When you put a CC down for charging, do they authorize an amount or only if used?

Today we did our online check in, i put a cc # down. I noticed they charged $1 to the card, im sure to make sure its good. But im wondering now, when you check in, do they authorize an amount on the card prior to use? We normally dont use a card for charging, we either pay cash or use the card ourselves, not tied to the room.

The reason im concerned is i plan on paying for the DDP with the same card, a debit card linked to my checking account and dont want it authorized and then have no money left. We also have 3 reservations at different resorts for the stay, so i dont want an authorization for each stay, then find out we dont have access to our money since they authorized it 3 times.

No, the only charge is the $1 pending charge. Nothing else is charged or pended to your card until you check out or reach resorts charging limit.

They don't charge anything to the card unless you actually use it for something. They only charge it when you hit your resort charge limit ($500-value, $1000-mods, $1500-deluxes). Then the limit is reset to $0. That has automatically happened to me when I hit the limit on any Disney stay I've had, but I have seen others say they had to go to the resort to have their limit reset. I have never had to do that.

As you've already read, you have nothing to worry about. No authorization, no hold, no charging before you've spent it, etc.

However, I AM concerned about something you wrote, and I highlighted it in red above. WHat do you mean? Is the DDP part of your package reservation? If it is, then you have alrady paid for it. If it's not a part of your package reservation, you are out of luck because the DDP needs to be part of your package reservation at least 5 or 6 or so days before your arrival. It's not something you can add at check-in.

They are staying at 2009 VWL 9/25-9/26, BLT 9/26-9/27, BCV 9/27-10/3 MNSSHP (I assume that is the trip they are talkin about?)) -- if they are staying with points/or cash through DVC we pay at check in, not previous like regular guest going to WDW at regular resorts. So they would be correct in respect for using their CC at check in.

Op Disney simply places the dining plan on your CC at check in so you pay upfront, the CC on the room is done afterward to pay at check out. At least that is how we did it on our last three DVC check ins -- pay for DDP then add any CC to our room if we chose.

However if you are are not booked through DVC (points or cash) you do need to pay for the DDP at the payment due date. Keep in mind if you are DVC you still need to pre-add the DDP 48 hours before arriving minimum.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, we are dvc owners and added the plan on back in february, so we pay when we check in. We have done this previously as well since we are dvc owners.
