Has anyone ever done this shore excursion? I really want to go to the waterpark, it sounds awesome, but it seems pricey ($160/person) Is it worth the $$$?

Actually, Jenny, you do have a couple of other options, from what I have read on the boards. You could book a room at the Atlantis resort, or the neighboring Comfort Suites, which has the waterpark privileges. Currently, for a Monday in August, they are $260 and $251 respectively. I believe that it covers 4 tickets. So, if you have more than that, you may have to book a second room at CS or Suite at the Atlantis resort.

If you have 4 in your party, it has the potential to save you up to $400 bucks! Of course you would be responsible for your own transportation.

Not sure if they have day rates or not.

We booked a room at the CS last summer and did this. I estimated that we probably saved close to $300 for the 3 of us. Watch the CS rates - they fluctuate a lot and you might be able to get a room for $150 or so. You get full Atlantis access that way. You just have to take a taxi ($4 pp each way). Note that food at Atlantis is EXPENSIVE and they do not take cash (3 hotdogs and 3 Gatorades was $33).

Thanks for the tips! I'll have to look into that as the cruise gets closer. It's just two of us and we're going in September so it may actually be cheaper then. Right now I think Comfort Suites is at $236, which is still cheaper than what Disney is charging. Just a question, what about check out? Or does the hotel know exactly what people are doing and you don't have to worry about that?

They don't take cash?? Why??

They "know" what you're doing so just go to the desk and check in, they'll give you arm bands that get you into Atlantis. Just walk across the street and viola your in! For much less $$$$:cheer2: Do yourself a favor when you go across the street and enter Atlantis you'll be on the "cheaper" end of Atlantis WALK THROUGH THE HOTEL TO THE OTHER END! Then go outside to get your towels....you'll save time wandering through the pools and pathways which get frustrating to get to the slides and cool pools.::yes::

I told them I wanted to check in and check out at the same time. I didn't want to leave them with the impression that the room was to be used (or leave it by chance to have an "open" room for charges).

If you are interested, book the room now. If it goes up, you will be kicking yourself. You can always cancel without penalty (I cancelled twice - once for a lower rate and once because the LPGA rate was even lower).

Also, there are charges in addition to the quoted rate. I don't have my receipt, but it was like $30 for a family of 4. At that rate, DCL might be better (which includes transportation and a light lunch).

One other option that you have that people on our last cruise did was to split a room thru 2 families. The maximum people allowed in a room is 4 so if there is a family with 2 or more than 4 you could get with them on your meet thread and split the cost of the room. One note is that if you book the room, you might want to book for 4 people. They will only give you the amount of wrist bands as what is on the receipt.

Hope this helps. By the way, we loved that place and the water slides!

Some other things to consider.

Since you said it's only the two of you. The Disney price, I believe includes a water taxi to and from Atlantis. I think this also includes a lunch. So, for the two of you the cost could be cheaper to go through Disney.

Without Disney, you'll need a taxi at $4-5 each for one way and a toll of a $1.00. Lunch expense, too.

At Comfort Suites there are room charges. $12.00 person and taxes. If you split with another couple. There is a charge of $40.00 per adult after the first two. Then again the taxes and charges.

For my family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Comfort Suites was the cheaper route. Disney charges my son an adult rate wheras CS doesn't do this.

So far we got a room for $225.00 + any additional charges. It still saves us at least $400.00.

That's true. Everything is included with Disney so unless the room rate drops drastically, we wouldn't be saving much, if anything at all. It makes much more sense to do that when there are more people involved!

Comfort Suites also gives a AAA rate to help reduce the cost a bit.

Yup, I checked. I actually work for AAA :) It's still $285 with taxes, so paying for transportation and then lunch would run me almost the same price as if I went through Disney.

Another options is that Atlantis offers a day pass. It is $105/adult and $75/child. According to the reservation agent I spoke with, it is sold in the casino. My wife refuses to try the CS option, so we will be doing this instead. We plan to take a water taxi ($6 pp/rt) and buy our day passes there.

Here's a link to read more about it:

They only have so many day passes to give out for the day and it is based on the occupancy rate (according to someone at Atlantis I talked to). If you are not the first ship in port that day or they don't have many to give out, be prepared not to go. You definately take a chance if you do the day pass thing.

My 5 year old DD and I plan to do this, and my parents (65-70 yo) will be will us. Will they enjoy Aquaadventure? What is there for them to do?

We saw seniors enjoying the lazy river - but each senior is different. Be warned there is a portion where it has pretty large waves to get you moving and a conveyor belt part they need to maneuver onto. It is a great time though. There are pools and a lagoon to snorkel at as well as the beach.

www.atlantis.com go to "water" and it will show you the different rides.

we had a blast when we went in Feb. The lazy river can be a little rough, be sure to stay away from the stone sides. My 13 you scraped his back up big time on it and my 9 yo hurt his toe pretty bad at the end of one of the slides coming down into the river.

On the slides keep your butt & toes UP! You should be fine.

It is a beautiful park with amazing slides. We were so glad we did it, but we're not going back on our bb. It's expensive and we want to try something else.

Well, the Aquaventure Park is a water park so there are body slides and tube slides...they should be fine on the tube slides & "lazy" river (which isn't so lazy) but they may want to evaluate the body slides depending on their level of activity. Personally, the older I get the more I do not like the body slides but I still love the tube slides! Note also that there are minimum height requirements of 48" on a lot of the slides so your 5 yo may not be tall enough to do everything. There is a kids splash play area tho. I suggest visiting the website & looking it over before you commit to it...just 'cuz it's a lot of money either way you book it.http://www.atlantis.com/water/aquaventure/mayantemple.aspx
