Dining plan has me very confused!

I think it's all the planning..trying to find a nice package for my family of 5..so I think I am just getting confused. We were originally going to Disney from Xmas through new years..but decided to change that. Now we are looking at dates that will get us the free dining plan if we choose a WDW resort.

We originally were going to stay offsite. ..Since as a fam of 5..we don't have many choices. We have gotten a quote though at Port Orleans Riverside and i am considering it. We may be cramped though..so it would have to be great deal to steer me away from some of the other places I am considering.

It comes with the free dining plan...So my question is..Is the dining plan worth staying at a Disney Resort? I am very confused on how it works..there is the quick dining plan ..and a regular dining plan..

Thank you sooo much!

We are a family of 5 (me, Dh, DD16, DD15, DGD6). We stayed at POR last Sept. with free dinind and we will be staying there in Dec. with Free dining. We spend so little time in the room that we do fine.

The Quick Service Plan is basically fast food (counter) where the regular plan give you one sit down meal and one fast food meal.

Happy planning.

There are several "perks" to staying on-site. Being able to get any of the dining plans (either free or purchased) is one of them. EMH is another, as is the simple closeness to the parks. But you do pay for the privilege, compared to off-site costs.

The POR rooms are not large, but if you're not planning on hanging out in the room, no big deal, right? Another option might be to book two (adjoining) rooms at a value resort, if you'd like a little more space. The downside to that is that the more recent free dining offers only include QSDP at the value resorts, while you'd get the basic DDP at moderates and deluxes.

Port Orleans would be a moderate right? So the "free" dining plan would be the regular one? Basically I got a quote that has me for 7 nights at the Por , standard view, 4 day myw base tickets with "free basic dining plan" for $2436. I don't know what the free basic dining plan is?

Do you think this is worth doing with the dining plan? I am trying to figure out if I should just stay off site and wing the food .I definitely can find a hotel offsite with cheaper rates..some for 79-89 per night with some specials..or even a condo with a good rate..and then buy the tickets separately . Also, pay for my meals as I go...

At POR the Free Dining Plan is the regular plan. The value will depend on the ages of the people in your group and your eating styles. For us it is a good deal. And like Faldred said, staying onsite has it's perks.

If there will be 2 adults and 3 children age 3-9, then the free dining that disney is offering you would save you $120 a day. Would you save over $840 staying at an offsite hotel? Then you would also have to buy food. I would stay at disney and take them up on the free dining. If your kids are older than 9, then it is a huge savings!

You may also want to check out Ft Wilderness - we are a family of 5 and are staying in the cabins with free dining from 11/28-12/5

Also, if you want to be in WDW for Christmas, you can still get FD if you check in by Dec 17th - you can get up to 14 days of FD
