ticket question (Figmentlover...)

I have a question that I can't find an answer for.
My DIL is going to Fl with my grandson and her brother and SIL for the free dining in Aug. She has a voucher for 7 days tickets and they probably will go to the parks all 7 days.
I own at DVC and since she and my grandson live with me they have always gotten a discount on their AP when I showed my DVC membership card and a bill that comes to them at my address. However I can't go with them this trip.
I checked last week when I was at WDW and was told that she can't take my DVC card and get her AP, I have to be with her.
We are planning to go to the parks in December for New Year's Eve. I told her she should buy an extra day on her pass so she can then trade it in toward the AP. I don't think she can trade it in if she has used all the days. I did ask this question to one of the CM's at the ticket booth at MK but she didn't seem to understand what I was asking and didn't ask anyone if they knew. I got frustrated and just walked away.
Can she trade the ticket toward an AP, and if so, how do they know what to charge since it was part of a package?
Thanks to whoever can answer this.(probably Mike)

Unfortunately this won't work for you. Tickets can only be upgraded with 14 days of the ticket's first use. Since the ticket will be used in August and you won't be down there until December that will be well outside of it's upgrade window. (Adding the no expiration option does not increase this window)

To answer your other questions, tickets are upgradable within that 14 day window even if all the days have been used. Also, when you do the upgrade on a used ticket you get the full gate price in credit for the upgrade... it doesn't matter what you paid for the ticket or if it was part of a package.

i have a different question... if someone has a few days left on their no expiration tickets... i believe there are four days... can they trade it into a ten day park hopper???

It won't work to upgrade in December, because you can't make changes like that after 14 days of the ticket's first use.

However, if getting an AP with a start date of her upcoming trip will work, she CAN upgrade that 7 day ticket to an AP, if she does it during the trip. She'll use the ticket at least once, and then upgrade it. The price will be "bridged" to match the current price of that 7 day ticket, and she'll pay the difference between that and the AP she wants. It will expire 365 days after the first day she used the ticket.

You can only ever have a total of 10 days on a ticket. You can't deplete a ticket then add more like that. Now if they have a 6 day ticket and want to increase it to a 10 day ticket while on their trip they can, but it doesn't sound like that is the situation. And they'd have to pay the no expire option on it all. And if the days are leftover from a previous trip, they can't make changes at all if it's beyond the 14 days.
