Drive from DTD to Fort Wilderness

We will be having dinner at Hoop De Doo review on Christmas Day. Before dinner, we will be spending the day at DTD.

We will have a car so I am considering driving from DTD to FW. Would it be better (i.e., faster) to drive to FW or should we take the bus from DTD to FW?
If we did drive, how long of a drive would that be (in minutes).

Is it better to drive directly to FW or should we drive to WL and take the bus to FW?

Thanks!

It is not a long drive. You take Buena Vista Dr (in front of DTD) to a right turn on Bonnet Creek Rd (along the side of OKW, POFQ, and POR). Then a left onto Vista and FW is on the right. Depending on lights and traffic 5-10 minutes. You will need to park your car at the entrance to FW and take a bus to the Hoop De Do.

OK. That's not bad.

Another quick question - if we take the bus from the entrance at FW to Pioneer Hall will we pass the campsites and be able to see the Christmas decorations?

Thanks!

You might get some glimpses of a few campsites as you go by but not too many since they are all off the main road on separate loops.

I would definitely drive from DTD to FW if you have a car. If you take the bus you will have to wait for the bus (and DTD buses are notoriously scarce in the late afternoon hours) and then you will get off the bus right by the FW parking lot and have to catch another bus back to Pioneer Hall for the HDD. Like the previous poster said it is a 5 to 10 minute ride from the Marketplace to the parking lot and I would allow 20 minutes or so to get back to Pioneer Hall from the FW parking lot. You can hop on any color of the internal resort shuttles at the parking lot because they all wind up at the stop near Pioneer Hall.

If you really want to do something fun, see if you can reserve a golf cart for the day and then go over early to FW, take the bus back to the bike barn to pick up the cart and drive the family through the campground loops to look at all the decorations, you could then drive the cart right up by Pioneer Hall for dinner and then continue the tour after the HDD. ( We did the golf cart thing once when my kids were middle school age and they thought it was going to be totally lame and it ended up being the highlight of that trip!) When you are through for the night you can drive the cart back to the bike barn, use the key drop and then catch the internal bus back to the parking lot.

Wish I was going to the Hoop De Doo for Christmas!!

Thank you. Sounds like driving is the way to go :thumbsup2

I'm thinking we probably use the internal buses to tour the campsites after dinner and after we watch the Electric Water Parade.

I think you will be glad you drove...but don't count on seeing much in the way of decorations from the bus....none of the buses (internal or otherwise) go through any of the loops and all of the campsites front on the loop roads.

Is there a way for someone not staying at FW to tour the campsites to see the decorations?

Well there is always shoe leather! But other than that bikes (and night time is best for decorations so that kind of rules out bikes) and golf carts are pretty much it unless you are staying there and want to drive around. But you cannot drive into the campground with out a key card for FW.

OK. Thanks!
