I saw no results so I got discouraged and ate myself into a carb eating frenzy!
Good luck to all of us on our different plans. We'll all be in string bikini's before we know it! Well maybe not myself personally as I'm 42. But a nice tankini would be just fine :thumbsup2

Well, I guess I'm not 152 after all, I'm 156:eek:! I have been avoiding the scale for month but decided to face reality today b/c I am officially starting south beach. I agree, what works for one might not work as well for another. But I do believe that any weight loss method/diet will work if you stick to it! Good luck ladies and we can use our friend who has kept if off with WW as our inspiration.

Hi..Would love to loose weight with great friends that I may never actually meet!!I;ll be honest and please don't be mean........Should we weigh in??

My sons Make a wish is in March ,,,,,,I got sooo much tooo

Good luck all of you. In January I started trying to lose weight mainly for our August cruise. I started off wanting to lose a stone (14lbs) before August but in the end I managed to lose double that and cruised 28lbs light. I came back from a 17 night vacation having put 4lb back on which I was ok with as I had eaten whatever I wanted. Right now I am 35lb lighter than I was at the beginning of 2009 and I feel MUCH better for it.

You all have a great motivator - the cruise was just what I needed to focus my mind and strengthen my will power - I wanted some great photos from shutters and I was much happier posing for family photos on the beach at Castaway Cay in my 152lb body than I was at 180lbs!

Good luck to everyone!

We have been dieting and exercising for a few months now. DW has lost 33 pounds and over 18 inches. DH has lost 26 pounds. We used the weight watcher style of eating and exercise programs from Beachbody. Just remember with southbeach, atkins style diets you get a lot of it back if you eat normal again. Choose a diet and exercise program that you can stick with for life to maintain your results. We are cruising again in April and are about halfway to our goals.

Not sure if you guys know this or not...but the Disboards are quite diverse and have forums on dozens of topics. One of them is the W.I.S.H. board where Disers dicuss all types of diets and even have weight loss challenges and competitions. It is great for getting yourself motivated.

I am in no way trying to discourage anyone from losing weight but the W.I.S.H. board would be the more appropriate board for this topic. You can even keep the thread of the title....LOSE BEFORE YOUR CRUISE is a great title!!

I am going to leave this thread here for a day or two to get some more responses and then I will move it over to the W.I.S.H. board where you can get all kinds of tips, recipes and motivation from others trying to eat healthy and/or lose weight.

Good luck on your weight loss journeys.....I joined WW in October and I am down 10 lbs. and very excited about it!!! Many more pounds to go but it is a start!! Discussing eating plans with others is a great way to start losing weight....experiences can be shared and what might not work for one will work for others and you may learn some things and try new recipes!!

Here is a link to the W.I.S.H. board so you can start exploring it a bit before I move the thread. W.I.S.H. = We’re Inspired to Stay Healthy

you are exactly right. about 5 years or so ago i lost 60 pounds in 3 months on atkins. got off the atkins and gained back the 60 pounds within 4 months.
plus atkins is not good for you lots of fat, no fruits, low fiber intake. now im doing weight watchers you will lose it a lot slower maybe only a couple pounds a week but its a diet you can do for your entire life and be healthy.
remember the faster you lose it the faster you will gain it back. if your on a diet and after your first couple of weeks if your losing more than 3 pounds a week you want to start eating a little more. also if you lose it to fast a lot of people get kidney stones.

Sounds like a great idea. Count me in, but not just yet. I will be ready to start by Monday or Tuesday. I still have a bit of junk food in the house and the just CAN'T bring myself to let any go to waste, lol. I would love to lose around 35 lbs by April and it really would help having other people working towards their goal at the same time.

Make sure to keep posting even if our thread gets moved to the WISH board! What if we all posted our weight weekly as well, maybe on Saturday to prevent Fri night over-eating? Mine is 156 . Who's next?

I broke my elbow about six weeks ago and because of that, last week I strained my intercostal muscles on that side. To cruise and fit comfortably in my clothes, I'll need to lose a good 10 pounds before I look at a cruise ship.

Good luck to all you other "losers."

:goodvibes

Thats the point I was making about WW. Those low carbs are great for a "quick weight loss". If it's just to lose for a cruise and you don't mind gaining it back. Unfortunately, they unrealistic for a lifestyle that you can live with forever. My advice to anyone starting any kind of weight loss program is to think in terms of "forever". "Can I maintain eating like this for the rest of my life?" I used to get so mad when people said that I was "dieting". I would say "no, I'm not dieting. This is the way I eat now" My mother is good for that. Whenever we go out to eat and I get a chicken salad or something healthy she says "oh I forgot, your dieting." I always tell her that I've been doing this for 4 years now. That's not a diet. It's a way of life. I have an aunt that needed to lose 60lbs. She got the lap band. I told her she was nuts! I saw how she ate and told her that the lap band would not be a magical fix. You need to change your way of eating all together. So long story short, she got it, lost 35 lbs. Now she has gained it all back + 10lbs and went through surgery for it. So find something you can do long term. Not just a quick fix. May not be WW, but something for you. It'll really helps keep it off.:thumbsup2

I agree hgon76. That's why I think south beach makes sense because it is not a low carb way of eating but rather emphasizes healthy carbs and good fats. My co-worker who has been doing the south beach woe for 3 years now seems to love it. When we go out for business lunches, she orders grilled meats, steamed vegetables or lean meat sandwiches on whole wheat toast. Seems pretty liveable to me. My problem with weight watchers point system is that I have seen many people (including other co-workers) use their points to make unhealthy choices and they end up losing weight but not improving their overall shape. I am looking to get an athletes body so I think sb in conjunction with weight training and running should help me achieve my goals. The bottom line is, what works for one may not work for another. I agree with you, whatever plan one chooses it has to be something they can live with for life or the weight will come back, and then some!
Congrats on your success though hgon76, that takes hard work, determination and discipline. I'm impressed.

count me in. I would like to lose 25 lbs before my April cruise. I am trying to decided between Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. Any input, especially experience w/ Jenny Craig would be appreciated!
