Dining Plan with AP discount?

I'm sorry but we have never done the dining plan, and I'm doing research but I have one main question that I haven't found yet. We have an AP and are staying at the GF with an AP rate. Can we add the dining plan?

Yes you can, and you can apply the AP room discount to the same room with the dining plan. The only downside is that in order to add the dining plan, you must convert your reservation to an annual passholder room/dining PACKAGE. This means your reservation will then be subject to the same deposit, change, payment and cancellation policies as all other package reservations. These policies are very different from the policies for room-only reservations, so you should ask for the details if you are not already aware of them.

I've never booked anything other than a room reservation, and I'm thinking about adding a DDP as well. How are the package payment/cancellation/etc. policies different from the regular room policies?

Yes.
Dining plan travel packages are through WDTC.
Room only are not.
There are different deposit requirements, cancellation and payment policies, package requirements etc. Quite a difference really. I would think the boards would have a sticky for this.

In a nutshell, package reservations require a $200 minimum deposit and the balance is due 45 days before arrival. After the 45 day mark there is a cancellation penalty. I think it's $100 but am not certain. Changes made to a package reservation less than 45 days prior to arrival results in a $50 change fee being charged (where the change results in a lower cost for the package - they don't charge it for upgrading).

Room-only reservations require a one-night deposit and are cancellable at any time up to 5 days before arrival without penalty. Cancelling less than 5 days before arrival means the deposit is forfeited. The balance may be paid at check-in.

Hi Guys,
I am doing the dining plan for the first time. So I am doing research on that. If anybody has dining plan with AP can share with us.

Oh, that's interesting! Thanks for the info on the different payment policies. I think that you can add a dining plan up to 72 hours in advance of check-in - it seems like calling 4 days before check-in or so would be the best time to add it in terms of keeping more money in my pocket for the longest amount of time!

Am I understanding this correctly? Are you saying that you can not add DDP to a room only reservation? I am not talking about the free dining. We are going in the Spring. I doubt that free dining will be offered, but we are hoping for a general public room discount for room only reservations. Then we wanted to add DDP to that. Is that not possible?

gssmks- You can add a dining plan to a room only reservation only if you have an annual pass. When you do this though, your room only reservation gets changed to a ticketless package and is subject to the $200 deposit and the total being due 45 days before your arrival date. You can add the dining plan to an annual passholder room only reservation up to 72 hours before you arrive but the balance due would need to be paid in ful right thenl. The only discount you can use for these rooms is an annual passholder room discount and not a general public discount code.

Thanks for the information. We can't do what we planned on doing. One more question......Does everyone in the room have to have an AP?

Just the person making the reservation and checking in will need the annual pass in order to book the annual passholder room rate and add on the dining plan. Everyone staying in the room does not have to have one.

I actually added the dining plan to a room only reservation for my Oct. trip and we do not have an AP. We used the public room only discount then added tickets and dining. I subsequently received a Pin Code for 40% room only discount and applied that to my reservation. I was still able to keep dining plan and tickets. It did change my reservation to a package subject to the $200 deposit/45 day cancellation but you are allowed to add dining to a room only package, at least from my experience.

Your room-only reservation was converted to a package when you added tickets and dining. If you could add dining, you do not have a room-only reservation. The only type of guest who can add dining to a room-only reservation are DVC members staying on points. An AP holder would have been able to convert to a package without buying tickets - that's the only difference.

If you were using a discount that applied only to room-only reservations and could not be applied to a package reservation, you would not have been able to keep that discount and add a dining plan.

There isn't any such thing as a room-only package reservation. There's either the room only reservation with cancellation at 5 days, no penalty, and balance due at check-in, or the package reservation with cancellation penalty after 45 days and balance due at 45 days from arrival.
