Formal Night and Fairy Wings

I think the wings are a classy add-on accessory to your dress for formal night. And as I and lots of people have said a Disney cruise is the PERFECT place to wear it.

My DS 3 years old sitting with me right now said "Awe, look at the fairy." He thinks the wings are pretty and so do I.

I think that with that dress they look really cute. They aren't so big that they are in the way of anyone either.

If I was looking at you on your cruise I would be thinking, "ooo! Those are cute wings!" and trying to tell my husband who really wouldn't care at all!

Ah thank you to you and your son, you just mad my day!

LOL men are kind of clueless when it come to these things aren't they? ;)
I still remember what my BIL said when I cut my hair and the wife asked him what he thought, he said "It's pretty... and moist"...

She still hasn't let him hear the end of that :rotfl2:

Just being honest here, but I don't think it's a good idea. Sorry :hippie:

If you were my friend, sister, niece, neighbor, etc...I'd tell you that you probably wouldn't like the reaction you might get when people see you in the wings.

I am going to have to vote "no". The wings are not appropriate. Just because this is a Disney cruise, doesn't mean that "formal" night is "costume" night.

Formal

1. being in accordance with the usual requirements, customs, etc.; conventional: to pay one's formal respects.
2. marked by form or ceremony: a formal occasion.
3. designed for wear or use at occasions or events marked by elaborate ceremony or prescribed social observance: The formal attire included tuxedos and full-length gowns.
4. requiring a type of dress suitable for such occasions: a formal dance.
5. observant of conventional requirements of behavior, procedure, etc., as persons; ceremonious.

I wouldn't expect to see a grown woman wearing wings at V&A's, Cali Grill,
or a formal wedding. The cruise ship isn't any different.

I respectfully disagree with this posters opinion. This Cruise Ship "Is" different, it's Disney! Although wearing wings on formal night is NOT for me, I see nothing wrong with someone else wanting to do it. My daughter is going to wear her Tiara with her formal Prom gown she wore at Prom Last May. I see the Tiara on Formal night in the same line of accessories as Wings. If the owner wants to wear it, I don't see anything wrong with that. I do think it would look Weird/Funny if worn at any other Formal event, But Not on Disney. On A Disney Cruise, it's more than fitting.

Yep...wear whatever you want....especially if you don't mend being the center of attention or...maybe that's what you want. Either way, its OK with me! As if you need my or ANYONE's approval.

that's why I'll be wearing my chaps over my tux and my Woody vest and star.....Yahoo! It's Disney! (only kidding so don't flip out folks....:lmao:)

seriously: DO WHATEVER YOU WANT IF IT DOESN'T INFRINGE ON ON OTHER PEOPLE'S ENJOYMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

I can't think of a *more* appropriate place to wear fairy wings with formal wear than on a Disney cruise! :wizard:

Now you're giving me ideas for my formal night....:rotfl:

This was my exact thoughts.

I too say "go for it"!

I would bet that most of the naysayers have not actually sailed on DCL anyway. We're talking about a cruiseline where everyone dresses up as pirates one night on each sailing. To be honest, I'd be unlikely to notice subtle wings like yours.

Why do you care what others think. You obviously want to wear them. Yes, I'd most likely look twice at you because it is odd but do whatever you want to.

Actually, I have sailed DCL. And she isn't talking about wearing wings for Pirate night. She is talking about FORMAL night. Wings are not formal attire. For goodness sake, men wear tuxedos and some women wear gowns. It isn't fairy princess night.

Obviously, wear what you want...but don't be surprised when people think it is weird. Little girl? Okay. Grown woman? Not so cute.

I've sailed DCL too.

I think the wings would be cute on formal night for a 3 year old.

I've sailed DCL 6 times, and I would say "NO" on the wings. I've only seen children in costumes any of the times that I have sailed for formal night. Lots of adults in pirate costume, but as some PP said, formal night and pirate night are very different.

I vote yes! They are not overly gaudy or large and I think they add very nicely to your dress!

(Never been on a DCL cruise - or any cruise for that matter - but where else would be MORE appropriate - even on formal night!)

Beautiful!!!

BTW: which cruise will you be sailing on?? Would love it if you were on the Oct 24th one!! :-)

I think the wings are cute and fun, but Formal Night is not the best night to wear them, especially if you'll be dressing up. I'd say wear the wings on another night, like on BINGO, Gameshow or Karaoke Night...you'll get LOTS of
attention from the CMs and others complimenting you on your wings. Wings and Formal Night just don't go together for a grown woman.

Either way, have a wonderful cruise.:thumbsup2

I looked at this thread when it was brand new (before you posted photos) and pictured very small wings that would not even be noticable from the front. I just now looked again (wondering why on earth it was still going:lmao:--just a cute, subtle accent could not generate so much talk could it?) and was surprised at the size. They actually do protude quite a bit above your shoulders and a fair bit out. The dining rooms on the ship can be quite crowded and you can be pretty darn close to your tablemate at times. I truly think those could poke out enough to make it difficult for your server to reach over, and past to set plates and glasses down, etc. Also, they could make it very hard for those seated next to you to get in and out of their chairs without snagging their own clothes (and being formal night someone may be wearing something with a fairly delicate fabric)--which would be awfully unfair to your tablemates. Honestly if you were seated at my table and I got poked, or had to be very careful not to be poked, by wings I would feel you were being very rude and I would kindly ask you to remove them (and depending on how you reacted to that I may ask to be reseated for the rest of the cruise--like if you refused OR I got the feeling you resented my asking, even if you did take them off). So, from just the logistical standpoint I really think it is not a good idea.

As to my opinion otherwise: I think they are lovely and I can understnad wanting to wear them. IF the logistics were not a detterent (which I think they are--) then I would say absolutely wear them if you want to and you are comfortable enough in your own skin to not caer what other people think. I have a very theatrical streak myself and love to wear different things (I am wearing a shirt from China today for no reason otehr than i felt like it). However, I can really only think of two reasons for you to have asekd about the appropriatness of wearing the wings here: Either, you are just fishing for compliments (and that is NOT the feel I get from your posts at all), or you DO care somewhat about what others think. If it is the second, while I think it is sweet, please do realize that you almost certainly run into some people who will make comments. If that will bother you then I would forgo the wings entirely.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful cruise:hug:
