Swivel Wheel Problem May Be Solved

I know we've discussed the swivelwheel behind a 5th wheel a few times and it always comes out the same. I posted on ATV Florida to see if anyone double tows or has a swivel wheel type trailer. A guy posted back saying it's illiegal and the fines are hefty. He quoted his findings based on a link from the FDOT which IMO is the horses mouth. Just out of curiosity I searched their site for swivelwheel and found an interesting link. I'll post it below. The thing that makes me laugh is even they leave a gray area in the paragragh. I thought I'd post it here to see what you guys think. I plan on mounting it with no less than u-bolts which IMO makes it "permanent" as they say. I could still take it off, but I'll leave a gray spot here lol.

Yeah thats why I bought my swivel wheel and took it to the Fort. (Of course you already know this) I bolted my swivel wheel to my 5er and never had a problem. I actually carried a copy of Florida state law with me just in case a cop pulled me over and I needed to educate him.:thumbsup2 I know the day I post mine for sale you will call and say you are coming to Texas.

I'm currently looking for a used 58dw swivelwheel. So if some might know someone please keep me in mind. I realize I can buy one new but I was hoping to pick one up used and save a few dollars.

Our older son who has pulled all types of commercial type trailers pointed out a curious thing to me and he says the in most states you can double pull if you are using a 5th wheel but Not a Bumper pull. He says most look on it as the 18 wheel rigs that pull two trailers.

He stated they never got stopped pulling double trailers with 5th wheels but they have been stopped pulling two with a Bumper rig..

So can your Motorhome-Trailer-Swivelwheel exceed 65' as long as I consider the overall length first?! LOL Why yes, officer, I realize my rig is 90' long, I considered that before I left! Too funny.

:santa:

Mine is the SW 58 but I don't need or use it any more because we bought a bumper pull toy hauler. The sad part is I only used the SW 1 time from Texas to the Fort and back :sad2: and people complain about the coast of renting a cart:confused3. It would have been cheaper to rent a Disney cart then buying the SW and only using it 1 time. Oh well live and learn. Then we decided we needed a way to haul 2 golf carts.(ours and 1 for my parents) Thats where the new trailer came in.

Mr. Shan-Man, I had a dream, you can pull up to 90' if you get oversized permits. I would be glad to be an Escort if someone would pay my way to the Fort..

SC Highway patrol pulls them over alot on I-95. Commercial vehicle laws and personal vehicle laws are very different here in SC.

I was told the SW will not handle our 48V cart because of the weight. My neighbor bought at DW and loves it.

The single wheel model will carry a gas gold cart. Elec. carts need the dual wheel for the extra weight of all the batteries. The only way to do a Elec. cart on a single wheel is remove some batteries and put them else where.

Remind me to put that quote in chapter 9 of our novel Michael. If we had electric carts Michael it wouldn't surprise me what plan we would utilize. I'm hoping to have a plan soon as to which direction I want to take. Can you bring the SW to the fort lol. Anybody from TX coming that could hook a small device on back? I just want to get set up before Halloween to haul the cart to the fort.

Man I have no idea how the word gold got in there that's just nuts. After reading it though and thinking about all we have done to get our gas carts to FW it kind of fits.:confused3

OK I am nuts and I guess I need sleep it was golf cart not gold cart. Man I'm not even blond.:sad2:

Well it did use to have that gold stripe on the side when you had the truck paint scheme on it. It is very sickening to think what we've done to get those carts there. I'm trying to justify either buying the swivelwheel or building the double hitch. I am tired of changing the tires out to get it to fit in the camper plus I can put the bikes and other stuff in there.

We ride our 4 wheelers in Ocala Forest and we used to stay at the primitive campgrounds there when I had the Tailgator. The way things are out there now I just wouldn't trust staying. They've had a lot of hooligans out there commiting crimes. There's a cg a few miles away with hookups and security and it's also gated so not just anybody can drive in. I was thinking we could use the swivel to get the 4 wheelers down to the woods since we can't drive them out of the cg.
