Flights to MCO from Scotland?

Hi everyone

Anyone have any idea of which airlines go direct or have a change in London that are reasonably priced? Been searching the internet, but to no avail as of yet. The cheepy airlines like globespan only fly to Sanford and not MCO

any input greatly recieved. Thanks.

Hiya

BA fly via Gatwick but can be expensive
Virgin offer some connections if you choose the flight connector link on thier website
Have flown with them both and they are good flights with no major hassles.

Have you thought about Continental who fly via Newark from both Edinburgh and Glasgow to MCO - we have used them twice now (and again in Dec) and they are our preferred choice. The change in newark is fine (allow at least 23 hrs connection time)

If you let me know your dates i will have a hunt through the sites I use and see what I can find

Hi. We're seasoned flyers from Glasgow and have flown with BA (via London), USAirlines (Glasgow to Philadelphia in the summer and via London after October), Delta/NorthWest Airlines (via Heathrow then Atlanta/Detroit or Minneapolis - done them all!), United Airlines (Heathrow Washington Dulles), KLM (Amsterdam then Delta to Detroit) and for the first time next Easter KLM (Amsterdam then Martinair to MCO) so there are quite a few options out there if you're happy to have changes. We're quite happy with that, but it doesn't suit everyone. Good luck!

Can someone tell me more or less what time the Continental flights leave Glasgow/Edinburgh.

I am determined to be brave and do a DIY next time (I always chicken out - and pay for it!)

I basically wanted someone to walk me through the process with Continental. I figured if I fly from Glasgow to Manchester (as usual) and from MAN to MCO, there is no difference to flying to Newark for the change.

Ditto for anyone who can give me info on KLM route and times. I LOVE KLM and if I have to kick about an airport for a few hours anywhere in the world, Amsterdam is my no. 1 choice. They only fly this route in certain months though and my dates have never coincided. Who is Martinair?

You guys are going to get fed up with me and all my questions.

When I fly with Continental in May my times are as folowing:

Depart Glasgow 9am
Arrive Newark 11.30am (local time)
Depart Newark 1.30pm (I chose this connection as, hopefully we make it, but if we don't there was several other connecting flights after so hopefully wouldn't have any problems being put on another flight!)
Arrive Orlando 4.13pm

Depart Orlando 8am
Arrive Newark 10.38am
Depart Newark 7.35pm (there was earlier times available but we plan to spend the day in New York for a quick whiz round, I've been before but BF hasn't so it'll be a whistlestop tour!)
Arrive Glasgow 7.30am next day

we flew Continental in May, and are doing it all again in december.....
The timings are very similar to scottishgirl's but we are coming back from Tampa

when you arrive in newark you have to go through immigration then collect your bags to then drop off for the next leg of the flight - its not as bad as it sounds - each time it has taken us around 45 mins to clear immigration and collect/drop the bags .....we allow 3 hrs just to be on the safe side.........but have never had any hassles

That's a great price! The best I've found so far is £1400 ish for 2 adults. The dates are for August next year.

I think Continental is going to win this one. Do they fly daily? That would give the advantage of having a tailor made holiday, i.e. not confined to 7, 14 or 21 days exactly as we are with Virgin from Glasgow - oh, and having about 4 dates to choose from through the year!!! Also, when you check in on your internal flight from MCO to Newark, do they honour your baggage allowance for the international flight and has anyone ever had any hassles with this? Baggage is a huge concern for me. I am one of THOSE people who takes empty cases inside cases and comes back attracting kind, sympathetic people who wonder where the "rest of my party" is, assuming that there must be others with me, considering all the bags I am struggling with ....

As long as I can avoid Philadelphia .... Long story ... invoved a forklift (I assume that is what went right through the suitcase) and uncomfortably familiar looking underwear randomly strewn across the carousel .......! I say no more!

That's a great price! The best I've found so far is £1400 ish for 2 adults. The dates are for August next year.

Don't feel pressurised into booking at those prices. Be patient and check sites such as netflights.com (there are others) every few days and eventually your patience will be rewarded. It takes courage because we know how desperate we are to put the first brick in place for that Disney holiday but we have never been sorry to have waited with flights eventually coming in around the £350 - £450 mark depending on your nerve. DW is the coolest of all of us and has frequently managed to get flights under £350. Don't expect that price at peak times but you should still manage under £500 I would say. We have never paid more, including flights for Christmas and Easter.

Are you not able to check your bags straight through from Glasgow/Edinburgh straight to MCO? Who do you fly with on the domestic connection from Newark? I did warn you in my earlier post about all my questions ....

you do check your bags straight through from glasgow/edinburgh to MCO...
they are ticketed to MCO...
HOWEVER, you have to collect them in newark to clear customs, then you give them right back to the airline....not checking them in, just handing them back after you've cleared customs...they are already tagged through to MCO...

wherever you enter the US, you must clear immigration and customs at that point...
but then when you get to MCO, you will enter it as a domestic traveler..you will not have to go through immigration and customs there...

it's really not bad at all....

