We have a magical grand gathering planned and want to carpool in a large van; most likely a 12 passenger. Does anyone know of a car rental place that rents them? We have 6 in our family and 4 in other family.

Two min-vans (or full size cars) will probably be cheaper. Your personal auto policy and credit card coverage probably excludes that vehicle class.

Alamo rents large vans.

Almost all of the major rental agencies offer full size vans that fit 12 passengers.

Do book early as these type of vehicles can sell out. Plus, with certain agencies and reservations you may be required to make a guaranteed reservation; this means you have to provide your credit card details and are required to cancel 24 hours in advance if you are not going to use the vehicle or be charged a cancellation fee ($50-$100).

In addition make sure your insurance covers you for the larger vehicle.

You can find one for $314 per week plus taxes and fees here:

It may be more expensive during holiday periods.

cool a Magial greatting I hade one 2yr ago I rented form national.
book early and save ! have a awesome trip

I have called a few places locally here and if they have a 12 passenger van it is outrageous! We live in rural upstate NY and the minimum of about 150 a day! :scared1: We did find one for about 700 total, it is small company ( my mom actually use to work there) my only problem is they are higher mileage vans. Not sure I want to make a 2000 mile round trip in high mileage van! And because they are small not sure what they could do if we broke down in route? Anybody got ideas or opinions?

I was going to use FL Van rentals. They seemed to be the cheapest. Also, they bring the van to the airport for you. Other places I looked at you would have to take a shuttle to their location. Their website is:

You need to make sure your auto policy includes rental coverage for 12 passenger vans. Many don't. Many credit cards don't cover this class of vehicle. You'll like the rates even less if you have to pay for insurance.

Unlimited mileage is intended for normal, local driving. It's possible the rate you've been quoed only include 100-150 miles per day. It's also possible the fine print says you're not allowed to take the car out of your state (or a contiguous state). Some agencies require renters at airport locations have a R/T airline ticket.

You don't want to rent a high mileage van. The rental agencies need to charge enough for your 2000 miles so they can sell the van before the miles get to high.

The prices you're quoted seem about right. The company with a high mileage van doesn't care about your 2000 miles but agencies renting low mileage vans need to be paid for your miles

I'd go with 2 cars or 2 mini-vans. Alternately price what it would cost to fly and rent one (or two) vehicles at MCO. Compare that with the cost to rent the 15 passenger van at home. Add in the $$$ for fuel, tolls food on the road etc. See which makes the most sense.

Your are most likely going to have to get a 15 passenger ford or chevy van.

These vans are usually not in the normal rental fleet but the commercial rental fleet and are priced accordingly. We needed to rent some and got them from Enterprise.

When you first posted I thought you just wanted one for local WDW travel. Now that you post that its for a 2000 mile trip I think you are going to have to look into alternative travel like Air or maybe train (including the Autotrain).

These vans are generally used for short shuttle work and don't have many creature comforts like arm rests or bucket seats. Remember these vans are based on full size pickup trucks not cars and drive that way, 2 days down and two days back are going to take a toll.

We cannot fly this trip; we usually do but we are taking all 4 kids (including my DH's children) between airfare, baggage fees, a rental car in WDW is must and parking it is outrageous). We have also taken the autotrain before but that alone is 6 hr drive for us. Plus our minivan is on its lasts legs, and my car is to small, so we would have to rent a car anyways.

We thought that all going with all the adults we could take turns and drive straight through and all the kids are older 10 & up so they can enterain each other. I never thought it would be this hard to find a place that rents them.:headache:

12 passenger vans are speciality items. You may consider the price "outrageous" but compare it with the total cost of airfare, baggage and vehicle rental in Orlando.

Google found this location, but I don't know how much per mile or for insurance

Otherwise call places like budget and enterprise. Try your local Ford dealer and see if they rent 12 passenger vans.

Too bad these people aren't in your area they have exactly what you need.

So maybe you need to look for band van rentals. :confused3

BTW, our company has a few sprinters and they are very nice.

Always interesting when a new poster promotes a company.

OP wants to rent a 12 passenger van in upstate NY and use to drive to WDW (and back home).

Did you even read the OPs posts in this thread?:confused3
