Do the busses pick up guests at DTD early?

Hi. since in the past, despite the claims of disney transportation, i was waiting 45 min to get a bus from MK to Pop since it was early in the morning, i was thinking on going to the contemporary from MK then going to downtown disney and then to Pop.. of course that could take just as much time. If i did do this, do busses consitantly pick up guests at DTD early or is it like MK where they're only dropping off and they drive right past you? I HAVE to catch a taxi for my disney cruise so i cant be late and i'd need to leave MK at 10am, they have EMH at 7am so i'd like to spend the 3 hrs at the park rather than hanging around my resort. :headache:

I would not use DTD as a bus hub if you are in a hurry. There are two stops at DTD and if Typhoon Lagoon is open they will also stop there. Use the direct bus to your resort, and give it plenty of time if there is something you must be back there for.

Frankly, if you're considering a taxi, you might instead want to reserve a town car/car service. Why? Well, while the price might seem high, it's a fixed price from Disney to the port. A taxi fare is subject to outside influences like route, traffic, lights, accidents... the meter is tied into the engine and clicks up one notch after X seconds of idle time.

we're just taking a taxi from pop to the Dolphin to catch the disney bus to the port, but thanks!

I certainly see why you want to be at MK for the extra hours. It seems like a LOT of stress, though. I'll throw out an alternative that would reduce stress, at least for me, and still allow time at MK.

The afternoon before, take the bus to Downtown Disney and then a short walk to rent a car. Our one day cost for a full size car, picking up @ "Lake Buena Vista" and dropping off @ "Port Canaveral" is $40.

You'd have your own transportation, no waiting on a bus while the clock is ticking....

I'm confused...why are you going to DTD to begin with??? Are you using it just to connect? Why not just take the bus to POP from MK??? I must really be missing something here.

I interpreted her post to mean she was worried about getting back to POP from the MK since she'd be going back mid morning. Apparently, she waited a long time for a bus to get back at that time on another occasion .

OP -If there were no bus waiting to take me back to POP when I wanted to go, I'd walk to the Contemporary and take a taxi back to POP from there. (You walk by the resort buses on the way to the CR). Quick and easy.

Buses back to the resorts from DTD will probably be even less frequent that those from the MK.

Isn't there a phone near the bus stops to use if you need a bus and there isn't one? Or did I dream that?

I think the Original poster is getting her cruise transport from the Dolphin and needs to get back to pop from the MK in order to get her luggage and go to the dolphin to get the bus to the Port. I don't know if you would have any more luck going from DTD to POP as you would going from MK to POP as usually at opening the buses don't always go back to the same resort they came from.

In my experience the transportation to and from DTD is the longest and worst transportation on property. I think you would end up waiting MUCH longer if you used that as a hub.

If you really want to maximize your time at MK I second the taxi suggestion - it would be easy and completely reliable.

Ahhh....thanks, now I get it. NO way would I go to DTD from the CR in order to get to POP...way too much time. I would leave MK at least an hour before I wanted to be at POP..that leaves you time to get the bus, get to POP and then cab it over to the S/D...maybe leave a bit more time, just in case. I figure that even 90 mins in the park on that last day is going to be good...why try for 3 hrs??? That's just adding stress, and that's no way to start your cruise.

I would check out early, take a taxi to the Dolphin, and have the bellman hold your luggage. Then take the bus to and from MK (or honestly, it's just a few dollars and you only have a short time, so I would take a taxi to and from the MK, just not going back to the Pop at all).

I agree - if you are going to Downtown Disney to eat or shop, DO NOT use their busses! We almost missed a flight waiting for a bus to the Boardwalk. Over an hour!!! I was about to get a taxi, but kept thinking one would be along soon. Ugh!

Excellent suggestion!!!! Great idea about moving your bags to the Dolphin. A cab will be less than $10, then a tip of about $1 per bag at the Dolphin. You can head to MK for a few hours and just head back to the Dolphin and forget about going to POP.
