Newbie to camping with questions

Please helpif you can... I'm new to camping and plan on staying at the Fort sometime within the next few months. I live in florida and not to far from WDW. We go to WDW a lot but have never camped here. We got a good deal on some tents.

Question: I understand with tents no pets unattended (would'nt ever think about doing it anyways) we prob won't go to the parks just hang out around the fort doing all the activities there, but would like to go to the wagon ride and the campfires/movie on the nights we are there. What is the latest we can pick them up? I see that you can have security get your pet for you. I'm wondering if anyone knows how late they will be available. If we pick up our dogs after the kennels closes how will they charge us about overnight stays or just charge us the day fee? We plan on keeping them in there for only a few hours while we do some activities throughout the day.



Question: We have two dogs will they be able to stay in the same cage together, to know they aren't seperated would make me feel better about leaving them there for a few hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There are large kennels available which could accomodate two dogs and frequently do.

Security will come pretty much any time after closing. Be sure you have your paperwork with you or you won't be allowed to take your dogs. There is a courtesy phone next to the kennel door which you can use to contact security. They come pretty quickly. I have not been charged more than the day fee when I had to pick up my dog after hours. They may get a bit upset if you make it a habit, however. There is no problem with the occasional late pick up.

We will be staying 3-4 nights in sept. and will only do this two nights. Only because we will do the wagon ride and then campfire/movie night (unless they allow dogs to the movie night) does anyone know that?

Also is there a list or a sign around the resort where dogs can and can't go? Thanks again for the help!!

Before you get too much further along in your planning, it is my understanding that the current rules prohibit tent campers from having dogs at their sites period. It doesn't matter whether attended or unattended.

This is my understanding also.

No dogs allowed at the movie or anywhere, but dog loops and the dog park.

The "no pets" signs are posted at the entrance to the entire Marina/Settlement and all of the pool/Meadows area, incl. where the movie is held.

As PP noted, the only places they're allowed are in the pet loops and at the dog park. IIRC there are even "no pet" signs posted at the kids' playground right next to the dog park.

Yeah as TCD said, I don't think tent campers are even allowed to check in with pet or have them at the campsite.

They just can't be there if you leave to go to the parks. If anyone else that has camped with a dog please let me know

Let me start by saying that I hope that you do come to the Fort and camp. I am sure that you will love it, like we all do, and look forward to coming back many times.

I think that I have read most of what has been posted on this Camping Board over the past few years, and I can't recall any posts about people tent camping at the Fort with dogs. The rule at the Fort has always been no dogs in tents. Like all of the Fort rules, I have seen people break this one, but I don't think it would be a good way for you to start your camping experiences at the Fort to bring two dogs with you while tent camping.

So, please camp, but if you are tenting, leave the dogs at home.

Yep, ran into the same situation last October. 2 dogs, although well behaved were at a tent site with owners. Even made it into the Comfort Station one morning. Hmmmmm. Like I said, the owners were right with the dogs every time I saw the dogs and they were well behaved, the dogs were too.

I think some folks smuggle their 4 legged friends in. I could care less as long as I don't find any dog mines while walking to the CS at night or have any annoying barking dogs or worse of all, dogs abandoned all day and much of the night. WDW only has the dogs best interest at heart with this rule. You know there's some doorknob out there that wouldn't hesitate to leave a pet all day in a hot tent.

So what's the answer????
