WDW Alcohol

We are flying in & for the first time will not have a car. I would love to know how we could get some beer &/or wine in our DVC room. Are there duty free shops in the airport that have good prices? Do we have someone deliver?

Any suggestions?

I don't think you can shop at the duty free shops unless you can show an international airline ticket (I could be wrong tho). At any rate, the DVC resorts have gift/sundry shops attached or nearby where beer and wine are available. Of course it is at a premium. You can check out gardengrocer.com and perhaps peapod.com (?not sure if available in Orlando) to deliver to your room. We usually rent a car and make a pit stop for groceries. The local grocery stores carry beer and wine but not hard alcohol. Maybe somebody else has some better ideas for lower cost?

We always take it with us. Last year, DH carried airline size bottles in his carryon in a baggy. My sister packed full size bottles in her luggage. All arrived safely.

The problem with Garden Grocer or anything similar is if you are ordering alcoholic beverages you must be able to physically accept delivery directly from them; it cannot be left with Bell Services.

We always take it with us. Last year, DH carried airline size bottles in his carryon in a baggy. My sister packed full size bottles in her luggage. All arrived safely.

Perhaps that is what we will do. I was just worried they either wouldn't allow us on the plane with it in our carry on. Isn't there a liquid issue? You know only so large a shampoo, conditioner, etc? I am worried about it in my suitcase b/c if it broke...............................

Pack the box wine in the check luggage. Then there's the Hess station at DTD for the beer.

I've done the mini bottles in the 3-3-1 bag as well. But when I'm going in the parks all day, I suck it up and pay for a drink with dinner. At least it's cheaper than getting a drink in downtown NYC.

Does Hess have a good variety? We are not bud drinkers, more like Sam Adams & Sierra Nevada.

We will be staying at AKV & BCV. I remember when we stayed at AKL the beer at Mara was more expensive then the same beer they sold in their gift shop.

Wegoshop will buy anything that you need from any store you would like. It's worth it to give Marge a call to see how she can help you.

Also... since you will be in a DVC resort, (depending on if you have a studio or bigger) you will probably have a full sized fridge. You may also want her to pick up bottled water or sodas and even munchies to snack on. Just some ideas.

For us, for the few things we buy down at the Screen Door, by the time we pay the delivery fee for garden grocer or wegoshop, we are better off with just picking it up at the Screen Door. We used one of the two services last time when we were ten people, two of them little kids, and so needed more milk, etc. than we'd normally get - but what we've discovered is that most groceries we buy/bring at Disney aren't used. So we are either packing them up to take home, or leaving them behind.

With airline baggage restrictions, we usually keep our bags extra light - I'm not comfortable packing liquids in my bags. So the groceries we pack in are a small jar of peanut butter, jam, sugar, salt, coffee and cereal. We buy bread, milk, eggs, two liters of Coke and a bottle of something at the Screen Door.

That's who we use, and we've always been pleased with her service. The delivery fee is so reasonable that even on a 6 pack it would make sense, if I'm remembering the food court beer prices correctly. We always order beer, sometimes a bottle of wine (unless we're going during F&W), and Mt Dew for my caffeine fix (Disney's only failing in my book is that they're a Coke place ).

This is not true(at least it wasn't in Frebruary), I faxed them over a copy of my ID with my order # listed and then they were able to leave our case of beer with our other stuff with bell services. We loved GG and got milk, beer, water, soda, yogurt and fresh fruit. It is a little higher than you pay at home, but WAY less than normal Disney prices! Our case of Coors Light
cans was @$22, less than a buck a beer.GOOD DEAL!!!

In DH's carryon were the small airine size in the regulation size baggie. We used Magic Express so the full size bottles were in checked bags.

I do like the idea of the box wine in luggage , however, be VERY careful about the weight of your bags. I have myself been stopped and seen others stopped a number of times if your bag is one ounce over the allowed weight...I think it's only 50 lbs right now on most airlines. Since we try to only check 1 bag now with the checked baggage fees, we cram everything in one bag if we can...those boxes of wine can be HEAVY!!!!
