Last year throught Budget it cost us $311. This year $740! ($603 plus fees). Our dates are 2/13-2/20 and we've never paid this much. I've tried as many different codes as I could find, but nothing less. Any suggestions?

I had a ressie with a rate I could deal with. But, Alamo came out with a minivan for $199/week the week before we left. So, I canceled my original ressie and booked with Alamo.

I have found the last minute rates to be the best.

I understand that many people are hesitant to try Priceline bidding because you don't know in advance what company you will get and because once the deal is done it's done, with no changes or cancellations, but we've had great luck with Priceline.

I just got a mini van at MCO for January 15 thru 23 (8 days) for a total of $347 through Alamo by bidding $30 a day. That's only $304 a week TOTAL!

We've taken January trips several times so I know this is about as good a deal as anyone will get.

Our recommendation: bid really, really low, expecting it to be rejected, to get the feel for the process. Then two days later you can bid again and try to get it at the price you want. You will see they show you the total price before your bid is accepted, so no bad surprises there. Compared to the Alamo site I'm saving over 60%.

Good luck!

I went last year over spring break and found I did the best on Priceline about 2 weeks before our trip.

I helped a friend book a car for 5 days, 2/20 - 2/25. All quotes were over $500 except Alamo with the Walmart code of 428488. It was about $200. Check it out and hopefully it will help.

I just booked with the Wal-mart code and saved over $400 for 2/20-2/27 at TPA. It's for an SUV. Thanks so much!

Try Alamo every week under deals section then under last minute specials. It will list cities and deals for that week. You can use that link to your dates. Add yourself the email update list.

They always go down at some point. Book the lowest you find now. There is no credit card needed to hold a reservation. Then check often with every code you find & include coupons then modify that reservation often.
It will give you a screen with the new price and the old price side by side then ask if you want to continue the modified rate or keep the old. You can always modify and add coupon codes anytime.
Google 'alamo coupon codes' and look through different links.

Check the Walmart code 428488 details carefully. While it was about $100 cheaper when I tried it, it had the following terms:

Contract I.D. 428488
Inclusive Rate Items
(1) Additional Driver Included
0 Free Miles Included
$0.35 Each Additional Mile, Calculated On Return And Actual Miles Driven

What airport are you doing the Walmart code from? I got unlimited miles on mine from MCO for dropoff and pickup. It saved quite a bit from a few weeks ago.

I just went and checked mine too. We had free additional driver and unlimited miles. Thanks for mentioning that we should double check.

I did have a pickup in JAX and dropoff at MCO, so maybe that's why the difference happened. It didn't happen when I looked at a TPA pickup and MCO dropoff. Just thought it was worth mentioning as sometimes these codes do have little differences. Of course with a $100 savings, you'd have to drive 300 miles at the zero free miles rate to negate the full savings.

I belive you are there during the Daytona 500. I have been TOLD that this event eats up LOTS of rentals in the Central Florida area. Just an FYI.

This Walmart code is for the general public right? I only like to book with legitimate codes. This is a big price saver. Thrifty was cheaper out of Sanford but for $16 more I got a full size with Alamo.

What Walmart code is 428488. The only two codes that I have seen on Mousesavers is 428448 and 430710. 430710 is the code we always use.

Same thing here - is 428488 really a Wal-Mart code? It isn't listed at mousesaver dot com

Just bad typing on my part. It is 428448 and comes from the Rand McNally Walmart 2009 special edition, so it is an open public code (nothing to clip and show).
