Packing Hand Sanitizer

Normally I'm not the type of person to carry around hand sanitizer with me, but I feel like I must take it along this year. Do I pack it in my toiletries bag or my medicine bag? If I pack it in my medicine bag do I need a note from my doctor saying that I need to be able to carry it because of a weakened immune system? I don't want to be forced to have to throw it away.

Or do I just ship it down to myself and be done with it?

Are you checking luggage? If so, you can put a full size bottle in that bag. In your carryon bag, you can put one of the smaller, travel sized containers in your 3-1-1 baggie.

This is what I do...the larger one I keep at the hotel for refills. I keep the small one in my pocket.

Just grab one of those travel size ones at Walmart...that's 3 oz or less and you can carry that on. Then put a bigger one in your luggage or something...or take 3 of them if you're carrying on...or just buy some when you get down there...

It will be a carry-on, sorry. I was afraid it had to go in the 3-1-1. I was hoping I could get by with it in my medicine bag. ;)

I take them in my zip lock 311 bag. I throw a couple in my husbands' bag too. Everyone in your traveling party can have a 311 bag.

Yeah, we fill those bags full too. Thanks!

My daughter, son in law, 3yr old grand daughter and myself all had 2 oz bottles of hand sanitizers in our 3-1-1 bag and I had an 8oz one in my checked bag in case we need to refill the smaller bottles while we were at WDW.

I have switched from liquids to wipe-type items for a lot of products because I travel carry-on only so often. I bring cold medication in tongue strips, I use bar shampoo instead of liquid, and wipes are great for hand sanitizer, eyeglass cleaners, spot remover, etc. Anything I can take that can remain OUT of a 3-1-1 bag works for me.

Taking needed liquids in a "wipe" form is BRILLIANT, that displaces *so* much of the needed space in the 311 bag into your carry-on. Thanks to Green Tea and ExPirateShopGirl for mentioning this.

OT to this thread but another thing we like to take is Pepto-Bismol chewable tablets, those things are life-savers and they're easy to transport.

And while I'm on the subject of the 311 bags(small vent ahead)...
why do anti-perspirant/deodorant makers make their "carry-on size!" products so huge? My teeny-tiny travel-size finally bit the dust so I bought a new one and it is HUGE in that quart bag! (I didn't realize how HUGE it really was until I went to pack and then it was too late). AND the man's travel-size deodorant is so much smaller than the woman's, the makers have decided to make the cap on the women's stuff much bigger...WHY? DO women NEED more wasted space for a stupid deodorant cap?!?...what's up with that? Most men have space left over and most women have their 311 bag packed to the gills!

why would a stick deoderant need to be in a 311 bag? I need to know:)

You're probably right, it's just that sometimes i've run into TSA agents who interpret the 311 rules a tad capriciously...once-burned, twice-shy and all that. Soooooo...sitck deodorants are ok eh? Off to get a print-out of the posted rules at the TSA website to have in my carry-on :teeth: .

Actually, I just went over to the TSA website and passengers have reported that apparently different TSOs have interpreted the liquids/gels/aerosols 311 rules in varying ways. This TSA Blog (http://www.tsa.gov/blog/2008/11/easy-as-pie.html) started in 2008 but with updated posts this year shows travelers have different experiences with stick deodorant in their carry-ons. I did poke around the TSA website and found a clarification from 2006 (http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2006/press_release_08132006.shtm) stating that lipsticks are allowed to be out of the 311 bag, so a stick deodorant should not be a problem...

I'm relieved to know that pies are ok. Most of the time. But then they might need that dreaded "additional screening" :rolleyes1...

I've wondered too about the stick deodorant and why it needs to be in there. Hmmm, we just might try to leave it out. We will see. But we do have an advantage this year as our 2 nephews are going along. SO, this means we have 2 additional 311 bags and of course they don't need all that stuff we adults do.

Last year I bought little bottles of face lotion at Sally's Beauty Supply for 99 cents each which ended up being WAY more than 1/2 off the original price of this lotion. Anyway, it was so easy to slip these little bottles into the 311 bags.

We don't check any bags on our way down. On the way home we might, but not on the way down. We don't know for certain yet if anyone in our party is driving down. If they do drive we can send lots of stuff with them. We may do that for water and stuff so that we don't have to stop at the store.

ok...good to know,as we're carrying on,and I bought us each a mini deo for our bags.....
