Car insurance I'm confused!

It doesn't take much!

Anyway my question, usually I take out the more expensive insurance, but this year, i thought I would save a few pennies and go for the cheaper one.

I'm confused about the fuel, I thought that if you took out the cheaper insurance, you just had to return the car full of fuel, but I'm sure I have read that car operators are asking you to pay for the fuel up front when you pick up the car. This would be in the long run more expensive, as they charge more for the fuel at the desk and use a premium price.

Also does anyone know when dollar prices will be added for next August. I thought I might book asap, considering the price hikes that happened last year, and pay the cancellation fee with usrentacar, in case prices come down.

i alwyas pay for the more expensive insurance as I dont want to worry about the fuel at the airport so cant help sorry

I too am waiting for dollar prices on us rentacar for next sept to get ours booked asap but they seem to be taking ages when all the others are already on there

How long is your trip? whats roughly the difference in All incusive and Gold/Platinum?
All but 1 trip we have prepaid and included tank of gas but next year for 25 nights its going to be a big difference, don't think it will be worth paying it.
The 1 trip we didn't prepay we took it back full and no charge for gas but thats a lot of years ago now, maybe 10 years.

hi Wayne

We're going for 14 nights in August.

For example for a Premium car with Gold insurance, with Budget it's 412 and with Alamo 464

yet with cheaper insurance it's 368 with Budget and 415 with Alamo, so on average around £50.00 cheaper.

For a small SUV with Gold it's 418 and 464 with Gold and with the cheaper insurance its 374 and 384.

All prices quoted were from US rentacar. The prices may have changed a little, as I made a note of these a couple of weeks ago.

A compact 4 door with Gold insurance was 305.00 and 261 with Budget and 290 with Alamo, with the inclusive option

For £50 no choice for me, pay it and no hassle on arrival. Depending on size of tank but usually $40-60 included. To me its worth the £10-20 to take it back empty and know I am not going to be ripped off for a tank of gas.
Over £50 then probably not worth it.

I knew a fellow yorkie would come up with the answer, ta, very much.

Now all I have to decide is which car to have. I was thinking of treating the boys to a 4X4, but at those prices, it looks like it will have to be something a little cheaper, ba humbug!!

That is a good point :thumbsup2
I have been pricing up our 3 week hire. Gold insurance is an extra £84 with Budget through usrentacar :)
