Shipping stuff home from the resort??

What is the most economical way of doing this?

Here's what I was considering---

Grabbing one of the Priority Mail Flat Rate (if it fits, it ships) boxes and packing it in with my luggage (or picking one up at a local post office at our first stop Ft Launderdale) and bringing along tape. Then filling it and shipping it home from the resort so we will get our goodies within 2 or 3 days of returning.

BUT... does USPS pick up priority packages at WDW resorts? How do I get the postage on the box? Can Guest Services help me print out, or can they issue the USPS postage?

I have heard of people doing this, but never really paid attention to the details because during our first visit as a family (our last in 2005) we drove so if I bought stuff, I just loaded it in the car.

TIA for any help!

ETA: I am staying at POP.

I can't answer your question, but I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. I would like to know if anyone else has done this.

You can prepurchase the postage and print out the shipping label at home, and take that with you as well.

Thank you Katieeldr.

My home printer is broken and I doubt I will be able to replace it before the trip due to saving for the trip. Do you think my local post office would put the postage on the box for me without taking the box from me at that time? Maybe I will take a run by there and ask them.

If I do it that way, does anyone know if the mail carrier at POP will just pick up my package if its already got postage? Do I need to make special arrangements?

Is the USPS the best way to go?

Most likely, the USPS may not do a pick-up at POP (since all WDW mail goes to a centralized address in Lake Buena Vista) -- best to check with Guest Services to see if this is the case.

On the other hand, both FedEx and UPS trucks visit all WDW resorts, Monday-Friday.

That said, you can use FedEx Ground, which is way more economical than the more familiar FedEx Express, pre-print your labels at home, and even schedule your pick-up at POP, in advance.

My experiences with FedEx Ground have been good -- they are less expensive than USPS Priority Mail on many shipments.

Details at the FedEx website.

We have taken our luggage to guest service and mailed them back home several times , so far no problems they usually arrive the day after we return home.. So much easier that flying and paying over weight charges.

Hi all! Thanks for the advice and input. I called the ASK-USPS phone number listed on the usps.com website and was directed to call the local post office that services WDW. I called the branch (with the number ASKUSPS rep gave me) and was told the USPS carrier will NOT go to an individual resort to pick up a package.

So, now I know... maybe I will just pick up a box in Ft Lauderdale and have FedEx Ground get it from POP for me.

Thanks again! :)

I second using Fedex Ground. I use it at work and they've always been great and economical.

Every year I ship down a pretty decent sized box of stuff I dont feel like carrying on the plane (shampoo, beach towels, etc etc) via UPS. In that box, I also toss some more packing tape, a sharpie and a big sheet of thick paper (to cover the UPS label going there)

Then.... on my last day, I pack that box up, address it to me, and bring it to the front desk. They weigh it, and ship it home for me (usually around 25-30 bucks, or so - not bad, IMO)

But I dont ship my goodies. I ship home stinky clothes and pack the good stuff in my bags. :lmao:

I do the same thing and the resort took care of shipping it for me. They billed me $12, which I'm sure is about what it would have cost me if I did it myself.

I was at the Animal Kingdom Park and I going to make a big purchase and the CM told me they could ship it direct from there. I wouldn't have to take it back to the resort. I'm sure they could do this at World of Disney or anywhere else like MouseGears.

Have fun:woohoo:

Which is fine for a single item or purchase, but I believe OP has multiple things going-out...
