I remember reading a while back alot of disgrunted people regarding Virgin's luggage allowance. What is it and what was the issue. On my booking and on a email ive received from Virgin it says economy is 2x23kg - this is good isnt it?

That is correct. I have emailed Virgin to find out about what happens if you upgrade to a different cabin class though - as an existing booking (i.e. before 25 Nov) do you get the upgraded pre 25 Nov allowance or the new one ...:confused3. I know it isn't specifically what was asked but since I should be getting the info I will post the verdict in case it is helpful .... to anyone;)

Well - isn't that interesting !! I booked on November 14th 2009, so I guess im one of the lucky ones!!!

2tiggies - id be interested in your answer too!!:thumbsup2

Hopefully won't matter to us, even our 25 night trips we only take 1 bag each usually around 18kg pp. It was nice to have the extra just incase we bought anything out there or given gifts. One year we brought 6 Disneyland plates home from bought for us by a friend, quite a bit of weight in them.
Might have to buy some cheap scales to make sure we are under in furture.

A lot of people buy cheap fishing scales from Walmart to check with :goodvibes

I bought proper luggage scales (pretty much the same thing as the fishing scales although supposed to be more accurate - don't know if there is a difference. I picked them up for around £5. The hardly weight a thing and once I had used them when we were all packed, I popped them into the hold luggage and that was it. I have to say, they have always been accurate within around 100g when I weigh in at check in. Not bad for a fiver!;)

Thanks Wayne. I don't think DBF and I will cope with just 23kg each so it looks like we'll have to purchase extra allowance at £32 per bag.

It is cheaper to pre pay it online than to do it at the airport. Trick is trying to work out more or less how much you are going to bring back.

If you log onto your booking on the virgin website it should confirm your 2 x 23 kg.

I have a letter from Virgin confirming the 2 x 23kg allowance as we don't go for quite a while & thought it would save any problems at check-in.:)

I did the same - made sure I got an email addressed to me stating the above.

Just to report back on the upgrade allowance question, Virgin got back to me and this is what they said:

Thank you for your email.

The baggage allowance will depend upon the date on which the bookings is made. As you have made the booking before before 25th November 2009. If you upgrade to premium economy, the old baggage will be applicable.

Thank you for contacting Virgin Atlantic.

Yeah, £32 is the pre-pay price, it's £40 at the airport. :scared1: Oh well, it will just have to be done I guess! Last time we only JUST made the 46kg each so we'll definitely need to buy extra.

princess 85 - what do you take on holiday??? there are 4 of us, and we manage on 4 cases under 23kg, and thats with all our xmas presents and a decorated (with lights of couse ) tree!!

:rotfl:

It's what we bring back, not what we take. Saying that, I don't understand why our cases ended up so heavy, we only bought clothes etc. I guess things add up. One of my cases was 10kg on the way out and 22kg on the way back!!

I fall into the same category. That is why when I upgrade, if I can't get the same class for both trips, I always try and get the better class (read: more luggage allowance) on the way back. In April I stopped in at the Levi Store at Premium Outlets and they were selling ladies' Levis for $12. That was already 23 kg of allowance alone ...... :lmao:

Perhaps I could learn a lesson from you about moderation and self-restraint. If I had to do Christmas presents, even without the tree, plus all the shopping, I would need to make enquiries on that cargo that Wayne mention - for more that 10 extra cases .....

Hi

Just thought i'd give you all a laugh!!;)

We are traveling as a family of 6 and are taking 12 bags with us!!!:rolleyes1

But we have got a birthday, anniversary, christmas, and a cruise, got 2 bags just with FE stuff in them so it's allowed - that's what im telling DH anyway!!!!!!:rotfl2