Yup you will get the baggage allowance! All flights are with Continental and on 1 ticket therefore there is no problems with baggage allowance

I booked my flights in July (for May) at the £347pp price, and now these flights have went up by arounmd £120pp! Just keep searching! At the time BA and Virgin were having sales and I think Continental were having an unannounced sale to kind of match Virgin & BA but not calling it a sale as such!

Pretty sure it's daily as well as I'm pretty sure Continental fly daily to NY from Glasgow/Edinburgh and so it would just be the connecting flight to MCO which I'm sure will run daily as well.

As well, you can add on multi-stop destinations with Continental as well, if I'm honest if we'd really thought about it we should have added 2/3 nights on in NY at the beginning of our holiday but didn't. Wishing we had now and I doubt it's possible to change!!

Thanks ScottishGirl. Where do you usually check out the deals? Do you book online or through a TA? The more I think about it the more I realise I have always worried for nothing about the connections. We do it in England anyway and as you guys have said, the advantage is getting to MCO and being ready to go much earlier.

The baggage allowance was the deciding factor for me. I always upgrade, but only at the desk and in the event of no upgrades being available on the day, i would have to pay for extra baggage, but not have the better seats to go with it!

We have already booked with Virgin (the whole flight inc package through Disney UK) for October next year. I am still considering the idea of cancelling the flights with Virgin and keeping the accommodation/ticket/DDP part of the package and buying my own flights. We got a fairly good deal as far as packages go, I think, but since I booked it in May (only way to get a Glasgow departure) I have had time to churn things over and have a bit more faith in my ability to manage the travelling. I paid £3,280.00 for me and DD(7) for 14 nights at the POFQ, 14 day ultimate tix, free QSDP and direct return from Glasgow to MCO and back. The Glasgow flights sups were £120 each, but my itinerary doesn't break down what they charged for the flights separately. All I know is that DD was charged exactly the same as me for the whole package deal as I am "under occupying". I howled buckets about it the first time feeling really hard done by, but I am used to it now and that is just the way it is.

I used to travel alone all the time - a bit of an adventurous nutter - then I had DD, hubby left and suddenly I became all cautious. But now I am thinking, I do it anyway, just on a different route and I am more than capable so why not? Sorry getting off track here.

Are there later departures on the return from MCO to Newark? We usually fly out in the evening giving us our last day as a full day. I would worry about such an early morning check in and oversleeping and I have a habit of taking all my work holidays and using them, i.e. coming back the day before I go back to work! I go without loads of things for our trips because that is something DD and I will allways have, but if I can save a little here and there it would be an added bonus. Please feel free to shut me up at any point

There was quite alot of choice for my connections, there was definitely later flights I'm sure. Like I said, we chose early morning as we'd quite like a quick day around New York

I was/am a little worried about the connection as well being in the US, but the more I thought about it I flew down to Heathrow (from Glasgow) and onward to Los Angeles last year, and on the way back did Vegas-San Fran-Heathrow-Glasgow as connections and had no problems whatsoever so I don't know why I'm worried!

Like I said, I made sure not to pick connections that were the last flight of the day, each of our connections has a few flights later on that if the worst comes to the worst I'm sure we could get on at least 1 flight!

I certainly admire you doing it on your own with your daughter! This is my first time to the US just me and the boyfriend (I've been to Florida, New York, LA & Vegas before but my parents were there as well), and he's not very "well travelled" so it's me that has to do all the hard stuff, lol. I too had a nightmare trying to find flights from Glasgow, I found there was virtually no information regarding flights from Glasgow! It took me long enough to work out that Virgin only flew at peak times!

Thanks for all that info. You made such a good point that makes me feel even more confident. HEATHROW!!! How many times have I done that not just on my own, but several alone with DD as a tiny baby (first on only a month old).

I have no sense of direction, but I am not shy and I call it "part of my charm" (sounds good). DD has got used to it and while I was dithering about trying to get oriented at MCO, she stopped a guy and said "Excuse me, where is Thomas Cook? My mum said she could get lost in a paper bag!" Er, she wasn't lying, but once I have navigated something once, I have it nailed. I just struggle with a map (unless I am going north only, hence never needing to walk/travel upside down...)

Hmm, maybe I just started planning this one prematurely and that is why I am looking to make changes to mix things up a bit. There is an 18 month gap between our last trip and the next and I'm not used to having SO long to plan.

I also wondered why you didn't overnight in New York, but you know what, you could do it next time! DD is not ready for a full on shopping trip/New York stint just yet, but when she is ready it is a DEFINITE.

Yeah well one thing about Continental is they don't actually charge you any extra if you want to take your connecting flight a few days later than your first flight!

And at least you've got your original plan and want to alter! BF and I can't even decide on accomodation!! Although he's a typical guy and it's all up to me of course
