Whispering Canyon too far to walk?

Ok. So read all these bad reviews lately on Trails End. I wanted something close to the fort so I booked an ADR for the Whispering Canyon. Is the best way to get there by foot, bus or boat. Our ADR is for 8:00pm.

Also let me know if you like this place or not.

It can be walked...its about a mile or so,but depending on what time of year it is, you may break a pretty good sweat walking there(FL heat can kill ya!!), AND its gonna be pretty dark for a walk back. I believe there is USUALLY a boat from FW to WL, and there is DEFINATELY a bus.

There's a boat that runs the circuit between FW, WL and Contemp. :thumbsup2

I'm more interested in the bad reviews re: Trails End. Could you elaborate?

Trails End...like MANY of the other buffets...quality and selection has really dropped with the current economy. Disney is suffering as well as everyone else and it shows. They are offerring free dining constantly...but the "free dining" aint offering much when so many corners are being cut in the food establishments. Its NOT JUST Trails End, although they seem to have taken a much more noticible hit because they USED to have such a vast variety of killer munchies!

Our family really enjoys Whispering Canyon, but we usually go there for lunch. The "skillet" dinner they offer is a nice variety of BBQ- ribs & chicken with the usual side dishes. It's a noisy, fun meal. There are a lot of threads about it on the restaurant forum, if you want more details. Anyway, what we did this last trip was to get there via MK! Spend as much time there as you please, then hop a boat to WL. Afterwards, a boat to FW is easy. As others have said, the small launch shuttles guests between FW, CR & WL. It was my favorite way to get around WDW. :thumbsup2

Have a great time on your vacation!

Did anyone mention there was a boat ?? :rotfl2:

IF the weather is nice however,,it's a beautiful walk on the path from the Fort to the Lodge, takes bout 20 minutes,,give or take on your stride.

Rog is right on, the walk from the Settlement Depot bus station to Roaring Forks is right at 1.07 miles, so to Whispering Canyon it is probably exactly 1 mile. And Frank is right too, it is a very nice walk if the weather is tolerable. But there is a boat to, I think ;)

:santa:

We ride our bikes there all the time for lunch. It's a quick and beautiful ride. No reason you can't ride there for dinner. We park our bikes at the bike rental around back. We have gone twice for dinner and have really enjoyed the food. Since we don't have kids we ask to sit in the quieter room. You can get there by boat also. We ride our bikes everywhere since we would rather pay for an extra day than rent golf carts.

We ate at both places on our June trip, both were good. The skillet at Whispering Canyon is really good. We ate at Trails End on our last day and everyone in our group loved the selection. Beleive it or not the kids were missing their vegies. The boat is your best bet to get to the lodge. You should be finished eating in time to see the water parade that goes by around 9:45. You can see the parade from the beach at the fort and the at the lodge. You can also see Wishes fireworks from the beach. Wishes starts at 10 and the music is piped in. Check out my daughters travel blog.

I never thought of the water parade. Cool. We have been to the fort twice before and we have never seen the water parade. Great idea. I'm so glad I made those ADR's now. :yay:

Just keep in mind that the trail between WL and FtW is NOT lit at night....bring flashlights! I hear the otters hang out in gangs there at night waiting for innocent passers-by so they can jump them and steal their keys to check their campsites for beer!;)

I have found that the walk to Roaring Forks is too far to do in one stretch, so I walk the mile to Whispering Canyon, nap in the lobby for a half hour, then take on the last .07 miles to Roaring Folks.

I am pretty sure there is a boat from FW to WL.

Since there is not a counter service establishment at FW, they should allow us to take the golf cart to WL for counter service meals.

Anybody tried this?

:lmao: You know, I use 'LOL' a little too liberally, but Jim, my friend, you crack me up! My wife heard me chortling from the other room, immediately surmised I was on the DIS and told me to "get a life"! :goodvibes

So I'm a little anal retentive about distances! But at least that last 400 feet is downhill:thumbsup2
