December Weather?

My family and I are considering a week at WDW the first week of December.

Is it warm enough to swim at that time of year?

We don't anticipate going to the parks every day and really would like to spend the afternoons at the pool. If the weather is too risky, we may need to reconsider our traveling dates.

It's unpredictable in my experience. I've been some Decembers where in early December I was wearing a jacket and gloves at night and others where it was very balmy and warm. (We went just before Thanksgiving last year and it was about as cold in Orlando as it was at home in upstate NY! Of course, there were people in the pool swimming even in that cold!)

We went the second week in December last year and it was in the low 80's plenty warm enough to swim. But in December you just never really know. Just for your info. Typhoon Lagoon was closed for maint. I think this is the time of year when they most maint is done.

You can say that again!! We went the end of December through the beginning of January 07-08. When we arrived the weather was in the 80s and we were all in shorts and t-shirts. After the first, Florida growers were worried about a freeze and there are pictures of us in winter garb and hats and gloves were flying off the shelves at WDW! So pack for a little of everything, we were fortunate enough we did!!

It's true that even in early December you can get a chilly spell...BUT in terms of averages, the first week in December is a LOT better than January and even most of February.

The average high on the first of December is 76, the low is 55...not that bad at all.

I've gone many times the first week of December and as the others said, it is unpredictable. One trip was low 80's everyday, another trip never left the low 60's. One time it was a high of 48 the day we arrived. If the highs are below 70, I would definitely bring a heavier jacket, it will get cold at night. One trip I even brought a light winter coat and gloves, was glad to have it. Other trips barely needed a light jacket at night.

Pools are heated so you should be able to swim.

This sounds great. I'm bringing my parents with me and if the weather is cooler, my mom will be thrilled. As long as its warm enough during the daytime to swim at least some of the days, we will be a-okay. We'll just work our park trips around it.

Frankly, walking around the parks on a cool day sounds kinda nice! I've never seen the Disney Christmas, so I'm really looking forward to it.

After you see some of the Christmas stuff you may find yourself spending more time in the parks than you anticipated. If I could only go once a year to WDW it would be the first week of December. You will probably get at least a couple of days warm enough to swim, but bring warm clothes for evenings. I am from Minnesota and so spend lots of time in frigid air, but there is something about the damp cold in Florida that really chills the bones, especially when it is windy.
